The First Trial

The First Trial

Are those things really goblins? They look familiar for some reason...

The farming tool broke from the pressure applied by the door before closing.

"What... did you see?" Asked one of people wich couldn't see because they were too far away from the entrance.

"There were... Strange green figures near a deadly trap, bleeding from their eyes..." Said baldie.

"So the trial for this floor is to kill those creatures and avoid the trap." said the black haired girl.

"It will be much easier because they are already injured." Continued the girl.

"Do you even have some emotions in you?" Asked baldie, surprised that she had the same empity expression all the time.

"Obviously i do, it's just that i don't show them." Responded the girl.

We decided to form a group of people who looked strong and gave them the farming tools as weapons. There were 10 farming tools in total so 10 of us would have been challenging the Trial.

Since i don't look neither strong nor weak i expected to not get chosen, but here i am, standing in front of the entrance with a hoe in my hands.

All the people that were going to challenge the Trial were villagers, except for me, baldie and for some reason the girl in school uniform.

"My name is Adam Cray, nice to meet you!" Said baldie as he walked towards me.

"My name is Shirayuki Mia." Said the girl, introducing herself.

"Ooh, are you japanese?" Asked baldie.

"Yes, i am from Japan." Responded the girl, with a cold voice.

"What's your name?" Asked the girl while looking at me.

"My name is Ray Amond."

After we were done with the introductions us challengers were standing in front of the entrance while the rest went back inside the starting floor.

Baldie opened the door and we entered the room while staying away from the spike trap.

I looked at the corner of the room and noticed a small, glass pearl on the ground.

The author's content has been appropriated; report any instances of this story on Amazon.

I had a strong feeling to pick it up, but, as soon as i did, the pearl started emitting a white light in the direction i was facing.

"Ray?! What's that pearl??" Asked baldie, alerted by the sudden light since we were in a really dark room.

"I don't know, i found it on the ground and had a feeling to pick it up" i responded.

"Don't just do things based on hunches!! Be careful next time." Said one of the villagers, trying to warn me.

We continued walking in the dark room for a while...

"..."

*Kraa!!*

We heard a strange noise from behind us, i quickly turned around and lit up the area with the pearl.

There was a goblin with a wooden bat, about to attack one of the villagers from behind.

"Dodge!!" Said baldie, warning the villager targeted by the goblin, but it was too late, the attack had already reached the villager...

*Hit*

What? Did the goblin just hit the ground??

It turned out that the gobling was blind because of his bleeding eyes and he was attacking based on his smelling and hearing sense.

I ran towards the gobling and hit his head with the farming tool. It pierced through the skull, killing the goblin instantly.

As i take the weapon out of the skull, the goblin fell on the ground, dead.

Everyone was kind of nauseus and a bit scared, but we continued to explore the floor anyway.

"Thanks, Ray..." Said the villager that was targeted by the goblin.

I didn't do anything since the goblin himself missed, but i didn't say anything.

A few minutes later baldie found a jade green bracelet with a strange pattern on the ground.

"What's this, a bracelet?" Said baldie while picking it up.

As soon as he picked it up, the bracelet emitted a dim green light.

"Ooh, what's this?? I feel my legs full of strenght!" Said baldie while looking at the bracelet, intrigued.

He jumped, but ended up almost hitting the cieling.

"How is this possible?! Is it because of this wierd bracelet??" Said baldie, shocked by the power of the bracelet.

"I wonder if there are more things like that" said Mia while looking at the green bracelet.

"Isn't that an ancient artifact?!" Esclamated one of the villagers with an amazed expression on his face.

"Ancient artifact? What's that?" Asked baldie, confused.

"Do you really not know?! The Empire discorvered them in the Dungeons that appeared all over the world 200 years ago! Everyone knows about them! Even though people like us have never seen one before..." Responded the villager.

"Dungeons? Empire? Just what the hell are you talking about... You even said something about magic before..." Asked baldie, even more confused than before.

"What? Do you really not know about magic and the fallen Empire...? Just where are you from?" Asked the villager, shocked and confused.

Empire... Dungeons... Why the hell does everything sound so familiar but i can't remember anything! it's so frustrating!

*Kraa!*

The other goblin appeared.

Like the other one, he attacked as soon as he 'saw' us, but this time, instead of missing, it managed to hit the leg of one of the villagers.

"AAAGH" The villager fell on the ground, screaming in pain.

The goblin was about to attack again, but Mia threw the rake at him and cut through its neck.

It started bleeding and tried to escape, but died shortly after.

Wow, now i get why she's here with us and not waiting in the starting floor like the others.

"Are you okay?!" Asked baldie as he rushed towards the injured villager.

*Yeah, i'm fine. The goblin just hit where the nerves are. I can walk, but running is a bit..." Explained the villager as he got up from the ground.

"It's good enough that you're fine, now let's find this damned door!" Esclamated baldie.

"Nice throw there." I said to Mia.

"It wasn't much." She responded.

"Hey i found it!" Shouted a villager while waving at us with his hand.

"Nice!" Esclamated baldie.

It seems like the doors are all situated in the same spot in every floor.

Even after looking around we didn't find that guy's body...

As we opened the door the torches on the walls lit up the room, now we could finally see without the help of the pearl.

I turned around and see everyone staring at something, shocked.

There were 5 human skeletons and the body of the guy who entered before, piled up in the corner opposite to where the door was.

Those skeletons were probably people that went through the trials when the tower was created...

"..." Everyone looked a little nauseus and shocked at the sight of that, except for Mia and me for some reason.

After a while, they recovered and hid the body under the skeletons so that the others wouldn't see it.

Then, we went downstairs and told the others that it is now safe to enter the room.

They opened the door and entered, but, luckly, the trap didn't activate.

It seems that if a Floor's Trial is cleared, all the traps in the floor related to it deactivate.

I wonder if the next Trials will be even worse...

Chapter 3 -End.
