Chapter 6

After about five minutes, Ankoku cleared his throat. Mina glanced over at him, and smiled slightly. After a brief moment of hesitation, he leaned over and planted a small peck on her cheek. She grinned. He wasn't sure why he kept doing these kind of gestures toward her, but he figured that it helped keep him sane.

"Let's get going," Mina suggested brightly. He nodded and grabbed his coat from the chair beside him. Together, they headed out of the house and down the street together. They spent the next few minutes in a comfortable silence before Mina spoke up again.

"What are your plans?" she asked curiously. He shrugged, looking up thoughtfully at the sky.

"I was thinking of spending time with my parents today," he admitted reluctantly. She nodded.

"Okay," she murmured.

"What about you? Anything exciting planned for the day?" He asked. She shrugged.

"Probably."

"What do you mean?"

"Just...nothing important. Do anything you like, alright? Just don't hurt yourself."

"Alright," he replied softly. A comfortable silence fell between the two of them until they arrived at the entrance of the city.

"Thank you for taking me out there," Mina said gratefully.

"Anytime," he responded happily. She leaned forward and placed a chaste kiss on his forehead. He blushed lightly. After a couple of moments she stood up straight, waved goodbye to him and headed toward the direction of the train station. He stared at her retreating form, then returned inside. As soon as he closed the door he felt his mobile phone vibrating in his pocket. He pulled it out and saw a text message from Fumikage.

'Where are you??'

"I'm heading downtown," he answered as he sent back an affirmative response.

"You aren't supposed to have your phone out during work," his boss reminded him.

"It's fine. I won't let it die."

"If I find out that you have let any of those students run wild with your cell phones then you are done with this place," he warned as he walked away.

When he got off the elevator he spotted a certain redhead across the hallway. She was sitting on one of the couches in the reception area talking to someone. It appeared that they weren't paying attention. The girl looked upset, which made him frown. He approached the reception counter with a confused look on his face.

"Can I help you?" the girl behind the counter asked him, sounding bored. He ignored her question.

"Is she okay? I saw her leave earlier and she seemed upset," he inquired worriedly. The receptionist scoffed. "What happened?"

"Nothing much. She just doesn't seem to be enjoying herself," he answered dryly. "I mean, I don't get it, I mean she's a great student and she always comes in looking bright and cheery. Well, except now that you say it."

Ankoku frowned even deeper. Something was definitely wrong.

"Anyway, please take good care of her. There's something not right about her lately. And if you have any idea where I could find her tell me and I'll send her back to class immediately," he instructed. The girl nodded.

"Will do," she replied and continued writing things down on a piece of paper. Before he left she added, "Also, do you realize that if you keep calling every other week, they might end up suspecting you of having some sort of ulterior motive?"

Ankoku frowned. "That's none of their business anyway," he muttered darkly under his breath.
