Michal screamed, waking up with a body drenched in sweat.
Tysons abominable raven form rippled before reforming into a blob of darkness.
The two stared each other in the eyes before Michal went to dress himself. Line clothes, in simple colouration nothing expensive.
The former dark lord could sympathise with bad memory's, his own trauma from the night before still stuck deep.
He got the incredible idea to run away, only to be reminded of by the contract magic that he had a distant limit to his Master.
The morning opened into a horrible bright and loud day.
Huddled next to a small window in the attic, Tyson watched the boy swing his wooden sword against imaginary enemy's standing in a see of golden stalks.
His strikes were faster than they had any right to be, ocattionaly something golden could be seen zapping around the sword.
A breeze went through the trees and then travelled over the fields disappearing in the distance. At first it had not bothered him, he hadn't even noticed it.
Every sensation every ray of light shone allot brighter after the dark of the afterlife or wherever he had been, but now that glow had faded a little.
But now he missed the smell of the forest, the taste of a well made dish and the sensation of the wind brushing over his skin.
The only light on the horizon were the magic lessons that Michals mother promised them in the evening.
Hours later, the sun was about to sink.Carefully sneaking down the stairs, hoping the two sisters wouldn't find him, he made his way into the study.
“So you are a wrath huh?” Michal grinned and patted Tysons head faster than he could doge. “Scary, scary. So you have someone from your last life you want to haunt. Maybe one day you could tell me, well if you actually remember much.”
Yeah it would be an absolute blessing to the world if you just killed yourself.
Luckily Michals mother entered the study before Tyson could be abused any further.
„Magic is a force of nature. It is everywhere, and no aspect of it is good or evil.“
Seria, he found out her name this morning, waved her hand, conjuring small flakes of snow. Slowly they drifted down, mesmerising the two reincarnated individuals.
„Now spells and ability's come in many forms but they have one thing in common. Do one of you two know what that is?”
Tyson appreciated the thought, although he still hadn’t figured out how to speak.
„They all use chakra.“
His mother smiled and ruffled Michals hair. Some of Tyson's goodwill to her evaporated again.
„Exactly, and to harness chakra we have to draw in the energy around us and convert it into our own. Spirits,“
She looked at Tysen.
„Can do it instinctually but humans have to practice to draw it into them.“
Michal shot Tyson an offended look and Tyson shot one back, well as good as he could manage.
His mother then went into exhaustive explantation about breathing, the right posture and all that crap, to which Michal listen with stars in his eyes.
But all the yoga aside, the core of the exercise revolved around an unbroken concentration and a mental picture of streams converting into a core.
At first, he tried thinking of himself as polarised pulling in the chakra particles. That didn’t work out well, as he began questioning the notion of negatively and positively charged chakra.
It clicked for him when he pictured Einstein's explanation about gravity.
He did not quite see the world in a new light, nor was he flooded with power. But instead a small fickle light inside of his mind glowed ever so slightly stronger.
The amber was like breathing, at the back of your mind until something changed and you became extremely aware of it. Only that he did not breath any more.
Bad analogies aside he did get a skill for his effort.
[Skill:Chakra absorption(0) gained.]
[Chakra density raised]
[Max chakra raised by 2]
It took Tyson longer than he would like to admit it and even worse, longer than Michal who by now sat on the floor cross legged.
Well he still had the night to practice, and catch up to the terrorist.
Sadly Seria refused to teach them anything else stating that it was too dangerous until Michal had a better control of his chakra.
The days were getting more and more peaceful, Saria continuing with her lessons on chakra absorption, and a basic method to feel the chakra inside and around you.
The narrative has been taken without authorization; if you see it on Amazon, report the incident.
The family started accepting him too, and the two little daughters had moved on from treating him as their pet. Most probably because that one time he had posed as their shadows, and gave them quite a stare when he opened his eyes. Good memorys.
The nights went by quick as he continued studying rituals in Saria’s books. He had found a tome on spells too, mostly the elemental type, but they were at least third circle (although he still had no idea what that actually meant) and waay to complicated for him.
The theory behind the symbol made a lot of sense, and it was similar in structure to a programming language. But only in structure. The effects, well they varied.
The first ever ritual he cast was [Campfire] which according to the book should act as a smokeless heat source in cold nights.
In his hands it produced a small gust of warm wind before fizzling out, leaving the coal he used as a sacrifice slightly singed.
Tyson tried to summoning too, but nothing answered his call. That would have been a quick way to build up an army.
A little bit dispirited he went about trying to reconstruct the witches rituals from the little he could gleam from the demon hunters journal.
The gentle light of the moon shone down through the small window into the hard wooden floor of the attic.
Circles of chalk were drawn with masterful precision, small tendrils of shadow moving to complete the work. Next to it an old leather bound book, the pages filled with crude writings and meretricious fresher notes written by Seria.
In the middle of the Ritual laid a single feather Tyson had stolen from an older chicken. Around it, a beautiful violet flower, a toadstool and a rotten rat were placed in their own smaller circles.
The experienced scientists form was flickering with nervousness, sure he had performed rituals before, but that the first time he wasn't just blindly following instructions.
He took one last look at the runes, everything seemed plausible…. Jet all he had were the descriptions of an anonymous witch hunter, maybe the old man had changed some things on purpose?
No, he was not going back now.
He laid his hands on the small circles designed for them. Immediately he felt the small ember in side of him blaze to life and small sparks of grey and crimson chakra run along the runes, growing in intensity until everything lit up in a flash of light.
Immediately Tyson felt a sense of weakness overcome him as his ember stopped burning trough the chakra and now only simmered with a weak light.
That had not happened with the other Ritual.
The ingredients and runes had vanished, only singed wood burned in mysteries shapes remained. Beautiful, but a pain in the ass to remove.
The next morning kiki, the smaller girl came running into the kitchen after going out to fetch some eggs.
“Mummy, Mummy something happened to old Bertha!!”
She died of various diseases and poison?
“Come come, you must see it!”
Seria let herself be dragged outside by the small girl, and both Tyson and Michal followed curious for different reasons.
There they found Bertha, violet feathers with a sprinkle of red dots added to the mix. When they arrived the chicken squeaked with excitement.
Okay at least I know what went wrong.
Different than everyone else who seemed to find the situation endlessly amusing, Seria hardened her face and approached the chicken with a serious look.
Tyson could hear her mumble under her breath.
“I looks just like a curse from the witches of the wolfsbane crucible. But they all died twelve years ago..”
She grabbed the squeaking chicken and looked under its feathers.
“And it seems more like a harmless joke than a malicious ritual. Strange, so very strange.”
Only years of training allowed Tyson not to react, only staring at the creature with curiosity like the other children. Well like the one children besides two reincarnated.
