The night before Tristen's eighth birthday/ Tristen was being put to bed. As Perdita was tucking him into bed, Tristen spoke up hesitantly.

"Ms. Perdita, can I call you 'Mom'?" The question hung in the air. Perdita's eyes softened, and she brushed a strand of hair from his forehead.

"Tristen, you can call me whatever feels right for you. If 'Mom' is what you'd like, then id be honored." Tristen's lips curved into a smile as he nodded.

"Okay, mom."

On the day of his eight birthday, a cloudless sky graced the horizon, promising a day of adventure. Perdita had planned a special trip to the local zoo, an outing that filled Tristen with excitement. They strolled hand in hand through the park laughing and looking at all the exotic animals not knowing the dark turn that was about to happen shortly. As they were leaving, not far from them a bus was having problems with the breaks. Tragedy had struck just outside the Zoo. The bus a come to fast to react, plowing through cars in the parking lot causing chaos. everyone panicking as the bus cam crashing in with debris and metal flying around. The bus had struck a gas tank just beyond the zoo wall. Amidst the chaos, Tristan and Perdita were separated.
