Chapter 11 : The Mountain

Agni recognized the entrance to the cavern. Every detail, from the dark cavern walls to the frozen icicles at the top, looked exactly as he had seen in his dreams. He held up his sword and used its fire to guide his way through the darkness. The walls began to tremble from the intense winds outside.

After walking through, the cavern’s walls began to widen, and the top of the cavern began to heighten further up. After stepping forward, A cold breath suddenly emerged from the shadows before him. Two bright blue eyes looked at him dead on. Agni didn’t hesitate. He slashed upward toward the beast, but it managed to deflect his sword with its thick hands. The beast’s power sent the sword flying up, with Agni barely holding it. He then thrust his hand forward and sent a fireball straight at Kruos. It hit his chest and knocked him down. Agni ran towards it, but the beast swept at his feet and knocked him down. His sword got knocked away, and he was left defenseless. His eyes began to glow bright with fire. He stood his ground against the beast, who began to back away from the heat of his aura.

The rock around him began to melt from the temperature. Agni felt his energy quickly depleting. He quickly looked around to try and find something that would give him more time. The beast began to walk forward slowly, and Agni quickly conjured a fireball and blasted the cavern roof, sending piles of debris that crashed down on top of the monster. After catching his breath, he ran to pick up his sword and continued forward. He realized that Kruos had cut deep into his leg after he had swept him. Despite his bloody leg, he continued running forward, leaving a trail of blood in his path. After running more, he saw a bright purple hue ahead of him. His heart began to race. The cavern opened to a giant space as if the entire mountain was hollowed out to house this part.

Woah, Agni exclaimed at the sight of the grand cave. He suddenly heard a voice in his mind. It was Annie’s, but the endless echo was gone.

“Agni!” She yelled out.

He ran toward the glowing crystal that stood at the other end.

Although his body was in pain, he managed to smile faintly.

“Let’s get you out of here,” he said.

After many continuous strikes with his sword, The crystal began to chip off.

“He’s going to be here soon,” Agni

warned Anemos. He kept striking the crystal until it was full of fragmented shards holding it all together. Before Agni could strike the crystal again, he heard Annie’s warning.

“Behind you!” she yelled out.

Agni quickly turned around and deflected the monster's giant hand away, sending sparks flying out from the blade’s edge. Agni quickly turned back to Anemos and attempted to strike the crystal again, but the beast grabbed him. Agni was sent flying to the other side of the giant cavern. He crashed against the rough wall and fell to the ground. He slowly got up and groaned in pain. The side of his rib had been gashed. Blood began to drip down from his head slowly.

Kruos now stood between Agni and Anemos. He stood tall and roared out in anger.

“COME ON!” Agni yelled out as he raised his sword. “IS THAT ALL YOU GOT!!”

Agni dashed forward and clashed against the beast. He yelled in pain as he channeled more energy into his sword. He tried dodging Kruos to strike the crystal, but the beast quickly caught on. He swiped Agni away from Anemos. Agni fell to the ground again. His sword slid across beside Kruos. He now stood defenseless. The giant monster's sharp teeth were visible as it grinned.

“I can’t defeat him,” He began to realize.

He Stood up and began casting fire throughout his arms. Blood was now covering half his face. He tried stepping forward, but his leg quickly gave away.

His eyes lit with intense fire. He drew all the strength from his body and began casting a fireball. It quickly grew in size and intensity. As it grew stronger, its hue changed from an orange fire to a dark red inferno. Kruos roared in anger and charged. Agni yelled out as all his strength began to give out. He hurled the fireball forward. Kruos dodged the fireball and pinned a weakened Agni to the ground. His vision began to blur out. He looked toward where he had thrown his fireball and softly smiled in relief.

“It worked.” He whispered. “Thank goodness it worked.”
