20 - Class Preparation and Class Ceremony

20 - Class Preparation and Class Ceremony

After a quick bath, one Millet accompanied him to that caused the bath to linger a bit longer, Rou came out the other end refreshed and wearing… a cloaked hood over top his clothes otherwise? Millet and his Parents were both confused until he suggested, "Well, if the Sage of Fluff goes out to the Church for such an occasion it'll turn into a mess."

"I suppose so, but by this point they know us equally well, or at least to a lesser degree. If they see us all going together it's not hard to assume who you are." Shiela made a point, which caused Rou to sigh. "Can't very well have the all of us go out then at the same time. In that case, I'll skip the secrecy and simply ask others to respect my trip accordingly if it comes up. Perhaps they'll be accepting about it."

Instead of the hooded robe, Rou actually put on a rather fancy outfit himself, one his mother had picked for him. She'd made it long ago in hopes he would return in time for his fifteenth year but after that came and passed she put it aside, thinking it would never get used.

But once she was told his sizes as he'd come out, she hurriedly had them remade for just this occasion when it ever came up. Much in the same style of the older Wolfs clothes that had come to speak with him, or some of the 'professional' clothing he'd seen in the past in his time in the noble district and inside the castle, a light green expensive-feeling fabric, almost like silk from his own world, was what the top was made of. Unlike his normal sleeveless look, it went down to his wrists and tied around the forearm for securing with an excess of fabric. It went down towards his knees in length, with a pair of similar-materialed pants into a pair of proper-looking monster hide shoes. It was all cinched in with a belt of the same monster hide as the shoes, as well as a decorative sword at the left hip. Of course, the sword /could/ work, but it was more for looks than function.

Affection's playful teasing about how nice he looked caused Rou to laugh. "It would seem Affection approves of your craftswork, mother. Though… it seems she wants to adjust something. Do you mind?"

At first Shiela seemed pleased, then annoyed about the adjusting. "What, does she think I did something wrong?" Rou noticed why she was upset and sighed before saying, "She didn't tell me either but it's nothing like that. I think she just wants to add something rather than take it away. Look, if you really don't like it, I'll ask her to change it back and she can give me something else for the occasion?"

Shiela almost complained again before Dominic gently touched her lower back, causing her to quiet down. They all knew of her past mistrust of the gods, so here and now she started to puff up. "Fine, but I reserve the right to tell her no."

Rou smiled and hugged his mother, leaning to kiss her atop the head before opening an aether node nearby and stepping into it. By the time a few blinks had passed, Rou had stepped back out and it would seem the change Affection made was…

The belt, which originally had a single sword on the left hip, had been duplicated and inverted, with a second belt now hanging with a similar sword off his right hip. Seems she knew Rou's tastes very well and he actually was rather happy with the look, twitterpated as he was with the idea of two swords.

Shiela and Dominic both noticed the changes, given Dominic was the one who had the original belt and sword commissioned. "Oh…" they both kind of said at the same time. "But why two? Isn't that a bit showy?" His father was the one to ask, causing Rou to sigh into his palms as he was reminded of the old gopher giving him shit for his choice. "Yes, it's showy, no, it's not practical, yes, I know one sword is more common, yes, I know it's a bit silly, but yes also I think it looks cool and Affection knows my tastes there well enough to assume I'd like how it looked."

The sudden outburst surprised his parents who quickly went to apologize, "No, no, sorry, I'm not upset, just… that old gopher blacksmith who was here a couple weeks ago? Yeah, I have been hearing the same from him forever. 'Quit your fancypants two swords dreamin' nonsense just learn to use the one like a godsdamned normal person and' blah blah blah." Shiela actually laughed at that, not disagreeing but understanding that all kids go through that fanciful hero phase at some point and seemingly Rou was, despite his current age, suffering accordingly. Perhaps he never got to really go through it like normal boys when he was younger?

Something Rou hadn't realized? Was Millet had stepped aside and written a note on a piece of paper, tossing it equally into the aether node that he had opened and watched it disappear. It came back out before he did, Affection having noticed such immediately, and with it was something that had excited Millet. "Rou, I… didn't really have time to prepare anything of the sort of course, I only learned about this today, but… Affection helped me put something together. Bend down? I'm a bit short." she giggled at that, "Unless you'd rather pick me up instead?"

While he'd been trying to keep it from his parents, the way they looked at Millet and he with a knowing grin made him realize there was no point in trying to be coy. So he both leaned down, but also picked her up and gave her a kiss in front of them for the first time, causing Millet to make a happy noise. And then she promptly leaned against his face as he held under her backside, letting her loosely tie his hair up with the rather pretty ribbon she'd been given from Affection, into the same loose bun he favored but instead, making it a little more tidy instead of loose like was his normal.

"There." And then she took a kiss of him in turn, as it was also the first time they'd really kissed in front of his parents. And one more for good measure as she added softly, "That one was for Affection, since I'm pretty sure you two can share tastes, right? From your eating?" Rou was a bit surprised as Affection cackled in his head, "She's cute. I'll ask Creation if he minds if you bring her up here at some point."

Seems Millet had won over Affection in a single go even more so than she already had been approved.

The trip through the capital was a comfortable, relaxed outing with the all of them. Time to relax, and have food at the very restaurant Rou had recommended. Indeed, it suited all their tastes, especially Mlillet as she'd never gotten the chance to eat anything quite that fancy before. Even with her time serving the sil Krum family, scraps were to be discarded, no matter how much was there, as what would others think if it turned out their helpstaff was eating scraps? Thus she had long since discarded enough food to feed her family for a lifetime.

Thus she ravenously ate everything presented to her and it left the others awkward enough that they finished their pastries even if they weren't quite that hungry. Rou even got a second, and third helping for himself and Millet until she realized she was overeating and felt a bit bad but when she realized no one judged her, she got a little weepy and hung onto Rou for a while until she calmed down.

What really surprised her was Rou suggested they wait there a bit and hopped away, running off while using the new clothes - which the accessories such as his belts and shoes, were equally enchanted with anti-gravity letting him hop around easily. It took him about fifteen minutes give or take, but he came back with a single candy for his parents and two for Millet. They were surprised only for him to add, "Affection seemed to think it's impossible for anyone to cry eating these since they taste so good."

If you spot this tale on Amazon, know that it has been stolen. Report the violation.

Unfortunately, Affection was wrong, as Millet quickly began to cry again as she hadn't expected a Goddess to favor her in that regard. Though Affection was right, the candy was so good that all the tears were reserved for excess drooling, the lemon and lime-flavored hard candy causing his parents and Millet to drool excessively. Hard to cry and drool at the same time.

Rou didn't have one, instead tossing it into Affection's domain to let her enjoy it while briefly cutting off their senses. He didn't much like lemon for whatever reason, unless it was on fish.

And indeed, though he was as ever the center of the crowds attention wherever he went, given he was with his family the crowd just kind of got the idea and no one ran up for kiss blessings today. Something that touched him a bit, having thought others would just not care and try anyways, like in his old world.

Finally getting to the Church, though, Rou and company went in and after the clergy realized what he was there for, they quickly lead him through towards a private room in the far back that was typically used for noble class blessings. Though the normal case was for only the priest and the of-age teen to go in, the noble side meant everyone could enter. At first they started to deny Millet as she was wearing maids attire, but Rou actually reached over and thumped the fellow on the nose, causing him to squeak and fall back, covering his nose and clearly looking caught off guard.

This being the first time that any of them had seen Rou physically confrontational at least since he'd scruffed his father after the misunderstanding with their rather punch-heavy foreplay, his parents both started to try and mediate, but instead the priest apologized and encouraged Millet to go in as well.

While everyone thought Rou's thump was just a warning… it actually wasn't. As the clergymember had his nose covered they couldn't see, but his nose was quite broken, bleeding into his hands and having to breathe through the mouth. Nothing light magic couldn't fix, but still, it was an effective ward towards him and the rest of the church as rumors spread.

Do not speak down to Millet. And do not piss the Sage of Fluff off. Even if he was the well-regarded sweetheart Sage of Fluff, it seems there was a hidden temper.

"So, what now?"

"Oh, there is no grand ceremony. I could have activated the process for you back at your home, but I realized your family and Millet very much wanted to go through the steps."

Rou smiled at that, making a note to thank her in private later on.

The room itself was both simple and extremely elaborate. A long, carpeted pathway up to an altar that was equally fancy. Simple in that the room served one purpose, the ordaining of the noble children's classes. So it looked very nobley. Which was to say overly expensive and decorated tackily to give the illusion of wealth and prosperity. But once Rou walked up to the altar and knelt, something happened that surprised everyone in the whole capital.

A light enveloped Rou and spread out through the entire capital briefly before vanishing.

"Was that necessary?" Creation and Aether scoffed towards Affection. "What? The dumb church insisted on spreading that he was my 'consort' without either his or my approval, so what's the harm in playing up his ceremony?"

Affection played innocent even if it annoyed Creation and Aether, but they didn't disagree. They had both been mildly annoyed at the Church's actions as well.

"How about each of you toss something in as well? Sure, the church and capital populace will be blown away, but for Rou… don't you think he'd be rather touched? After all, even if he didn't say it, I can tell, this is rather special to him. Being able to come with his parents and Millet, feeling like he had betrayed them for taking time away raising him and now they have a chance again."

Neither Creation nor Aether could deny it. Even if they both grumbled at Rou from time to time, he wasn't unpleasant to be around and he did mean well.

Thus it was the first time in documented history that a certain event happened. While occasionally someone would receive a 'blessing' from a god in that their respective statuette in the altar area would raise up and set itself upon the altar from the shelves behind, but this time… it wasn't just one statuette that graced the top of the altar and reflected in the air above the church temple.

It was all of them.

Rou didn't quite realize what that meant of course, not being of this world, but his parents and even Millet looked a bit weak-kneed. What was going on? They all knew the rumors of one statuette, let alone… seemingly all of them?

Affection was quite smug at the moment.

But what appeared for everyone in the room was

A screen with completely unreadable, garbled text.

???

Everyone was confused only to realize, oh right, the screen system was disabled at the moment because of Aether doing changes.

One moment.

Class Gained - Heaven's Fisherman

Everyone in the room was terribly confused. Fisherman? Rou didn't even like fishing, he hated the way fish slime felt on his fingertips! They'd all tried to go fishing a while back and found it funny how prissy he was!

But Rou? He actually almost barked out in laughter as he realized the implication of what the class was, only for the screen to pop up again.

Second Class Gained - Multifaceted Martial Saint

"Affection, what nonsense is that second class you just gave him?"

Aether looked at Affection in confusion. That most certainly was not a preexisting class, especially one she'd approved.

"Oh, just something I thought up that I thought he would appreciate. We can work out the details eventually. He just… hm, how to explain. In the world he came from, there were heroic tales of swords and magic and all that and he grew up idolizing certain characters from those tales. Several of them used multiple weapons at the same time as well as magic. It's harmless, let him have his fun. After all, he has a chance at a second life, why not?"

"Mm… sure." Creation agreed, leaving Aether to sigh. "You dote on her too much."

“Besides, knowing him, he’ll probably come up here before long super excited and wanting to show off what he got. I mean, I know I can feel it because he and I are sharing senses, but surely you can tell, too, just how purely happy he is? There’s no harm in making somebody happy.”

Rou, though, was thrilled. He hadn't quite realized Affection had set up this class specifically for him and if she had her way, he never would find out.

The Church was a bit in a tizzy at the moment as was the populace, having seen reflections of the idols in the light for a moment. The Royal Family was in a panic, wondering who that was and what was happening, though Penelope was staring out the window, wrapped in the blanket Rou had given her, smiling knowingly as if she suspected it was him.

"I swear if that fuckin' brat went off and got himself a class that tools around with some stupid damn dual wieldin' two swords–"

"Heaven's Fisherman?" his mother asked, Rou finally standing up and trying to think of a way to explain that doesn't actually say too much. "Let's just say there is a divine carp of sorts that is causing problems for the Gods and has eluded them forever. And I suggested something about trying to simply fish it up and I think they're having a laugh at me."

Of course, he knew very well they weren't laughing at him. It was a stated expectation. He opened his mouth and made such a claim, so they were going to remind him that they held stock in promises.
