AUTHOR'S Note - Yes hello, this is my first attempt at publishing a work online, I would be very grateful for any constructive criticism and ask that you judge fairly... and enjoy.
P.S. "" = talking out loud, whilst [] = the MC's thoughts.
"Ahh...", Henry let out a sigh as he leaned back at his desk.
Brushing the sweat from his forehead, he turned to look at the clock showing it was fifteen minutes till the end of class. The class having basically finished but unable to be let out yet as it was against school policy, everyone was chatting quietly with the people around them.
But they were all talking about the same topic, a new game called Outrage: Total Realism, as today is the day when the servers come online, because almost all purchases are made online nowadays everyone who owned a VR headset could buy all the games they want online.
Some people were saying things like "OMG, I cant believe that its starting today!" and
"So, what kind of character are you going to make?" to which his friend replied "dude, no question I'm going to be a Knight.", obviously all important discussions which couldn't help but bring a light smile to Henry's face.
[Are these guys idiots or what? don't they know that Outrage doesn't have the standardized classes of other MMO's?]
Just then the bell rang which signaled the end of the school day, pushing out my chair grabbing my books and heading to the door, filing out into the rest of the school, and winding his way home though the main streets.
The sound of a blasting air conditioner greeted him as he opened the door telling him that his sister and mother were already home.
"Hey, how was your day at uni?"
called his mother from the living room.
"Same as ever, but anyway I'm going to go relax for a while."
He answered making his way upstairs, already planning on taking a quick shower before jumping into Outrage's character creation before the servers officially open.
Ten minutes later, he'd taken a shower and got ready to put on the VR headset, lying down on the bed and getting comfortable.
Welcome, to OutRage: Total Realism.
These words appeared before his eyes as the world went dark and he found himself floating alone, when suddenly his feet found solid ground and found himself face to face with a colourful swirling ball of light about the size of his head.
The narrative has been illicitly obtained; should you discover it on Amazon, report the violation.
"Ehh? when will you guys stop coming, I mean seriously I lost count after the first few million..."
Announced the swirling ball of light, as it bobbed around inspecting the new arrival.
[what the hell? Is this a GM or something?]
"can I make my character now or... What?"
As Henry didn't really know what to expect, he decided it would be best to try and get back on track.
"hmm, sure but first fill out these forms and then we can get started."
A stack of about fifty pieces of paper appeared in Henry's hands, as he stared at it with a dumbfounded look he couldn't help but say,
"isn't this a game?! why the f*** do i have to fill out paperwork?!"
Which wasn't really the best thing to come out of his mouth, as this particular ball of light had had a really bad day listening to idiotic kids all complaining about having to fill out forms and whining about their hand cramps.
So the ball of light did as most would when at the end of their patience, punched their problem in the face.
How did a non-physical ball of light punch someone in the face you ask?
It's quite simple really, the ball of light rushed in front of Henry's face and continued on through it, not even hurting him in the slightest which only seemed to enrage him further as he continued to rush through Henry's head for the next two minutes.
After a fruitless two minutes of attack, the ball of light seemed to shrink a little and hovered low near the floor. Now during these two minutes Henry was really confused and then a little sympathetic to this ball of light as he proceeded to fill out the forms, which stated that BlackMarsh Entertainment is in no way liable to any and all forms of physical and mental harm you come to by playing this game, as this is your conscious decision to play it accepting any and all responsibility to your own safety.
[this is seriously scaring the S*** out of me, what do they mean by physical and mental harm?!]
"Hey, light ball guy? what does it mean by physical and mental harm I mean its not like I can get hurt playing a video game?"
As if bringing the light ball out of its stupor, it went back to its original size and floated over saying, "actually because the game is set such a high level of realism there are no pain filters, and basically no systems in place other then town guards and NPC's to stop other players from murdering, raping and or doing anything they want."
Hearing this he felt cold spikes prickling his spine, as the blood drained from his face.
