Sam was left alone again in the dead-end street. Only now, he had spirit-like wings, and an otherworldly spear.
What on earth do I do with this?
He thought for a moment, and waved his wings around. After a few moments of focusing on them, he realized he could turn the wings 'off and on' at will. One moment they were there, and the next they disappeared in a vibrant cloud of sparkly dust.
The lance felt odd to him. It was very light, as if he were holding nothing. He held it straight in front of him, with the pointed end away from him. Maybe this works like the wings do?
He focused on the heavenly lance alone now.
After a moment, the wings on the lance started to flap on their own! It was as if the weapon was alive. Sam let go of it out of shock, and to his surprise, it did not hit the ground. It was floating there where he left it!
During his recent discovery of the magic floating lance, a car from across the street began to sound an alarm. This startled Sam. His heart raced, and he eyed the car to see if anyone else was seeing this freak show in the corner. The lance's wings flapped harder now, and the weapon launched itself toward the car at a breakneck speed.
“No no no! I can't afford to pay for car damages!”
The lance stopped at the edge of the car. It vanished in the same dust as his wings from earlier. Just as Sam started to wonder where it disappeared to, it reappeared in his hands.

He took a deep breath, and let out a long sigh of relief. Then a chuckle. Then a full on laugh.
A million thoughts raced through his mind. There was one that he kept coming back to, however.
Can I fly?
Sam concentrated, and summoned his wings back onto his back.
He spread them out and moved them up and down slowly.
A few deep breaths.
He flapped them harder now, and closed his eyes.
A few more deep breaths.
When he opened his eyes, he was lifted off of the ground! But, this was only a few inches off of the ground. This was more levitation than full-on flight.
“I can do it,” he said to himself.
Raising up his right arm, which wielded his lance, he put everything he had into his wings.
Inches grew to feet, feet to yards, and before he knew it, he was at the top of a building!
“Ha, haha, look, I'm doing it!”
Sam really took a moment to soak in the surroundings at this point. The sun was setting at the horizon. It was beautiful. He looked around at the city beginning to light up for the night. Finally, he took a glance toward The Tabernacle. It was out of his view from here, but he knew exactly where it was. He knew he had to head back there soon and face reality. Begin to rebuild.
Thank you, Lord. I'm not sure why you have granted me these abilities, or what the future holds, but I know there is work to do.
