Chapter 6: Encounters in Matsuri Town

Haruto Genmubutsu approached Toru-sensei in the teacher’s lounge, feeling a bit nervous. Toru was lounging on the sofa, adjusting his sleek sunglasses as usual.

“Toru-sensei,” Haruto began, his voice barely above a whisper, “I was wondering if I could go to Matsuri Town today. I need to buy some personal stuff.”

Toru looked up, a playful smile spreading across his face. “Ah, Haruto-kun, always so timid,” he teased. “Are you sure you’re not going to meet Marise? You only met her last week. Is this love? Lovers? Have you two already become lovers?”

Haruto’s face turned bright red. He didn’t know how to respond. Love? Lovers? He had never thought about such things. “N-no, Toru-sensei, it’s not like that,” he stammered, feeling his heart race. “I just need to buy some things.”

Toru chuckled, clearly enjoying Haruto’s discomfort. “Alright, alright. I’m just teasing you, Haruto-kun. You can go. Just make sure to stay safe and keep your phone on you.”

Haruto nodded, feeling a mix of relief and lingering embarrassment. “Thank you, Toru-sensei,” he said, turning to leave.

In Matsuri Town, Haruto bought the personal items he needed, like a new toothbrush. After finishing his shopping, he decided to take a break at Matsuri Park, a peaceful spot in the middle of town. He found a bench and sat down, trying to relax and enjoy the quiet.

As he sat there, he heard a girl’s voice nearby, sounding frustrated. “Why won’t you give me my food? I gave you money three times!” she exclaimed, her voice filled with irritation.

Haruto looked over and saw a girl struggling with a vending machine. She had the same build as Marise, but her face was different. Could it be Marise-senpai? No, it’s not her… but she looks so similar.

Gathering his courage, Haruto approached the girl. “Um, excuse me,” he said softly, “do you need help with the vending machine?”

The girl turned to him, her expression a mix of frustration and surprise. “Oh, hi. Yes, please. This machine just ate my money and won’t give me my snack.”

Haruto nodded, feeling a bit more confident. “Let me see if I can help.” He examined the machine and noticed a small button labeled “Refund.” Pressing it, he heard a clink as the coins were returned.

“Here you go,” he said, handing her the coins.

The girl’s face lit up with a grateful smile. “Thank you so much! I was about to give up.” She paused, looking at him curiously. “You’re from Phantom Reaper School, right? I’ve seen your uniform before.”

Haruto nodded. “Yes, I’m Haruto Genmubutsu. And you?”

“I’m Ichika Mugenjo,” she replied, still smiling. She was wearing a short pink cheongsam that hugged her figure perfectly, accentuating her slender waist and athletic build. The fabric shimmered slightly in the sunlight, giving her an ethereal glow. The cheongsam had a high slit on one side, revealing her long, toned legs as she moved. On her chest was a large Mugenjo symbol: a stylized infinity loop (∞) intertwined with delicate blossoms, symbolizing the clan’s endless potential and connection to nature. “Nice to meet you, Haruto-kun. Thanks again for your help.”

Haruto’s eyes widened in surprise. “Mugenjo? Are you related to Marise-senpai?”

Ichika hesitated, her smile faltering slightly. “We’re… related, but it’s complicated,” she said, her tone becoming more guarded. “I’d rather not talk about it right now.”

Haruto nodded, sensing her reluctance. “I understand. It’s nice to meet you, Ichika-san.”

Ichika’s smile returned, though it was a bit more subdued. “Nice to meet you too, Haruto-kun. Thanks again for helping with the vending machine.”

Just then, another girl approached them. She had the same build as Marise and Ichika, but her face and hairstyle were different. She was also wearing a short pink cheongsam with the Mugenjo symbol on her chest.

“Haruto-kun, this is Futaba Mugenjo,” Ichika introduced her.

Haruto greeted her politely. “Nice to meet you, Futaba-san.”

After a brief chat, Ichika and Futaba said their goodbyes to Haruto. As they walked away, Haruto couldn’t help but feel a growing curiosity about the Mugenjo clan. Meeting two more members of Marise’s clan had piqued his interest even more. What is the Mugenjo clan really like? he wondered, feeling a mix of excitement and intrigue.
