Prisoners of Earth Chapter 3: Supplies and A Deal

As Felix started to crawl out of the top of the hole with Thadia on his back, he took a few seconds to look around the area. It’s never too safe to be sorry.

Setting Thadia gently on the ground he collapsed beside her. It was hard work to carry someone up. Relatively easy to go up on your own but Felix had to carry an extra 120-130 pounds of weight. Most people wouldn’t have been able to even carry 50 pounds of weight out of the cavern.

“Thanks for helping me out, I really appreciate it”

Felix rolled on his side to get a good look at Thadia’s beautiful face.

“No problem it’s the least I can do for someone as beautiful as you”

Thadia started to open her mouth to speak but decided against it. If you looked carefully you could see a hint of a blush on her cheeks.

“So how about I make you that crutch and a splint and I can see you on your way”

Said Felix as he got to his feet obviously still exhausted.

Thadia didn’t say anything, but she gave a sharp nod in response.

Looking around Felix didn’t see many usable materials for the things he needed to make, but he needed something so he started to look around. Shifting through various materials he found nothing.

Looking under car parts and sorting through trash piles wasn’t the best option so he decided to bust open some rusty cars and look inside.

The first car he came upon was a rusty F150. At first he tried the door but it was so rusty it didn’t reveal any results whatsoever. Felix started to look around to find something to bash the door in with.

He quickly spotted a bumper that wasn’t that rusty, and made a quick decision to use that.

Walking over and picking it up he surprisingly found it was in better condition than he thought. Almost no rust and the perfect material to destroy rusty metal with.

Walking back to the door of the car, Felix lifted the bumper over his head with both hands, and with a strong constitution swung the bumper towards the door handle. The door handle barely able to withstand the rust of time and disuse, shattered pieces flying all over the ground and all over the seats of the car.

Grasping the bumper he used it to shift the door open through the massive gash in its side.

He hopped through the door hoping for some good materials.

Looking through the front of the car yielded no results except for two double a batteries rusted beyond usage. Looking behind the seats got some better results. Three MREs, a few boards of wood, and a coil of synthetic rope. Felix picked up the boards excitedly but put them down with a disappointed face. The boards had long since been eaten by termites and were worthless. The coil of rope and the MREs fared better and neither were damaged in any way.

Getting out of the pickup Felix started toward another car, this one an old dodge avenger not as rusted as the ford pickup. The door of the car like the pickup was rusted shut so Felix picked up his bumper and swung. Unlike the ford the door wasn’t as badly rusted, and only a big dent appeared on the door.

So Felix did the next thing he could do. He swung at the door handle like a wild animal. The dents getting bigger and bigger until finally the door busted open. The inside of the car didn’t give him much just a can of sweet peas.

That didn’t deter Felix though. He climbed into the back of the car and set the back seats down opening the trunk so he could view inside.

His luck was a lot better. Inside was a box of canned goods, a box of medical supplies, some paint sticks taped to the box, some wooden planks, and some handy man tools, such as a hammer, nails etc. ( AC: What a piece of luck, lol)

Getting out of the car, Felix decided to help Thadia first before he continued his scavenging.

Strutting over to the hole, he found Thadia moaning a bit in pain.

Opening the medical box, he found himself with gauze, painkillers, and alcohol swabs. Even though the medicine was no doubt expired, he gave it to Thadia anyways. I mean if it helps it helps right?

He tore open a few of the alcohol swabs and cleaned Thadia’s leg better than he could have before. He opened the end of the gauze and procured the paint sticks.

Love this novel? Read it on Royal Road to ensure the author gets credit.

Adjusting the paint sticks for her leg size, Felix placed one on both sides of her leg and one under the back of the leg. He proceeded to tightly wrap the gauze around the paint sticks and her leg, effectively holding her leg in place so she couldn’t offset her bones as easily as she could without the makeshift splint.

Looking at his work Felix smirked in pride. It was pretty good if he could say so himself.

Next came the problem of a cane or crutches so Thadia could at least walk. He didn’t have enough materials for anything even close to supporting her weight much less enough to even make a simple cane. So he decided to go and search more cars and the like.

Half an hour later Felix came back to Thadia with a lot more than he left with.

A few more boxes of canned goods, a few more MREs, two more boxes with the medical cross, various sticks and different types of wood, and a few miscellaneous sizes of backpacks.

Setting to work immediately with the wood and the handyman tools, Felix made quick work on a set of crutches.

The finished product was moderately good. Sturdy enough to support even his weight easily, He weighed about 30 pounds more, and shaped to fit just neatly under ones armpits.

He handed them off to Thadia for her to try them out.

Wincing at the still very obvious pain of her leg, Thadia lifted herself off the ground and supported herself on the crutches. She started to move around with them getting used to the feel of the crutches and how they affected her walking speed. She didn’t move as fast as she could with two perfectly good moving legs, but it was better than nothing.

“How do they feel”

Felix was curious. Although he had made splints for arms and legs before he never had to cobble together a set of crutches for a temporarily handicapped person. He wanted to know how they felt.

“Well, for a set of cobbled together monstrosities, they work great. At least as far as I can tell. They don’t cause me discomfort or pain and I can move around pretty well.”

Felix cringed on the inside when she called his works “Monstrosities” but he kept it to himself.

“Well now that you have that I best be going”

Said Felix picking up two of the backpacks and filling them to the brim with various materials.

Looking at Thadia he saw her biting her beautiful bottom lips, probably contemplating what to do. Felix turned and started to leave.

“Please wait”

Felix turned around

“Can you please help me find my friends, or at least get me to Hettingway city. I can’t do it on my own. PLEASE, I promise I can reward you if you can get me to either”

Felix thought for a moment, was it worth it?

“What can you possibly give me that I don’t already have or that I can’t salvage?”

“Well……. I can give you some of my Wohregon Artifacts”

Thadia had a face of displeasure, obvious to all she had a displeasure in even thinking about giving out her important things, but she obviously thought her life was more important as she offered them.

Wohregon artifacts are tech from the Wohregon ships and land walkers that managed to get shot down in the beginning of the invasion or later from the teenage population.

Felix thought for a second, only a second.

“Ok, I’m in. Where could your friends have gone”

Felix said as he started to pack the rest of the bags full of the supplies.

Giving two bags to Thadia she swung them both over her shoulder one overlapping the other. Although she was injured she could still carry with the help of her crutches.

“Well it hasn’t even been a day since I fell down, I was off on my own looking for supplies, so they probably are still looking for me and won’t leave until tomorrow”

Thadia said as her and Felix started walking forward to wherever it was fate wanted them to go.
