Chapter One

The moon lit the night sky with a luminous glow. No stars could be seen in the park as the city emitted too much light pollution. Nothing but crickets could and the giggle of a woman could be heard as she was being wooed by a gentleman she had met in the bar earlier this evening. The woman was fair with an hourglass figure. Her hair raven black and her eyes a sapphire blue. She wore a black dress that hugged her curves along with the rest of her body. Her hair swayed as the wind gave off a light breeze. She embraced a man with short brown hair; a clean cut. his arms were muscular and his scent made the woman's heart beat intensely. The park had been a well-known site for the young to engage in eachothers animalistic desires. It was rural and secluded this night as they were the only ones there.

Her lips found his and she pressed her body against him. She could feel her blood flowing as excitement entered her veins. This would be her first time. Not that she was saving herself, but she could never work up the nerve to talk to a man and this man was gorgeous. He had even approached her! He chose her! Other men could never seem to make their way to her. Did they find her intimidating? Was she just too beautiful? None of that mattered now! She was finally going to experience her desires tonight! All of her dreams seemed to be unfolding before her. She broke herself away as she tried to undo her top and slide it down to her waist. The man paused, seemingly taking in her imagery as he smirked wickedly. Now her nerves kicked in. The temptation rose, anticipation was now at an all high, and humiliation erupted. Did she repulse him now that her breasts were revealed? Were they not good enough? She broke eye contact. "Do I not excite you anymore? Am I so repulsive?"

He tilted his head with a sign of confusion and caressed his hand along her cheek, pulling her to look at him. "You misread me. I am more excited now than ever before." His hand slid down her cheek along her neck as he pulled her in closer. His lips lightly ran down her neck as he gave her light kisses. Further down her body, his lips found her bosom. He licked her around her nipple, his hands now around her waist. She lightly bit her lips as she closed her eyes in pleasure. Please, have your way with me. She seemed to tremble as the sensation was too much. She wanted him. Now. She ran her fingers through his hair. She heard guys liked that from one of her close friends. A sharp warm sensation grew on her chest. What? Her friend never mentioned this? She opened her eyes and looked down. Her chest was covered in blood! The man looked up with a huge grin. His lips also covered in blood. She began to breathe heavily. She panicked but couldn't seem to scream for help. Her throat constricted and he lunged for her neck, biting through her skin drawing more blood. Her hands lept for his hair and shoulders, trying with all her strength to push him off.

"P...please. St- Stop!" She pleaded in a whisper. She couldn't seem to find her voice. She could feel her life draining. Her strength depleting with every ounce of blood he took. He showed no signs of ending this and her eyes began to close. This can't be how this ends.

Blood! The scent engulfed his nostrils. It was fresh and close. He was too late to save the human, but he could still end this miserable vampires life. Logan stood from his crouch. The vampire was a couple of miles north of him. He closed his eyes as he could feel his blood begin to boil. Tapping into his vampiric DNA, Logan opened his eyes and he began to run. Streets became a blur, yet he could see everything clearly. He zipped through traffic, ensuring he didn't touch anyone. As long as he didn't touch anyone, all the humans would see is a gust of wind. He ran up the stairs of the park and stopped behind some bushes only a hundred feet away from the vampire as he continued to feed upon the woman. He heard the last heartbeat of the woman simultaneously as the vampire lifted himself away, signifying the end.

Logan grabbed his pistols from the holsters on his hips. They were pre-cocked and loaded. The vampire seemed to be too focused on the woman to notice he had arrived, which meant he held the element of surprise. He rushed out, his pistols firing as fast as he could squeeze the trigger. Two shots hit the vampire in the stomach and the right shoulder, but then he realized what was going on and he dodged the rest in a blur, hissing at his attacker. The vampire eyed down Logan as he began to sniff his scent. "You are not human. Yet... You are not a vampire either. Your scent offends me. What are you, vampire hunter?"

This tale has been unlawfully lifted from Royal Road; report any instances of this story if found elsewhere.

Logan didn't give him the satisfaction of an answer. His eyes locked on his target, cold and focused. He hoisted his pistols and reached for his right shoulder, unsheathing the sword.

"Oh, I know who you are, you filthy half-breed! I've heard your stories. My boss will pay me handsomely if I bring him your head."

"Try if you will, but I have already won this fight!" Logan replied. "The question that remains is how long you can hold before I burn your corpse?"

The vampire sneered and he rushed for Logan. Logan dodged left, swinging his diamond blade at his back. Logan made the sword himself. It was designed specifically for vampires as vampire skin is as hard as diamond. The only thing that can cut diamond is diamond. He had long ago tested this theory when he made the blade. Though it usually took a few hits with the blade to skewer a vampire, his theoretics had worked. The vampire hissed after being struck. "You won't win that easily!" He rushed in again, swinging his claws at Logan aimlessly.

"The problem with most of you vampires is you are so confident in your strengths," Logan ducked dodging one of the vampire's strikes and impaling his blade into the vampire's stomach, "that you don't train yourself for when an equal challenges you." Logan slid the blade out. The vampire staggered back. He analyzed the wound and covered it with his hands. Then he noticed, the bullet holes were not healed.

"How?" He asked puzzled. "Why am I not regenerating?" Logan didn't answer. Instead, he reached into a pouch and pulled out a metallic ball with a red button on it. He clicked the button and tossed it between the vampire's feet. The vampire tried to run, but he couldn't seem to move. The ball exploded and engulfed the vampire in flames. He screamed in agony, hissing at Logan. Cursing him. The fire burned hot and lit the whole park. Within minutes, the vampire's body was nothing more than ash.

Hunted by all, accepted by none.  Those words echoed in Logan's mind as he turned his back from his kill.  He began to casually walk down the stairs exiting the park and making his way back to the main street.  It was late now.  The bars were closed and most of traffic seemed to be dying out.  Sure, there was some traffic remaining.  A few cars here and there, but most of the citizens were now asleep.  Logan's eyes felt heavy, but he showed no signs on his face other than the irritation that formed around his eye sockets.  He was disciplined, but he was still part human and required rest.  His muscles were sore from the late night hunting and soon he would have to feed.

He made his way to the parking garage where he parked his truck.  It was old and kind of an eye sore.  Not the ideal vehicle that would be stolen. Even if it was, it could easily be replaced.  It was rusted quite a bit that would scream problems to most bystanders.  He unlocked the doors, opened it and hopped into the truck.  He closed the door and inserted his keys into the ignition, starting her up.  The truck roared initially and calmed down after he let up on the ignition.  He took it out of park and drove to the main street.

Logan ensured to follow the speed limit and traffic laws.  He did not live with society, but he didn't wish to draw attention to himself.  As far as the city was concerned, Logan didn't exist. The drive took an hour and a half, making his way through the city and into the outskirts.  He drove for miles through the dense forest. Logan turned into a dirt road that slowly disappeared and he began driving off road through the woods.  He carefully maneuvered his truck around the trees.  He pulled the truck to a stop and stepped out.  Nothing could be seen or heard for miles but the thick dense woods. He walked fifteen paces away from the truck and pressed his foot purposely on a rock that didn't really stand out.  A metallic click went off and the truck began to descend underground.  Once it was fully submerged, two doors enclosed above it camouflaged in grass and stone. He then clicked on another stone and another set of doors revealed an underground staircase.  Logan began his descent down the stairs.  Upon stepping on the twentieth step, another click arose, closing the opening above him.  When he reached the bottom of the stiarcase, a wall of technological advanced security systems stood in front of him.  He placed his hand on a pad and his eyes in front of a camera.  A few moments passed and a computer beeped.  "Retinal scan accepted." The doors automatically opened.  "Welcome home Logan."
