Ch 1: A Father's Worry - Edited

An older man sits at a high-quality redwood desk, ornate carvings of medieval armies fighting in various forms line the sides. Gemstones and metals are used to accentuate the leaders of the assembled warriors and the great beasts they fight. The man looks out over the city from the glass walls. His hand moves through his greying hair, the light bouncing off a silver ring. His current clothes look pristine although the wrinkled jacket and cluttered desk attest to his prolonged presence in the room. His eyes pass over people going about their morning routines, many coming into the building he watches from.

A woman enters, dressed in casual clothes and carrying a large tablet. She approaches the desk and decisively flicks her screen. Screens integrated into the man's desk light up, displaying timetables, business plans, and employee requests. Taking a stack of papers from the desk along with a few empty coffee cups she begins to speak. “Sir, your afternoon was cleared as you requested however such rescheduling requires us to speed up a few meetings, primarily that of the AR room for the ministry of defense.

Additionally, the CEO of Transcendence decided to remove themselves as they claimed we did not give them the proper respect.” “Thank you, Amelia, and don’t worry about Trans. They are still at least five years from being ready for commercial use; we don’t need to give them any thought. As for the Ministry of Defense, these plans look good. Please ask Justin to check for any security risks in the networking code. I know he has looked at it multiple times, but I have a bad feeling about it.”

“Of course sir, as for this evening are you sure this is the best course of action?”  As she transfers the information for a Raestta Online account to his desk. “No, however, I have not come up with a better idea as of yet. The boy refuses to understand how important allies and friends can be. His talent for business and a general distaste of people has left him Isolated, and I fear the day he finds a rival that equals his skill, worse yet one who exceeds him. Were you able to get the information I requested?” the man looks over the section of DE’s website that discusses the Aspect of Community.

Raestta Online boasts three Aspects, one of which is that of Community. Players will find that everything in the game can be interacted with and just because something seems like an enemy doesn’t mean you can’t gain their allegiance with time. Players are suggested to find allies in the harsh world of Raestta as death is a genuine danger for the unwary adventurer.

We hope that players interact with the numerous factions of our game and wish you the best of luck in finding one that you can join and help. As an additional feature of our Community Aspect players within Raestta will be able to create guilds that can become factions in time. We have a plethora of great content which we encourage players to take advantage of and explore thanks to this Aspect, and we can’t wait to see what kind of world all of you make.

“Yes, sir. Your son has played a few games over the years; however, he often ends up as a leading information broker or managing a massive guild. From our search, it seems he has never worked with a dedicated party or done the challenging content in a game. His normal MO is to hire skilled players to accomplish things for him if his guild can’t do the task itself and often ends up with a build that lends itself to non-combat ventures. Alex’s psychologist agrees that his isolation will cause problems for him in the future. However, he also says that this plan is too complex and he cannot say for certain what kind of effect it will have on him, beneficial or otherwise.”

The man looks up at her sadly, and one can tell he hasn’t been sleeping well recently. “I know this is risky, but I would rather test him and find him lacking than watch him destroy himself. I will not hand this company over to someone that cannot understand when to ask for help or have allies they can turn to in desperate times.”

“Of course sir, Alex, and Vivian will be here after lunch; let’s deal with some of your meetings and such until then.”
