Looking over each skill carefully, he was very happy that he is able to get free stats from leveling the skills in his class. The only difficult part was that he had no idea how to start; he noticed too late that when he switched to class that he was not given any spells to practice with.

He decided to put the thought aside for a bit and headed to the training hall. There were a lot more than before since, by this point, everyone knew that hitting the scarecrow for four weeks would allow them to gain the sword mastery skill, an nice iron sword, and a bonus upon completing basic training.

Well, they all practiced with one sword, maybe if I do it with two swords I can complete it twice as fast.

He didn’t know how wrong his assumptions were.

Using two swords looks cool in movies but trying actually attack with both weapons was harder then it seemed. Furthermore, it consumed twice as much stamina to attack and as a new player he was only able to attack the scarecrow 20 times before he was exhausted. He replenished some stamina by drinking water and eating some food but it dropped just as fast. It was hard to do it for a long time. Nonetheless, Derek persisted and after a while it became easier.

After about 4 hours he decided to take break. In those for hours, he managed to raise his strength, and vitality by 1, and dexterity and agility by 2.

During the break, he had a quick lunch, and pulled up the details for the essence of fire.

The details didn't explain how the skill can be improved. Thus, starting from scratch Derek decided to observe fire. It was all over the place but its luminosity differed depending on what it was contained in. He looked at it and wondered how he can manipulate fire.

Finding a quiet location, he lit a candle. Concentrating, he willed the fire to burn brighter.

The essence of fire skill increased by 10%

The candlelight flickered and become stronger.

If I can make it larger I can use it in battle

He put more concentration in it to increase its side. He felt his mana decrease as he did so.

I am doing the right thing. Now flare!

He put willed the fire to rise as much as it can, and it sent up a dispersed flame into the air almost hitting the ceiling.

Derek opened a window and felt a gentle breeze go past his face. Soon after, he was at loss as to how to practice using wind. Unlike fire, water and earth there was no physical thing to manipulate. There was only feeling as the wind went by.

He then imagined the feeling of wind lifting him into the air. Nothing happened but still a message appeared.

He wanted to continue but after creating several spells he was mentally drained.

I'll practice with light and darkness later. But I've already given myself more than enough practice for now.

After closing his eyes and relaxing for a moment he headed back to the training hall to continue practicing his skills with two swords; determined to use both of them to the best of his ability.

For the next four weeks, he alternated between practicing his dual-wielding skills and the magic that he created. Once he ran out stamina from practicing he would sit down near the scarecrow and practice the spell "flame."

This required him to have a source of fire on him in order to work. The spell was very hard to control in the beginning and there were even times it backfired, but with practice he was able control the direction of the spell.

His magic resist to fire also increased, when ever he got hit by his own spell. Even his understanding of the essence of fire increased when he lit himself on fire with the spell. It was often an amusing show whenever it backfired. Luckily, he always had some water nearby when it happened.

For the other half of the day he practiced his other spells in secret.

At the end of the fourth week he decided to go out of the city and hunt some rabbits. His only attack spell, “Flame”, was leveled to the extent that it will be useful in battle. Nonetheless, he had to carry a torch with him at all times in order for it to work. The number of times he can cast the spell isn’t only limited to his mana pool but also how long the torch would remain lit.

I can use this spell a maximum of 10 times as long as the torch remains lit. If I don’t miss any of them I should be able to complete the quest of collecting rabbit pelts in one sitting.

But due his lack of combat experience it took a lot longer than he expected. Numerous times the rabbit would just hop out of the way when he moved the torch close to it and cast the spell. He had to train himself to practice predicting where it would jump in order for the spell to hit. Furthermore, he never managed to get a direct hit on the rabbit. In return, he would feel the wrath of a partially scorched angry rabbit. In about, 4 hours he managed to collect 10 rabbit pelts for the quest.

Derek was hesitant to use Mimic because he had no idea how much even a spell costs, there is chance for him to lose health while using it as well. He needed to find someone who is willing to show him some spells or skills.

All I need to do is find a party then I can practice with them. With my current spells and stats I should be able to do okay.

He headed to the center plaza, and shouted, “Fire mage looking for a party to hunt wolves.” The center plaza was really busy and someone came over in a moment.

“Hi, I’m Martin. We are just looking for a mage, want to join us?” Martin said

“Okay”

“What level are you?”

“Level 3”

“It will be a bit difficult at that level hunting wolves. But we are fine since my brother who is level 10 is leading our party.”

Would you like to join the Party “Infinity”?

Yes | No

"Yes"

“We’re are at the gates, lets go!”

After, 4 week of preparation, Derek joined his first party and set out to complete the slightly harder quest of hunting wolves.
