Introduction

My name is not important. What is of vital importance is the story I bring to you. I stole the following pages from a great library on my home world many thousands of years in the future so I could warn you of your folly. This book is the result of years and years of research by our best historians, and some of the pieces are from primary sources, i.e., journals and letters, of the historical figures themselves. I transcribed their work into my own to make the prose fit a style your mind would understand easier. This is not a slight towards you or your people; my species and I have the advantage of many thousands of years of evolutionary advancement, and we usually write in a style which would be unbecoming to you. If you think otherwise, then look at your own languages now; I argue there are few amongst you who can read in Old English coherently, a system of language in heavy use throughout parts of your world less than a thousand years ago.

Have you ever read your own histories and said to yourself, ‘if only I could go back to this exact moment, then I would do so and so’?  Well, this is my so and so moment. I have decided that this moment in time is the best time for you to hear this history because this is the crux of everything that follows, so please pay attention, and change your ways! The future of your race depends on you…

Prologue

Humanity. Life. Progress. These had all been caught in what seemed a perpetual dark age for eons. There was no written language, barely an oral history and a scarce collective memory of the journey of mankind.  With no foundation to lay its future, civilization had muddled along in an exhaustive, repetitive haze for too long.

Thousands of years in the future, humankind recaptured its lost history. A sage appeared seemingly from thin air to provide purpose again to the human epic. She was known only as Odina, and a devout cult developed around her called the Nova Gnosis. Through her leadership, the world again knew knowledge, innovation, technology, and most importantly, their past.
