Chapter 8: Who am I?

Chapter 8: Who am I?

When Nalser had understood the essence of his Qi, the Sweepers eyes flashed. His mind was shaken, “He understood the essence this fast. In the future, his limitation will truly be his own determination.” That type of a situation was both the best condition and the worst. The best it was because, unless he lost his determination and will, there were no limitations to his future progress. However, should he lose his determination his progress would immediately plummet and finding it again would be extremely hard. However, there was extremely little Sweeper could do for Nalser, the only thing he could do was watch over him.

Nalser however had now comprehended his own Qi essence and he felt as thought a dam broke open. A lot of questions he did not understand or had doubts about suddenly made sense. He slowly stood up and held out his arm, a little black flame materialized on his palm. He looked at it and mumbled with a light smile, “The Nether Flame is something that is dormant. It usually seems like it is dead but should something happen it will explode with power. Nether Flame Qi is the same. Usually it is dormant and keeps on a low radar, however, should you move it, it will explode with power.” As he kept looking at the Flame just swaying on his palm in a rhythmic motion, his eyes glazed over as he kept comprehending something.

In his mind, his mind flashed back to his childhood. In an ancient courtyard, a child about 5 years old was practising his punches. An old man with a long grey beard was looking over him smiling. It was already dusk but the little boy kept practising his punching until the old man laughed, “Hey, lil’Nalsu Come here, Grandpa will show you something.” When he heard the voice, the little boy looked towards the old man and smiled. He eagerly wiped his sweat off and ran towards the old man like the little child he was. He looked at the old man with glittering eyes as he asked him eagerly, “What is it Grandpa, show me, show me.” Seeing the little boy so excited, the old man let out a laugh and had the little boy sit where he had sat.

He moved to the centre of courtyard and looked at the boy solemnly, “What I am about to show you, you are not to try without my permission.” After he said that, he waited for the little boy to agree. When he saw the little boy nod his head, he took a deep breath and entered a fighting pose. Red sparks flashed on his right arm as he gathered strength into it. As he released his breath, he punched out. A loud roar pierced through the silent skies as a flame dragon was shot out from his punch. The young boys mouth was open as he looked at the Dragon shooting towards the guys with glittering eyes. The old man looked towards the little boy and smiled, “This is what I wanted to show you. If you at some time understand the essence of the world in your life, you can also learn to do that. However, it is very dangerous. One false move and you could end up hurting yourself a lot.”

The little boy eagerly nodded his head but then Nalser’s memories were cut short. He woke up from his daze, and he realized that tears were streaming down his face. He remembered that day as clear as it had happened yesterday. It was the first and last time his Grandfather had shown him that skill. However, it had left a very deep impression on him. And 4 years later, when he was 9 years old, that same move, had changed his world forever. He hadn’t followed his Grandfathers advice and tried to use the skill. What happened afterwards was a catastrophe and from that day onwards, he was left alone in that world. These were the memories that Nalser did not want to remember.

As his emotions grew out of control, the flame on his palm went out. He still stared blankly but he had reached a mental barrier. This was precisely the situation that Sweeper and the rest dreaded the most. The emotional scar left behind in Nalser’s heart was too deep, so it started affecting his determination and also his will. As a result, Nalser could no longer summon the flame no matter how much he tried. In the end, he could only sigh and give up.

With a sad expression he looked up towards the starry sky and sighed. He turned around to walk towards the border of the island and sat down at the edge, reminiscing. Sweeper watched as the situation went from okey to wonderful and to disastrous in an hour. He couldn’t understand, what had just happened, so he quickly gathered all the puppets and conveyed what had happened to everyone without leaving out a single detail.

When everyone heard it, they were just as confused as Sweeper were. They all looked towards Librarian who was most knowledgable. Librarian just let out a sigh and said, “I am not 100% sure but it seems like an emotional scar. During his comprehension he probably touched upon the scar which threw his will out of balance. This is really bad. If he can’t overcome the scar, then his progress will completely stagnate and he won’t advance an inch in his whole life.” When everyone heard Librarians opinion, they looked towards Sweeper subconsciously, waiting for the decision. Sweeper was their “leader”, who made the decisions.

If you encounter this narrative on Amazon, note that it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.

Sweeper thought for a second and said, “We will give him half a year. If he can’t overcome his scar by himself, we will help him out.” Everyone looked towards Sweeper and one of the puppets present said, “But were we not supposed to intervene unless he was supposed to die or until he reached the Empyrean Immortal level?” The situation had reversed very quickly, so all of them were puzzled. Librarian just let out a sigh and said, “Think about it, he holds both the pendant and the Master’s cultivation art. If his progress stagnated, the Legacy will be broken.” Hearing that, all the puppets finally understood the severity of the situation. If the Legacy broke, they would have no other choice but to stay on this god forsaken Island for an eternity with no way out. Everyone immediately nodded and left to do preparation in case they needed to intervene.

However Nalser had no idea, that his action had alarmed all the puppets like that. He was currently sitting at the border of the island. One of his feet was dangling over the edge while he was leaning on the other. His eyes were fixated on the starry sky as scenes from the past flashed in his mind. He had no memories of his parents, all he could remember was his Gramps. He had always been there for him, except for him, he had never met other people. He had been in that little courtyard for his whole life, even after Gramps died in the accident, the place was completely cleaned up overnight.

Food always appeared where it always had and life went on. It wasn’t that he didn’t want to leave the courtyard but he couldn’t. Over the walls were light screens to keep him from exiting. All the walls were unbreakable and the door was the same. The only thing he had seen from the outside world was the sky. He had no idea, what the outside world was, the only things he knew were the things that Gramps had told him.

There were also a lot of Xianxia like books that his Grandpa had brought him. As all the things flashed past his mind, he realized one thing: He had no idea who he was. His Grandpa had never told him more than that his parents died in an accident when he was young and his name was Nura Nalser. Everything else was a mystery. As Nalser tried to remember more details, maybe had missed something, he felt a splitting pain in his head.

A memory ran to his mind. Everything was on fire and Grandpa was standing in front of him, kneeling on one knee. His hair was dishelved and he was covered in blood. His robes tattered, he looked straight ahead where stood a middle aged man in luxurious robes. Next to him stood a young man 13-14 years old with fiery red hair and fiery red eyes, dressed in completely red robes. The two had had a very furious expression as the man in luxurious clothes said to the old man in a clearly agitated tone, “Why have you disobeyed Our orders?! You were to never teach this little bastard anything. It was already benevolent of Us that we allowed you to meet with this little bastard, and you defy US like this?!” Nalser was clearly scared as he was hiding behind his Grandfathers back.

Gramps only smiled as he said, “You worthless shit. Aren’t you acting all high and mighty now. Have you forgotten that even though you both share my blood, your bloodline was not originally the direct bloodline? You were just a branch family, who after obtaining enough power, usurped the direct bloodline.” Saying that, the old man stood up and had a dignified air floating around him as he said in a majestic manner, “I am one of the Ancient Bloodline and Nalser is the only direct descendant I have left. Do you really think that just because I didn’t interfere in you usurping the direct bloodline, that I am afraid of you?” As the words left his mouth, flames seemed to grow on the old man as he was completely covered in flames. The battle played out in the capital and in the end, his grandpa lost.

However, he used his last power to seal this memory deep inside him and made fake ones to replace them and also to isolate the courtyard and put it inside a special dimension he had prepared beforehand. It had a formation that automatically delivered food and books to him. That endless cycle continued until he woke up inside a new courtyard. From there on his fate had changed.

Nalser looked with a shocked gaze, the more he remembered the more he was confused. Who was the man in luxurious robes, who was he, why was he in the courtyard and so on. As more and more questions popped up, also a goal formed. He stood up and looked resolutely at the starry sky as he made up his mind to become strong and find out about his origins. Also, he had to take revenge for Gramps. When he had made that resolution it seemed like a knot had been untied in his heart. If before he had no reason to cultivate, then now he had a clear goal to strive for. As people say, with a goal even the impossible becomes possible.

His aura started climbing and he continiuosly kept breaking through the Qi Gathering Stages. His aura kept rising until it reached the peak of 10 stage. Without further ado, he rushed straight towards the training room to temper his body. His eyes looked resolute as he kept increasing the difficulty of the tempering formation. He grit his teeth and persevered. Over the next few months, it was as if he had gone into a frenzy. He cultivated like mad and tempered his body like mad. The period for resting was minimal of the minimal.

Seeing Nalser like that, stupefied Sweeper and the rest. Now they were truly worried that he might kill himself with the over training. They already prepared all the things they needed if some accident should occur. No one paid any more mind to the fact that they were not supposed to help him out.
