SKILLS       DESCRIPTION EFFECT INSPECT MINOR ABILITY TO IDENTIFY REVEALS INITIAL PROFILE OF OBJECT/ SUBJECT       PLANE HACKING INFILTRATING THE PLANE CONSCIOUSNESS WITHOUT BEING DETECTED CONTINUOUSLY BREAKING INTO THE PLANES FIREWALL (PASSIVE)

I stared at the interface. How can I, Asuraj Dragoneye, have skills? Firstly, I have no ability to absorb or make use of mana, thus, leaving me hopeless. I wasn't expecting much when I opened up the skills options but I became excited upon seeing skills listed. There are two skills, I read the transparent screen again and again. It made me feel good if I wasn't already.

"This means I'm not completely useless."

The second skill, Plane Hacking, caught my attention. Plane... plane should be referring to the world I'm currectly in, what is hacking? I started to think about how weapons are used. It would mean raising the weapon overhead and dropping it down but it didn't seem that was the case with this skill. The description on the interface said infiltrating. Quickly, the answer came to me, apparently, Plane Hacking is the secret manipulation of the plane laws. It is definitely not a skill that I can use, this is something that the Planer System is doing.

I remembered not to long ago, I checked my Profile. There, it listed my compatibility with the plane. My compatibility was extremely low. I thought, was it 7% or something? Considering this information, I realize that I was only able to get a seven percent compatibility due to the Plane Hacking skill. Another thought surfaced in me, what about my luck? It is already incredibly low. Since I was never from this world in the first place, naturally, the plane consciousness doesn't favor me. This results in me having low luck. But if I can change that, that would mean I have to get the plane to like me.

"In that case, having this Plane Hacking skill is already my good fortune," I said. Although it is simply theory, but if I can increase my compatibility with the plane then my luck should rise. Is there a way to increase my compatibility faster?

I know I wouldn't find the answers immediately so I put the Plane Hacking skill at the back of my mind for now and took a look at the other skill, Inspect. As the name implied, it allows me to analyze anything briefly. Any information would be superficial.

Having the desire to try it, I focused on the roof I laid on. More specific, my attention was focused on a single tile, I murmured. "Inspect!"

INSPECT

It really responded, a cogwheel appeared in addition to the interface that was already present. This cogwheel was a little different and little smaller in size. It appeared above the selected roof tile and a text box expanded from it. It felt a bit weird, was it suppose to be like this? Then the robotic voice of the Planer System started to rely the information.

NAME ROOF TILE MATERIAL  COMPRESSED GRAVEL AGE 786

"What an old... building."

I was caught off guard. If the tile was so old, then what speak of the building. On the other hand, the corners of my lips were raised. I was excited that I can do something magical. With this skill alone, I'm sure I can prove my worth. At least in certain circles. I looked at the other roof tiles, the wall and the window that I came through. According to Inspect, not all the objects here were of the same age. The window was about two centuries younger than the roof tiles but the wall was almost a millennium.

Feeling good about my ability, I back tracked and opened another section of the Planer System . Quest was next on the list after Status. I knew Quest was something like a mission that was given in the military. Considering that the System only became active a few hours ago, I didn't expect to find anything here but on the contrary, there was a quest here and it was still pending. Checking it out made me drop my eyebrows in a frown.

QUEST           DESCRIPTION  RANK OBJECTIVE  REWARD NO PLACE LIKE HOME AS A FOREIGNER, TOURING COUNTLESS WORLDS IS GOOD BUT HOME IS BEST SSS REACH 70% COMPATIBILITY WITH THIS PLANE NEXT OBJECTIVE

Did you know this text is from a different site? Read the official version to support the creator.

"Heh! Only 70 percent, not bad. I only need to add zero after my current compatibility, "I said with contempt.

That's an SSS rank quest. Doesn't that mean I have to be a peak power in this world? I'd probably be dead by the time reach 50%. Seeing the quest before me made my previous excitement freeze over. If quests are going to be this difficult, it be better to kill myself now. It's a good thing that SSS isn't the only rank.

The current quest is surely given by the Planer System, that's fine but how I get other quests? I seem to be ending up with one question after another. Although the SSS ranked quest was like a cold shower, I wasn't deterred.

I was just about to check out my inventory when I started to hear a bell. That wasn't an ordinary bell, well, it was but the purpose was different. In the church, the bell only rings three times a day. That's in accordance with the times for breakfast, lunch and supper.

The ringing bell indicated that it was time for breafast. I felt like it happened to soon, then, looking out to the town, I found that roads became busy. Many men were heading out while women were slamming mats against the house walls. I was too absorbed in the Planer System that I didn't realize that time flew. The peaceful morning disappeared and the noisy day began.

Getting off my bum, I stood up on the church roof. Glancing down, I see some people have come to visit our Lord, God Dimitri. I'm glad to have turned eighteen today, from this day onwards, I don't have to be at the entrance to welcome the visitors as part of my duties. In fact, I no longer have any duties since I'm going to be leaving this place soon. I turned back to the window frame and hopped through it right after. In a few minutes I was closing the door of the storage room.

In the passageway that I was in, I found a number of younger kids moving about. I've  lived here all my life but never have I made it a priority to learn the names of all these kids. At most, whatever duties that I was scheduled to do, is the only time I've associated with others who were doing the same duties. Some of them became friends, others remained acquaintances and those that I had a good impression of left the orphanage through adoption.

I stood at storage door waiting for these younger brothers and sisters to pass, like me, they all were heading to the food court for breafast.

"Hey, brother!"

Huh! While I was waiting, a chubby kid came to me unexpectedly. He had his eyebrows slanted, glaring at me as if I was the one who beat him up. Wearing ordinary pants and shirt, the kid held his fist in front of me. The kid said, "Did you take my cookies?"

"What cookies?" I asked subconsciously, it's still early in the morning and I didn't eat breakfast yet. I believe I've never met this kid before, yet, this fatty is already accusing me.

"Hmph! I hid my cookies in the dark room. Did you take it? Don't lie to me."

I see. I get the gist of it. Smart, fat kid. Hiding his stash in the storage room, I'm greatly surprised that you had so much restraint. Showing the kid a dirty smile, I said, "Why would I be looking for cookies? I was inside eating mutton instead."

Heh! The eyes of the chubby kid widened as if it were going to pop out, his mouth gaped open and he stood there like he got paralyzed. I smirked, this kid was indeed a smart one. He seemed to understand what I said. I didn't remain with him, immediately,  I followed the other youngsters and went for breakfast. Whether the kid remained stuck there or opened the storage room to get his stash, I had no interest to find out.

I muttered, "What a beautiful morning."

Following the crowd, I felt good about sending that fat kid a mental stunner. I needed the amusement to shake off the pressure brought by the Planer System. Walking along, the elderly sisters are ushering the younger kids while those that are older are on the own. The older orphans mainly hung around their close friends, forming small parties. I was like this back then too, the nostalgia hit me. I just remembered that my life won't be this simple anymore.

Not long after, I found myself by the dining area. It was a long hall. Unlike the chapel that had rows of benches, here there was nothing but rows of carpets. There was no furniture to sit and eat. The only tables present were at the back and it's only use was to serve out the preps made in the kitchen.

"Asuraj!"

"Kizan!"

"Happy birthday and may you have many more."

"Heh! Thanks."

While I stood near the entrance, my roommate and friend came and stood at my side. I looked at him and noticed that he had a huge smile on his thin face. He was a slender man about my height, brown hair hung at the sides of his head and his complexion was fairly fair. Like me, Kizan was the quiet kind. Kizan took out his shoes and kept it in a cubicle for footwear, I followed suit then we both entered together. On the inner side, on either side of the doorway, two sinks were present. An orphan held out a jug of water for washing hands. I took one sink while Kizan was served at the other.

Usually all of us, orphans, would form a line by the buffet table. That is, youngest group to the oldest but today is a little different. Boys on one side of the hall and girls on the other, we all stood in assembly waiting for Father Gabe to address us. He usually wouldn't call for an assembly, of course, he would make an address about someone's birthday but this breakfast feast isn't just for me. Many of us will be leaving this place soon,  so this feast is meant for all of us that are leaving.

DOOF!

Woah! I almost lost my balance their. Who the hell bumped into me?

"Woohoo! I made it."

I turned to see who attacked me, there I saw a round ball with a round head. It was Fatz, I gave him an angry glare and bumped his arm with my fist.

"Ahhhhh! What you hit me for?"

"You hit me first!"

"OH! I'm sorry. I woke up late so I rushing to get here," Fatz pleaded.

"What you mean? You was awake when I woke up."

"No I wasn't," he quickly shook his head.

Tch! I ignored him while Kizan filled the gap with conversation. We all waited in line in the hall, after several minutes Father Gabe still didn't appear. It wasn't like him to miss out something like this. Perhaps someone from a noble family came to the church, it was just speculation running in my head. Just then, Father Gabe entered, walking sternly without pause. The hall became silent.

Father Gabe  went to the front of the assembly and faced the lot of us. He began his speech, introduced the many of us who were moving out. He wished me well for my birthday and concluded. Everything the old priest said was concise and kept to a few words. I expected him eat with us, unfortunately he exited the eating area.

The senior sisters ushered the kids to take a plate filled with a few slendid preps. The young orphans all sat on the lengthy carpet, side by side, with their plates in front they began to eat. Soon, my brothers and I got to eating. The one who took extra helpings wasn't Fatz but the skinny Kizan. I laughed hearing Fatz complain.

"Hey, big brother!"

"Huh!"

Caught of guard I span my head to see who called me. Since I was sitting, my head raised to glance at the one standing before me. It was the chubby kid I had met not too long ago.

"Hey! Big brother, I want to swap with you."

"Swap what?" I asked.

"I can give you two cookies if you give me some mutton."

"Why'd you want to give me cookies?" I asked again curiously. He couldn't seriously be greedy for mutton after restraining himself from his biscuits.

"I was... I wanted to swap Pooven for his sweets but he didn't come. I heard the grandma sister say he went missing."

"Missing?!"

{DING}

Suddenly  a bell rang in my head, then a transparent cogwheel appeared  before me. A text box expanded from it giving me shock.

QUEST FINDING THE LOST ORPHAN
