Aevicious

“... It's over...” whispered a lone figure. “Had to be done.”

It was a girl, standing amidst the fresh smoke of a devastated town. Ashes and embers laid around, seemingly what was left of the houses and their inhabitants that were once there.

“There can be no other way,” the figure said, attempting to reconcile herself.

The sun peeked behind the tall, protruding mountains, shining its rays of light upon the ruins, fully displaying to her the atrocities she had just committed. It was taunting her.

Her attire was unblemished, with its ornate cloak, plated armor, and horned, conical hat, but nothing could had washed away what she had done. All of her accomplishments were solely of horror and sin.

Under her cold visage, was a pair of wavering, beady eyes, meekly hiding under her dark-tinted glasses.

But none had ever thought it'd be utilised in such a way:

the way of war.

“Following orders… just following orders…” she murmured to herself.

Although only the crackling of dying embers could be heard across desecrated grounds, one could feel and sense the dead howling in torment, fear, confusion, and anger, as their killer remains roaming their homes. An influx of emotions hit her as she stood dazed by the result of her actions.

With one move…

“... I obliterated everything.”

She didn't shed a single tear, but not because she was heartless, not because she was sadistic, but because she had reason.

An inhuman justification to some, and rational to others, but she didn't care.

She took one last look at the charred rubble, and walked away, reaffirmed at the reminder of her true purpose.
