Since time itself began, there were four prominent races. The Beasts, the Humans, the Angels and the Demons.

The Humans at war with the Beasts.

The Angels at war with the Demons.

Was one race better than the other? Was one race inferior to the rest? No one knew. Since the creation of the races, they have always fought. No one side ever gaining an advantage.

Some years were calm, but others filled with chaos. Millions dying for little to no reason.

Each race having its own respective rulers, people with power, and of course, spies.

“Now with the stupid backstory out of the way, let’s get started with a small tale.” An old man with white shining hair was sitting down in a large red chair inside a dark and moldy wooden room.

“Who’s an old man!?” The ancient man complained to no one in particular, perhaps becoming senile in his old age.

“I’m talking to you, you flippant narrator!”

Oh, so it is me you are talking to. How nice to have a conversation with someone so naïve.

“NAÏVE!?”

Tsk, tsk. You know what the doctor said about getting angry.

“I DON’T HAVE A DOCTOR!”

Ah, you’re getting sidetracked like normal, you useless fossil.

“ARGH! I WILL END YOU! *ahem* Anyhow, The story begins a very long time ago, just before a pivotal moment in the wars between the races.

Two people, a male and a female, had met each other on the border between the angel and demon continents. They met while travelling through a rather dangerous section of the forest.

They had decided to travel together as they were heading the same direction. The man had just come from the demon continent, while the female had just come from the angel continent.

“Which town are you headed to?” The man had asked the female.

“I’m going to go towards Dunhelm, but turn east once I get to the Great Mountains.” The woman cautiously told the man her plans. The reason she was being so cautious, was because she was a spy. She was disguised as an angel when she was within the angel continent, but returned to a neutral appearance when she travelled.

“Wow, that’s where I’m headin’ too. Let’s just travel together.” The man was the direct opposite. He was a spy working for the angel continent, but disguised as a demon.

The neutral appearance of the Demons and Angels looked nearly identical, even the trained eye would not be able to see the difference if the person hid themselves well enough.

The neutral appearance resembled that of a Human’s… save for the fact that the average height was three meters tall.

The Angels, when in their true form would have wings that would span from two to four meters. If an Angel has larger wings compared to another Angel, the Angel with larger wings will be more powerful. Also, the more wings an angel has, the more powerful it would be. The weakest angels were two winged angels, while the strongest were ten winged, and yes, they can be used as actual wings.

The Demons, when in their true form would not gain any additional parts like the Angels. Instead, their eyes would turn red, and they will gain red markings on their arms. The markings can go all the way around the arm like rings, or, they can only go part of the way around. The more complete the circle, the more power the Demon will have. The Demons can have anywhere between one and ten red markings on each arm.

Angels are a magically dominant race, and are physically weak, whereas the Demons are a physically strong race with little talent in magic.”

That was a long time describing more things.

“Shut up. It’s been a while since I’ve told a story.”

I guess I will take over from here. You can take a nice long nap to relax those old bones.

“I’m not old!”

Anyways, the two people, a man and a woman, continued to travel together until they both hit the nearest town together.

As the two travelled, they both were attacked by a small wild monster. The man and woman both attacked it at the same time.

Due to never having fought together, the two were extremely uncoordinated. The man and the woman both collided. The woman fell on top of the man, and due to her innate strength as a demon, she was holding him down, and he had no choice but to lay there.

The monster had run away after seeing near death. It wasn’t completely stupid, after all, it was still alive.

“You’re awfully strong for an Angel.” The man said with a weak smile.

“You’re awfully weak for a Demon.” The woman laughed weakly.

They realized that they had both been found out. The female was quick to talk again.

“I hope you know I am going to have to kill you now.”

“I wouldn’t if I were you. Angels have a secret way to find out who killed an angel, and even track the persons’ location for up to seven nights.”

“Oh? Is that really true? How come I have never heard anything about that?”

“That’s because it is something that only the spies and the big wigs know about.”

“That’s some interesting information. Okay, I’ll spare your life in exchange for one more piece of information.”

“You have a deal, now then. Let’s tell you…”

The man and the woman talked for quite a while, but they had stopped exchanging information after threatening each other various times using either magic or pure strength respectively.

The woman suddenly leans on the man as they are sitting down in the middle of the forest still.

“Hey, why’d you give up information so easily for a spy?” The woman asked the man, knowing that most spies would rather die than give up important information.

“I dunno, I guess I thought it would be fun. I’ve been rather bored lately. I was only disguised as a Rank One Demon, so I never really got much to do, other than go out and participate in some minor battles.”

“Ah, I know how you feel. I disguised as a Seedling Angel.”

After this conversation, the two had decided to head their separate ways.

Months passed and the two had met many, many times. After three years had passed, and much information had leaked on both sides, the two had retired from being spies and decided to travel together, despite being from different races.

They had fallen in love long ago, but neither had the courage to tell the other, until one night they were alone, the woman had had enough of their current standstill of a relationship.

“Markas, I love you.” The woman did not hesitate, and had just randomly brought it up in the middle of conversation.

“Um…” The man was at a loss for what to do. He had never expected her to feel that way about him, so he told himself never to fall in love.

However, after thinking about it, he too loved her.

“Emily, I love you too… but what now? We can’t go to the Angel continent, nor can we go to the Demon continent.” The man tried to stress the implications of their relationship.

“The Beast continent. We can go there.”

“Oh yeah.”

The man and the woman smile as they pack their camp.

“Okay, I’m going to interrupt here to do some more explaining.” The old smelling man started to talk once again.

Fine by me, I guess.

“I’ll ignore that comment for now. Okay then, it was a known fact that people from two different races could not have a child together. There were some cases of a child being conceived, but they all died within the womb. Well, there was one exception.

It was a girl that was half beast, half human. She was abandoned at a young age due to her not belonging to a specific race. She could use neither of the race’s special abilities. She was left alone in the middle of nowhere, never to be seen again. Ah, but that is another story for a later date.”

Good, good. May I continue?

“Yes, yes. Go on Mr. Narrator.”

*Sigh*

The two had known about them not being able to have a child, so they may have skipped a few things… anyhow, a child was conceived.

It should be known that Angels were aligned to the light elements, and Demons to the dark elements. If a child was conceived, it would die once the mana within the world was started to be absorbed by the fetus. Light and dark would harshly collide, causing the fetus to die, as it is not strong enough to support the collision.

Months passed as the woman continued to carry the child. It continued to grow, despite their knowledge saying the child would die two months after conceiving the child, it continued to live.

Eighteen months go by, and the child has still not been born. The average carrying time for a child was twelve months for Demons and Angels alike.

The man suggested a caesarean section, to which, the demon woman quickly denied. She had a feeling that the child would die if it was removed now.

Thirty-two months have gone by since the child’s conception. A huge storm was approaching, physically and metaphorically.

Clouds so black that not a single spec of sunlight could get through. It was impossible to tell day from night underneath the large clouds.

At the center of the massive storm were two people. A man and a woman.

At the center of the storm, the clouds had turned red. The man looked up to the clouds silently.

The woman was lying on a bed inside the house they had long ago built. She was breathing heavily and sweating profusely. The child was about to be born.

The man suddenly returns to his true form, and eight winged angel with a wingspan of four meters. He raises both his arms and a small barrier of light surrounds himself and the woman.

Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.

As the barrier completes, the largest bolt of lightning the world has ever seen descends on top of the light barrier.

The man frowns as the woman starts to scream in pain, also releasing her true form. She has eight full red rings along her arms and eyes that shine like rubies. The man sits beside the woman to comfort her, but doesn’t offer to hold her hand because of two reasons, she would instantly crush it into a meaty pulp, and he needs to keep up the light barrier.

Heavy winds and rains start to tear up the house and the landscape within even a ten kilometer radius.

The man stares up at the clouds and thinks to himself, If even the heavens want to stop my child from being born, what kind of future will my child have?

Three days and three nights of endless torment go by. The clouds slowly start to let sunlight through.

All that can be seen for tens of kilometers is charred earth. Nothing living exists in this area any longer. This area will later be known as “Apocalypse Fields” due to the events that occurred within it.

The sounds of a small child crying rings through the tired man’s ears. A smile moves onto his face as he turns to look at his child. The smile is immediately wiped off his face as he looks at the child in astonishment.

The child has a small amount of hair that is blonde on the left and a deep black on the right. It has a small Angel’s wing on its left side, and a semi-circular red ring around its right wrist. Its left eye golden and its right eye a dark red.

“And I will take it from here.” The elderly fart starts to talk once again.

Why do you want to take over?

“You always cry at this section.”

It’s not my fault the onion ninjas make their way into my house during this section!

“Sure, sure. Now then… ah yes, the child.

Three days after the child was born, all the major powers of the four major continents had gone towards the area that had the apocalypse type weather.

The Demon and the Angel leaders were the first to arrive at the scene. Sitting in the middle of Apocalypse Fields was a man and a woman in their true forms, along with a child that had changed to neutral form.

The small child looked the same, except it had no angel wing, and no red ring on its arm. Its eyes however, stayed a dark red color and a golden color.

The Demon leader and the Angel leader could only stare as they arrived and saw the child.

“Ah! What a disgusting child! It has the blood of a dirty demon mixed in it!” The Angel leader shouted as she looked at the child.

“I will ignore the fact you called Demons dirty, but I have no choice but to agree that the child itself is disgusting.” The Demon leader scowled at the Angel leader, but he only sighed after saying what he said.

The two leaders looked at each other and then nodded. They came to a silent agreement, and everyone should be able to guess what the agreement was.

The two leaders were already in their true forms, the Angel leader a ten winged angel with a wingspan of four meters, and the Demon leader with ten red full circles around his arms.

The man and woman with the child were resting due to the massive fatigue of resisting the storm.

The small and young child cried as the two leaders approached at incredible speeds. The two parents were killed instantly.

No chance to defend themselves. No chance to speak. No fancy dying words.

Just death.

The two leaders stared at the child between the bloody piles of mush that its parents had just become, unsure of how to rid of the child.

The Angel leader slit the child’s throat using one of its white feathers, dying it with red.

The Demon leader grabbed the trachea of the infant and ripped it out from its throat.

Silence covers the area, as the child no longer has the vocal cord to cry with. The child closes its eyes silently, not breathing.

Suddenly a man that is roughly half the height of the Angel and Demon leader arrives.

“Ah, you two killed them? Why not let me use them as research? Especially that child. It is the first I’ve heard of a mixed breed surviving.” This was the Human leader.

“It was a blasphemous existence. I will now be taking my leave. The child is dead, and the parents don’t even have a corpse to bury, you may as well return with me.” The Angel leader grabs onto the Human leader as the Human leader just shrugs.

The Demon leader sighs and disappears from where he was standing with a blur.”

*sob*

“What’s wrong Mr. Narrator? The Onion ninjas get you again?”

Shut up!

“Well, I’m going to let you in on a secret. The story doesn’t end there.”

WHAT!? Since when was that a thing? I’m the narrator! I should know everything about this story!

“Oh, were you not told?”

Told what?

“Well, if you weren’t told, I shouldn’t tell you, but let’s continue the story.

But first, a question.

If a child stays in the womb for thirty-two months, it lungs will have developed, and so will have its urge to breathe. Understand that it does not need to breathe due to the fact it is receiving the proper nutrients from the umbilical cord, but the urge to breathe will still exist, as that is nature.

So then, how did the child not die from drowning in the fluid within the womb?

The answer is really simple.

Come on, you know the answer already, don’t you?

Well. This child survived because it didn’t need to breathe. It has no use for the air within the world.

How is that even possible!?

Is a question you may be asking, well let me tell you. The child started to absorb mana at two months like it was supposed to. The area where it started in this child was on the opposite side of the heart, within the right lung. The lung was instantly destroyed, but miraculously, the body stopped absorbing mana, rejecting it as if it was a bad disease.

The body tried to repair the damage to the lung, but soon realized it was futile, somehow, through many different miracles, the body adapted, evolved you could say.

It created an organ that would ‘eat’ mana, and turn it into nutrients. The body then started to absorb mana again, and it consumed it. It would absorb both the light and dark aligned elements, turning them into something the fetus could live off of. In theory, it could have been removed from the womb at that point, and it would have continued to develop the same as if it was in the womb, given the right conditions.

Because the body had ‘eaten’ so much mana, the physical body was resistant enough that it could survive the clashing of the mana.

However, instead of clashing, it stayed in separate halves of the body, and fused at the center of the body, creating an existence that surpasses everything.

Instead of being nullified, they fed off each other’s power and hid the other’s weaknesses, making an intangible element.

Anyhow, back to the child that had its throat cut open.

The Beast leader had finally made his appearance. Despite the incident happening within the beast continent, he was the furthest away.

“Those damned races did it again. They killed it didn’t they?” The Beast leader sighed as he walked up to the scene.

As the Beast leader was about to turn around and leave, the child moved.

The child moved!

It has to be known that the slit was not a small one, one could easily see the vertebrae from the front of the child!

The Beast leader moved towards the child.

The child was moving as if it was still alive, despite the massive cut, there was little blood to be seen.

The Beast leader made a quick decision. It healed the child. It then picked up the child, then disappeared in a blur. The Beast leader went at his full speed back to the capital of the beast continent, with no worries about conserving energy.

“Don’t worry… You’re safe now.” The Beast leader looked down at the small child with a small smile.

The child looked up at the Beast leader and tilted its head slightly, as if understanding the meaning of what he said.

The child now had a large scar along its throat, a scar that would never disappear, for it has an Angel’s touch. Nor will the trachea ever return, for it was gouged out by a Demon.

The child will never speak, well, at least not ever using his mouth.

The Beast leader also had an interesting past… for he fell in love with a human woman. And they had a child that survived… but the child was gone when he returned to the human woman. The woman had also hung herself from the roof of a small house using a rope.

The Beast leader took the child, because it reminded him of the daughter he almost had. He looked at the child with a sad smile on his face. This was because he knew that the child would never be able make a single sound from his mouth, let alone speak.”

*sob*

“Seriously, are you still crying?”

Hey! I’m not crying.

“Fine, whatever. Anyways, the story’s over for now.”

Wait!? That’s it!? What happens after that!?

“Well, this is a true story…”

Really? I though all these stories were made up? But what does that have to do with anything… wait… you don’t mean...

“Most of them are, and so was this one for the longest time… until it actually started to happen.”

Wait, why did they tell this to you and not to me!? I am the ruler of all stories! How could they even think of not telling me!?

“Well, it’s going on right now, if you want to watch it, then do so. However, we were told not to interfere.”

Sweet! Front row seats to the most interesting story I’ve heard in a while!

“Well then. That’s all for now.”

I hope you enjoyed reading. *waves*

“Buh-bye!”
