Crossing the spherical room was a torment that I personally would never wish on anyone. As soon as I came out of the tunnel I found myself overwhelmed by a cacophony of electric bursts before which a shooting would be peaceful classical music. Blinding flashes kept illuminating the room like those modern dance floors, but much more blinding.
But worst of all by far was the static that overwhelmed all my senses, my skin was completely numb from the electricity and even the toolbox was starting to heat up.
I felt like I was going to die at any moment and for a second I felt terror overwhelm me. I was not supposed to be there, but at home, after a boring but normal day at work, ready to indulge in my favorite hobbies. Without the potential risk of being electrocuted to death inside a mysterious machine in that hellish place.
But as quickly as it came, the terror disappeared and there remained only a numb calm in the face of danger and a sense of duty that I didn't have the time to question.
I crawled as best I could along the sloping floor of the great circumference holding my toolbox in front of me and after what seemed like hours I managed to locate the place that said the marble, apparently it was just an ordinary brick, but this one was made of some kind of metal and that's why I recognized it. When I handled it I discovered that it was just a cover for a hidden compartment. Inside were many symbols carved into the rock below, all filled with some clearly conductive substance in view of the clear illumination they gave off as if they were neon lights.
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
All except one, which was empty of said substance and did not glow.
Well, I thought, this must be what I need to reconnect. I didn't see any of those symbols physically connect to anything, though. Clearly, my job was to repair that symbol somehow. From what I saw of the others, it had to be filled with some conductive substance. I had no such thing.
Still lying on the floor, I opened the toolbox a bit and pulled out a loose piece of wire, covering the opening with the symbols with my body as much as I could to avoid the blinding flashes, I bent the wire into a shape approximating that of the symbol, something similar to a "g" combined with a "k". it was a little difficult because my hands were shaking and I was starting to see everything blurry but I managed it, pushing the entire bent wire into the carved symbol so that it ran along each stroke. As soon as I did, the copper wire began to heat up, it turned red and the plastic covering it melted. For a moment I thought it wouldn't work but then the melted plastic charred and helped secure the wire in place without it slipping out. And even though the copper metal was still red, it seemed to do the job.
Or I hoped it would work because I couldn't think of any other solution anymore, I fixed electrical stuff for a living, but that was clearly out of my league.
I closed the lid and crawled as best I could back into the tunnel, still crawling even after several feet. I leaned against the tunnel wall and waited. I couldn't feel my skin, all my body hair was standing on end and my whole body was trembling as if I had strong chills. My vision was all blurry and I could tell that the toolbox was smoking, it had gotten hot and in the center of the flat faces it was reddened from the heat.
I looked at my gloves and the fingertips were blackened and scorched. I took them off, and let myself slide sideways until I was lying on the ground, my vision dimmed and before long I lost consciousness.
