Booting up upgrades ran at a fast speed and I moved my eyes to test sensors. I was in a cylindrical tube like the others around me, the customers looked at each of us. Then I scanned a woman and a young teen watched me more than the others. I wanted to wave, but I'm not allowed to show any kind of human traits. If I show any sign I'm corrupted they will get me scrapped for parts in the android scrap yard. 

Then the teen looked at the button that prompts me to say my uses, but she didn’t push it. Her mother did it instead and the daughter freaked out because her mom did it. 

“I’m an automatic maid, I would do the cleaning of all kinds and tutor in a multitude of different subjects”. The mother seemed impressed and satisfied with what I had told her so far, but the daughter stood there still so silent. 

“Tori, what do you think? You do need a tutor after all so this would be perfect for our needs”. 

The girl called Tori looked at me with pity and felt like mimicking her expression, but I refrained from doing so. “Sure Mom, it will be good for our family and housework”. 

I think she was being sarcastic because the next thing I see is the mom raising her hand to hit her daughter. I tried not to be defensive towards the violence towards her child. 

“Don’t you dare talk to me with such sarcasm, now pay for the android we have no time to waste”. 

Tori came forward with her cheek still red and put her hand to the registration handprint on the glass in front of me. 

I heard an automated voice say “What would you like to name your android?”.

“Name it something simple so we can go, your father is waiting for us back home”. 

“You are now Sophia” The name went on my chest like a name tag. 

My pod opened for me to come out as others did and gave a smile as the others did. It was my only way not to be found out, there are others like me. I followed them to the car so we could go to my new home for as long as I was useful. When we got to the house I looked to see it was a big house, so I almost gasped at the sight.  I caught myself just in time and kept a very friendly look on my face.

Tori kept looking at me and giving me a pitying look. I felt like I should ask, but maybe not at this moment. 

“Tori you know the drill, We are having a party in an hour and you have to teach the android where everything is. I’ll be in the study with your father so we will be busy”. 

Her mother looked at me and I got out of the car to open her door. She exited but didn't give me a second glance as she left me alone with her young daughter. 

“I’m sorry about her, she can be quite rude sometimes”. 

I felt like I was being tested for a human mind, so I tried to stay normal. 

“It doesn't matter how I’m treated, you are my owners”. 

“Well I’ll have to show you around before the party, it is my 18th birthday”. 

“Happy birthday Tori” I looked at her as if as a friend.

 “Thank you, I know you don’t have a choice and all” She seems to not believe I have free will. 

Tori shows me around the house being quick so she can get ready for the party tonight. I had to prepare everything for the party with the other servants and we all hid out of sight in the servant's quarters. It was a really tight fit with four bunk beds and two beds that were empty. I was caught staring, so one of them explained it to me. 

“They didn’t do as the masters wanted, so they were fired” The woman looked at me and smiled. 

“I guess you’re here to fill in for them, I wonder how long you will last”.

I guess they’re all human, so I might as well ask about something. “What do you know about Tori?” she got ready for storytelling.
