Chapter 1

I parted ways with my friends as we made our ways back to our own flats. I stumbled and yawned as I tried to walk in a straight line but walking in a straight line isn’t easy when it starts to curve as much as rainbow road. I knew I should have humbly declined the offer of that last tequila shot, but when someone else is buying you have no right to decline.

Eventually, I found myself back in my own flat, where I almost instantly collapsed on top of my bed. I closed my eyes until the deep embrace of slumber took me, but when I woke up I could see nothing. Usually, the light pours through the window onto my face, but there was no light. Only the pitch-black darkness.

Was this an elaborate prank by my friends to make me miss my first lecture, or did I drink myself to death and I was having the weirdest hangover ever. I tried to get up, but it seemed that my legs did not want to work no matter how hard I tried. As I strained and squirmed, bright words popped into my mind.

The darkness abruptly disappeared as if a blindfold was stripped away. Revealing millions of twinkling lights and a spectacular view I would never forget.

Distant stars forming beautiful constellations, nebulas of stunning colour, asteroid belts floating into the perpetual darkness. The star I somehow knew I was orbiting glistened a pale white, which engulfed my view and mesmerized me the more I looked upon it.

I started to freak out. This was too realistic to be a virtual game. I think I did get transported into some sort of game universe or something.

If this was a game, I need to focus on this for the time being. If I dwell on the past I would drive myself loony and make stupid mistakes.

It’s just a game, why are you panicking you may say. It sounds like so much fun.

Yes, you are correct. It does sound like a stupid amount of fun but in most games, you can die, and if I was the actual avatar in the game... Do the maths.

I should probably start trying to do something, but I have no idea what to do. I don’t even see my body.

...

'I can’t see my body.'

I frantically tried to see myself, but when I looked around I could see nothing that resembles a planet. In fact, I could see nothing of the body I currently have. I could have been a minuscule dot for all I knew, floating in space without a worry in the universe.

I cursed my bad luck. Of course, I did not get transported into a medieval world where I am the most overpowered being ever. I ended up playing a game where I am a stupid dot.

[System: Planet selection failed]

'Of course, how much of an idiot am I? The system must allocate me a planet first before I can do anything. Silly me.'

'Wait, what do you mean planet selection failed?'

[System: Permission to widen selection parameters requested]

[System: ERROR - PERMISSION DENIED]

[System: Permission to search for a new suitable starting location requested]

[System: ERROR - PERMISSION DENIED]

'That can’t be good.'

[System: Selecting suitable starting celestial body]

[System: Transitioning from orbital view to planetary view]

My view slowly zoomed in onto a lone asteroid.

'Is this a joke?'

[System: Granting user permissions to asteroid DB2-334-5BH-235-KA3]

'No, that can’t be me.'

'System! System, there must be a mistake I thought I was becoming a planet. Not an asteroid.'

'This is not what I signed up for if signing up means being abducted from my warm bed and forced to become Hugo the living fucking planet. If anything, search again to let me start as a planet.'

[System: Permissions allocated successfully]

'Pretty please?'

[Warning: If users total mass reaches 1, the user will be terminated]

'Oh no.'

[Enjoy your time playing Planetary Avatar]

'System you motherfu...'
