Brother's Promise

"You are not my brother."

Aeron weakly smiled as he looked at Rosalie. He looked like her brother, but it was not enough to fool people with whom he normally interacted, nor did Aeron want to fool anyone.

"I am not your blood brother," Aeron calmly said, looking into her clear, slightly scared eyes.

"But I am going to be your brother from now on," Aeron gently smiled. "Your brother told me to take care of you just like he does."

Rosalie looked behind Aeron and warily asked, "Where is my brother?"

Lapis sighed.

[This is going to be heartbreaking for her.]

Aeron showed her his palm and then he closed it before saying, "Your brother gave me this."

When Aeron saw Rosalie's gaze moving to his fist, he opened it and simultaneously took out the C-grade Haunt's core on his palm.

"This is a C-grade Haunt's core. Your brother said it's for you," Aeron smiled.

Rosalie's eyes shone, but then she blinked and looked at Aeron, "but where is my brother? We were supposed to eat at Jill's Restaurant once he returned. He promised me."

"Yeah, let's go and eat first," Aeron grinned. "After that, we can buy a Phantom Ability potion for you. I'll tell you about your brother while we eat, what do you say?"

"Jill's restaurant opens in the afternoon," Rosalie said, her expression suspicious as she looked at Aeron's casual outfit consisting of pants, a t-shirt, and a jacket. It was strange in her eyes.

"Are you from the core area of the city? Why do you look like my brother, but a bit different?" Rosalie hesitantly asked.

"I am your brother too, but a long lost brother that separated when we were young," Aeron grinned. "I am from a faraway place. I only arrived here because of our brother and I am very thankful for that."

Rosalie cutely tilted her head to the side, confused. "Really?"

"Yes," Aeron sincerely nodded, his sunset-colored eyes as pure as possible.

Rosalie looked at Aeron carefully and couldn't help but feel strange at how Aeron looked so similar to her brother, except for his hairstyle and lean physique. 'He looks like he eats healthy food every day.'

"Ok. We can go eat breakfast at another place, but you have to tell me about my brother while we eat as you said," Rosalie said with a stern expression that looked so cute that Aeron wanted to pinch her cheeks.

"Haha, I promise," Aeron brightly smiled and gently patted her head. "You don't have to suffer anymore. Your brother will make sure of that."

"Umm," Rosalia took a step back. "OK, come in. I brush my teeth first and then we go."

Rosalie felt that Aeron was not lying after talking with him and he didn't feel like a bad person.

"Ok," Aeron smilingly nodded and followed her inside.

The living room was small. Wash basing was at the corner, and in the same corner was a door leading into the bathroom.

To its left was the way to the kitchen, no door. And to the wall facing it was a door leading to the only bedroom.

The living room had a chair and a small sofa.

[Aeron. Use Focus by infusing curse and spirit energy in your eyes to check her body. Let's see her problem first.]

Aeron sat on the chair before glancing at Rosalie, his pupils showing a faint violet sheen as he used Focus by infusing a bit of curse and spirit energy into his eyes.

Rosalie's figure showed a normal aura like humans, but there was a spot that was lit up darkly. A black ball with tendrils wiggling out of it. It was right at the center of her abdomen.

'What the hell is that? A curse? How did she get that?'

[Hmm, it's indeed a curse mark that a Haunt gave her. It's not rare for Haunts to invade cities. It happened over a year ago, so she was targeted at that time.]

[That must be painful to her, and a whole lot torturing when that curse mark flares up, which usually happens when she sleeps. The dark circle under her eyes shows that she couldn't sleep properly due to that.]

Aeron internally frowned, 'There are so many Phantom Hunters, why can't they cure her?'

[It's a risky thing. Done carelessly, Rosalie might die since she doesn't have her body's spirit self-defense that people with spirit power have. However, there's another way to remove a curse mark from someone that not many people here know, since it's not general knowledge here.]

Lapis narrowed her eyes and continued.

[Curse transfer. You can beckon the curse to your body with a simple method. Once it is in your body, you can easily erase it with no risks.]

'Tell me that method,' Aeron's eyes glinted. 'She should not suffer anymore.'

After a minute, Rosalie was done brushing her teeth and turned to Aeron with a smile, involuntarily showing eagerness to eat breakfast outside today. "I am ready."

"Before that, let's cure your problem first," Aeron said with a serious expression, his gaze on her abdomen. "Come here."

Rosalie's eyes widened. "You can do that? Are you an A-rank Phantom Hunter?"

"I am not an A-rank Phantom Hunter yet, but I can cure you without harming you," Aeron gently smiled. "I promised your brother that you will not suffer pain or go hungry anymore, so this second brother will make sure of that."
