Chapter 1 - The Quest!

A blaring alarm awoke the slumbering human. From the bed came slothful movements, which stopped in a minute. The clock rang once more, thankfully this time he was truly up and awake. Preparing for the day Kyle left for class. The excitement was unintentionally expressed by cheerful skipping. Entering university would've been a lot harder without support from a certain unique uncle. I have to find a way to repay Uncle Ken later.

Arriving at class he finds a seat near the middle. Looking around the room he took note of potential friends. However, the professor began the class giving no time for chatting them up. The clock ticked, time passed and only an hour was left until lunch, but an itch to go to the toilet loomed. Class ended later than expected, so breaking out into a sprint, he ran to the bathroom. Dashing into the closest stall, and slammed the door. A blinding light burst from inside the stall suddenly.

A head peeked from one of the neighbor stalls. His face wore an expression of fear and confusion. With a shaky voice, he spoke “H-Hello? A-A-Anyone there?” His unsteady arms opened the stall, but only an unoccupied stall was seen.

Adjusting to the flash of bright light, Kyle noticed a magic circle fading away beneath him. Whispers bounced around a magnificent room filled with golden pillars. Arrogant and curious gazes landed on the otherworldly person. The room's nobles stared as if an exotic animal was standing. Seated upon a throne the King wore golden robes and lazily slouched. Knights stood behind the King hidden in the shadows. By his side were many maids and beautiful concubines. Throughout the castle, a voice echoed carrying an overbearing strength.

“Hero By The Blessings Of The Gods, You Have Been Summoned To This World! You Are To Set Off On A Quest To Slay The Demon Lord And Restore Peace To The World! For The Greater Good-”

The King continued to speak as the shocking revelation was silently suppressed. The expression on the Hero’s face was serious. The nobles that expected panic watched as the show unfold and were pleasantly surprised by the solemn Hero. All did not seem as it appeared as undercurrents moved underneath the stone face. By the end of the speech, only the thought that existed was going to the toilet.

“- You Shall Rest And Prepare For A Week Before You Journey On Your Quest!”

One of the maids escorted The Hero to his quarters. Hasty steps followed the maid out of the throne room. Each second weighed heavily on the mind. Once they reached the room the maid left. Finally, all alone he immediately looked for anything resembling a toilet. After finding the toilet, he took aim and released it.

Pure relaxation entered the mind as his shoulder loosened. Every thought before this was gone with the wind, no longer weighing on the soul. Time went on forever in this state of mind. The heart, mind, and body lined up perfectly. The taut mind unwinded and relaxed. The serenity went on until it slowly faded away. Sitting he contemplated the surreal experience. The thoughts of the experience led to him thinking of the current situation. But, what was unnoticed to Kyle was that his face displayed an eerie calmness.

A knock on the door disrupted the free-flowing thoughts. Outside the door, a maid relayed the princess Abigail’s invite for an evening stroll in the garden. Descending to accept, he followed the maid outside and towards the luscious blue garden. The leaves on the trees were dark blue, and the grass. The sky was a shade brighter than on Earth. The bright yellow flowers among the blue made them pop. The statues held heroic poses and were known to be carved by a master artisan.

Reaching the meeting spot a beautiful woman with fiery crimson hair clashed against the blue garden. Beside her stood a knight in armor his youthful face was stoic. A group of young nobles hung around the princess, dressed in noble attire. Princess Abigail gracefully walked up to Kyle and gave a slight bow.

“Greetings Hero, it’s a pleasure to meet you.”

“Nice to meet you.”

Her lips twitched, but she kept her composure after noticing the watching maid. A majority of the noblemen had expressions of disbelief. A couple of younger nobles whispered among themselves unaware of their surrounding. Behind them, the maid from earlier stalked the interaction.

The dynamic continued as Abigail kept receiving nods and lack-luster responses. A few more courageous nobles quietly criticized the Hero, oblivious of the other noble’s troubled expressions. A young noble infatuated with the princess had enough of the Hero’s rudeness. When the garden's exit was in sight the noble burst out in anger.

“Hey! You’re the Hero are you not?! So, don’t go treating the kingdom’s delicate rose like a common forest flower!”

Princess Abigail stayed silent and watched the outburst with glee in her eyes. A couple of nobles were stunned after hearing the princess be called a delicate rose. Stunned by the noble, Kyle panicked, but mysteriously he looked completely relaxed.

“Arragont! Hero you believe you’re so powerful because of your title?! Rumors have it you’re weaker than the previous Heroes. I’ll confirm it myself, I challenge you to a duel Hero!” A sinister smile climbed on his face.

While the noble barked, Kyle noticed his whole body was unnaturally calm. His entire body was relaxed and he could control his facial muscles. So, quickly thinking his face showed annoyance and contempt. And a quick look towards Abigail as if to say, Aren’t you going to control your dog? The frown on the maid stalking the group didn’t escape Abigail’s eyes. A voice awfully similar to Abigail’s spoke, however it reminded everyone of a blizzard.

“Huh, who gave you permission to speak?” Abigail eyed the noble like looking at a disgusting worm. “You say The King failed to summon a strong Hero? In addition have the audacity to spread rumors.” Horror flashed past the noble’s eyes.

“N-No, your highness. I do not doubt the King nor dare spread rumors-”

“You say I’m lying? Hearing this worm’s voice is revolting, cut off his tongue.” In the quiet garden, the only audible sound was the rustling of leaves. What the noble once thought to be a delicate rose, was one brimming with thorns.

Most of the noblemen were indifferent but quiet as they watched. The few nobles who criticized the Hero were pale as snow. The Hero watched silently, but unknowingly a storm ran rampant within his mind.

The knight’s eyes had the desire of lowering the punishment, but just as he was about to speak, the princess scowled. The noble fell to the floor with a slam. Stood over him was a knife-wielding knight. The knight dropped his knee on the noble’s sternum to keep him steady. Taking a moment to get a grip on the red appendage. One swift slash and the tongue was severed.
