S2E3: The Father Knows Best

—The Father Knows Best—

-Season 2, Episode 3-

-Dimension 2 (Reset)-

Hard Reset-

North Reach, 2016-

Lucy looks out over the massive crater where North Reach once stood, the calmness of the surrounding area a stark contrast to the apocalypse she just left behind. Rev, Jack, Liz, Abigail, and Brady all lie beside her, unconscious. Kane is a good distance away, but Lucy can make out his black jacket and blonde hair among the green grass. Everyone rises from their sleep, one at a time. Rev is the first one up, looking out over the wasteland surrounding North Reach. “I can’t believe that happened…” Rev says looking towards the crater. “I don’t even know how that happened,” Abigail says, rubbing the back of her head in confusion. Lucy walks up to her and without saying anything hugs her tightly. “What’s up, Lucy? You okay?” She asks worried. Lucy silently presses her hand on Abigail’s forehead, and she projects her memories into Abigail’s mind. North Reach. Washington DC. London. Wolfrun. Abigail’s eventual death at the hands of the NRV. She lets go, and Abigail’s eyes widen. She turns and draws her pistol instantly setting her sights on Brady. The man’s eyes widen, fear building in his chest. “What’re you-” He starts, but Abagail doesn’t let him finish. She fires her pistol, and Brady drops dead. “WHAT THE HELL!?” Jack cries out. Abigail turns to face the others. “He was a traitor.” She tells the frightened cop. She glances over her shoulder, shouting over the soft breeze. “Kane, if you truly want to turn over a new leaf and prove that you’re not the arrogant asshole I thought you were, you need to tell us everything.” She shouts. “Spill it.” She demands, her eyes narrowed on the former Omega scientist. Kane rolls his eyes with an exaggerated sigh. “Fine. I wanted to kill everyone and everything on Earth for my own sick, twisted goals. I forced Brady to launch The Frontier into Earth, and I wanted to cause a mass outbreak across the world.” Kane says with a hint of annoyance. Jack and Rev look amazed, but Abigail and Lucy look content. “There. My heart has been spilled, Does anyone care to join me in the confessional?” Kane asks sarcastically. Abigail steps towards the crazed man. “No, Kane, we don’t. We have nothing to admit to someone like you.” She says. “Let’s go back home, we need to rest.” She says, starting the long walk to the nearest highway.

A Hard Truth-

Hanover, 2016-

“So, why do you want the job?” Abigail asks the man sitting across from her. “I wanna help protect the world!” The man says, a heavy accent causing her to tilt her head slightly. Abigail looks at him skeptically. “And you’re Irish, Mister Callahan?” She asks. “Ay, Arthur, please. I'm not a fan o’ formalities.” Arthur replies. Abigail blinks slowly. “Alright, Arthur, welcome to Division 18?” She says as if she’s asking. “It’s an honor to work with ya!” Arthur says. Lucy looks at Jack and Kane, annoyed. “You’re telling me some of your kind speak like that?” Lucy asks. Jack chuckles. “Yeah, sadly. The British are even worse.” He says. Lucy and Jack look at Kane waiting for a witty response. “Ortus est Lucifer, Infernus invadet.” He mutters, his eyes pure black. Jack looks back at Lucy in confusion. “What the fuck?” He asks, scared. Lucy looks him dead in the eyes. “Kane? You in there?” She asks. Kane’s eyes are completely black, and he’s unresponsive. “Abigail! We got a problem!” She calls out. Abigail looks up at her, noticing Kane’s strange condition. She jumps up and rushes for the door, with Arthur close behind. They enter the side room, with Abigail examining him closely. “We need to take him to the Cold Blue, He’s in trouble.” She orders quickly. The Irishman looks at her, confused. “Cold Blue?” Arthur asks. Abigail and Lucy both look to Arthur, and Abigail decides to explain it. “We have a maximum security facility deep in the bottom of the Mariana Trench. Only the worst of the worst reside down there, tucked away from good and bad alike. He’ll be safest there.” Abigail finishes. Jack looks shocked. “We have a fucking underwater prison?” He asks. Rev nods. “We went over that in orientation…” He says. “I never got orientation, asshole,” Jack responds, and Rev snickers to himself. Lucy and Abigail chuckle with them until Abigail gestures to Jack to follow her. “Come, I can give you a tour as we find a safe place for Sammy boy here.” She says, guiding the nonresponsive Kane by the shoulders. Lucy looks at Jack with a pang of jealousy. “Lucky… getting to spend time with her at the most isolated place on Earth…” She mumbles. Jack shakes his head. “Fear not, Lucy. She’s not my type.” He says with a grin. Lucy nods, her eyes glowing red. “Damn straight she’s not, Jack.” She says. Jack feels the anger burning behind him as he turns away to follow Abigail and Kane. Rev looks back at Lucy, a concerned expression painted on his face. “We need to go to Hell. I don’t know much about Latin, but I know the name ‘Lucifer’.” He says. Lucy nods. “Same, I kinda wanna see what’s up with that.” She says, leading him out of the bunker. Lucy looks over her shoulder, remembering Arthur is still just standing there. “Here, stay here and keep an eye on The Frontier.” She orders as she slowly rounds the corner of the room, exiting into the hallway.

Prisoner 18-

Cold Blue, 2016-

The waves crash violently against the hull of the submarine, rocking the small vessel back and forth violently. “You get seasick?” Abigail asks a visibly nauseous Jack. “No… Not at all…” He mutters, swallowing the vomit on the brink of erupting from his mouth. “We’re here!” The captain calls out, and Abigail stands up. “Alright, Jackie-boy, buckle up!’ She announces. She straps Kane in, and Jack looks around for a seatbelt. “Uh oh, you don’t have a seatbelt? Good luck!” Abigail taunts with a childish look in her eye. Jack looks at the floor nervously as sirens begin sounding, and he can feel the submarine tilt downward. “Ready for the dive?” Abigail asks, smirking. The submarine dives down rapidly, causing the vomit to reappear almost instantly. After a quick 45-minute dive, Abigail, Jack, and the unconscious Kane arrive at The Cold Blue facility. “Welcome to our little slice of Heaven,” Abigail says, looking out from the central watchtower. Reflections of the blue sea dance across the main floor, its beauty contrasted by the four floors of cells, each holding a human inside. “We need to simulate natural light down here, or else the prisoners start to riot. If they riot, they might break the building’s glass walls and floor. If THAT happens, well, it’ll be game over for everyone down here. It’s like an unwritten mutual agreement between staff and prisoners.” Abigail says. Jack scoffs, shaking his head in disbelief. “You sure put a lot of trust in these prisoners.” He comments. Abigail chuckles. “Well, it’s just survival of the fittest, and nothing can harm them down here except themselves.” She reasons. “If everyone is at an equal chance of dying, nobody wants to one-up each other to thrive.” She says. Jack nods and pushes the possessed Kane into cell number 18. “Heh, cell 18 for a member of Division 18. How fitting.” Jack says, smirking. “Alright, I don’t like lingering down here…” Abigail says, nervously glancing at the roof. The water dances above them, the sunlight false sunlight making it seem as if they’re closer to the surface than they really are. “Why? You scared of the water?” Jack asks. Abigail sticks out her tongue and frowns, walking back towards the submarine. “Holy shit, you are!” He laughs as he chases after her, thinking of more things to tease her about. Kane suddenly wakes up and looks around. “Where the fuck!?” he exclaims as he watches the waves crash against the glass ceiling. Abigail looks over at him. “Hey! You okay? You… hit your head pretty good during the outbreak, remember?” She asks. Kane rubs the back of his head, nodding in agreement. Jack looks at Abigail skeptically, but she waves him away. “Come on, Kane. let’s get you back to the surface. Your treatment went well down here.” She says, guiding him back towards the submarine. Kane looks lost. “But… why was I down here?” He asks. Abigail looks over at Jack for help, and he sighs. “We wanted to keep you safe, so we brought you down here while you recovered.” He says. Abigail smiles at him. “Let’s get back to the surface.” She says, leading them into the submarine.

When The Rain Falls-

Santiago, 2016-

“Doctor Atkins!” a scientist shouts. Atkins looks over at her and smiles. “It’s fine. The SW-01 cannot harm us if it’s properly contained.” He says reassuringly. She shakes her head. “I don’t like this…” She replies. Atkins walks over and rests a hand on her shoulder. “Relax, dear. This stuff can’t escape unless-” He’s cut off by the sound of gunfire in another part of the facility. “Fuck. Omega’s here.” He says, grabbing a pistol from the counter behind him. The other scientist grows worried. “Those don’t sound like Americans…” She says. Several soldiers burst into the room, bearing a sigil reminiscent of the Soviet emblem. The hammer and sickle are covered partially by the letters ‘R.R.U’ and some Russian text underneath. Atkins looks at it, his eyes widening as he reads. “Forwarding Our Future… shit,” he says, realizing who this is. “Give us SW-01.” one of the soldiers says with a heavy Russian accent. Atkins shakes his head. “Fuck no. Take my dick back to Mikhail and shove it up his ASS!” he shouts, and one of the soldiers kills the other scientist. “FUCK!” Atkins shouts in response, and one of the soldiers takes off his helmet. “Do you know who I am?” He asks, his accent hanging heavy in the silence. Atkins glares at him. “Am I supposed to?” He responds. The soldier smiles. “No. But you will. Vladimir Reznov will be remembered in the history books. GATHER THE WATER!” Reznov shouts. The soldiers begin their work, throwing notes and computers into large duffel bags. Atkins glares at Reznov and the Russian notices. “Sadly, we can not let you go. We need you to do something for us.” He says. He grabs Atkins by the arms and ties a zip tie around them, forcing him to his feet. “Come along, now,” he says. Atkins looks back as the soldiers break the glass containing the SW-01, and it floods the room. Reznov seals the door as the other scientists are infected, attempting to kill themselves as quickly as they can. Reznov smirks. “Sucide Water. Wonderful creation, Doctor,” he says, dragging Atkins out of the building. He watches silently as alarms begin sounding around the Division 18 facility, and water begins to seep out of the foundation of the building. Reznov throws him onto a helicopter, right next to a large canister bearing the RRU emblem. “Now, detonate the nuke and wipe this town off the map.” Reznov orders as the helicopter takes off. Atkins sits in shock as the heat from the bomb washes over him, as they fly away from the small town.

Hellbound-

Saint Louis, 2016-

Lucy takes a deep breath as they approach the Arch, memories of first meeting Harold Bright flooding her mind like a virus. “So you really think this is him?” She asks Rev as they march onward in an attempt to take her mind off of it. “Yeah, he was an Archangel and was Lucifer, so I think that was Lucifer,” Rev says. Suddenly, footsteps rushing up behind them trigger her fight or flight. She draws her shotgun from her side, aiming the barrel directly at Liz’s head. She looks at Lucy, fear in her eyes like a deer in headlights. Lucy sighs, lowering the gun. Liz exhales in relief and walks over to Rev. She taps him on the shoulder, and Rev sighs in annoyance. “So, if Hell and Lucifer are real, does that mean Heaven and Angels exist?” She asks. Lucy nods. “Yeah. but they’re so preoccupied with their own bullshit they leave the losers like us to play in the mud alone.” She says. Rev scoffs. “My, someone’s bitter,” He remarks. Lucy chuckles in response. “Well, I AM a Demon, after all. I’m not a pretentious, cock sucking, dick-licking fucking Angel.” She says angrily. They arrive at the Arch, and Lucy spills her own blood with a small dagger. Red lightning strikes the Arch, and the Hell gate opens wide for her. “Ready?” Rev asks Liz. Liz nods, and the trio walks through.

Entering Hell, the heat from the Dimension of The Damned blasts Rev’s hair back. “Smell that air!” Lucy exclaims, spinning around with her arms outstretched. Liz wafts the air away from her nose in disgust. “What the fuck is this?” She asks. Rev glares at Lucy, her spinning kicking up dust from the red soil. “Bodies. Demon and Human corpses ground up into dust after eons or decay.” He says coldly. Lucy stops and shrugs. “Hey, we don’t drag people here unless they deserve it!” She argues, walking over to Rev. She sticks a finger in his face, and takes a deep breath. “I don’t care if-” A screech cuts her off, and the low rumble causes them all to turn to face the bottom of the hill. Several hundred Demons charge at them, and Rev spins the cylinder of his revolver in response. He checks his pocket, feeling for the extra rounds. “Fuck… only sixteen shots… Guess I’ll use my knife!” he says, drawing his blade. Lucy nods, loading her shotgun. Liz looks between them, panicking. She takes several rapid deep breaths and rushes back for the gateway. “Wait! No!” Lucy calls after her, but it’s too late. As she exits Hell, the gateway vanishes, locking Lucy and Rev in Hell together. The Demon looks over at Rev and sighs. “Well, guess we’re on our own!” She says, charging at the horde. Rev nods, cocking back the hammer on his revolver. “Guess so!” he calls out in response, joining Lucy in the fight.

Legend Of The Hellwalker-

Azureth, 2016-

Lucy and Rev charge at the horde of Demons, their screams piercing the air around them. Lucy shoots a Demon in the chest, and he flies back into the crowd. Rev joins her, stabbing a Demon in the head. One of the claws at his head, scratching his face. He responds by kicking them in the chest, stomping down on their neck to kill them. He turns to face Lucy, who’s vanished completely. He shrugs, turning back to another Demon. It charges at him, stabbing him in the stomach. Rev raises his revolver to the Demon’s chin, and he smiles at them before blowing their head clean off. Another Demon stabs Rev in the thigh, and at this point, Rev is seeing red. He screams in rage, and the rest of the fight is a blur. After a short time, he regains concise, and he’s aiming his revolver at Lucy’s head. The barrel rests between her eyes, and the red glow reflects off the silver finish of his gun. “Go on, pussy! Do it!” She shouts. Rev snaps awake and quickly lowers the gun. “Sorry… I just… saw red. Fought until there was nothing left to fight…” He says, shaking his head. Lucy glares at him, her eyes fizzling out as she calms down. “Whatever. Just watch where you point that thing, would ya?” She asks. Rev nods, a loud whoosh flying overhead. A hint of red and gold catches Rev’s eye, and he remembers Lucifer. “He’s here.” He says bluntly, his face contorting into a snarl. Lucy looks up at him, and the fallen Archangel stops. “REV! Lookie at you!” he says. He lands in front of Lucy, smiling. “I haven’t seen you in forever… when was that? Jericho? 2005?” he asks. Lucy just stares at him. “What the fuck are you talking about? We’ve never met?” She asks again. Lucifer looks at her sadly. “I… never? Not even before I looked like this?” He asks. Lucy shakes her head. “Nope. never.” She says. Lucifer looks around as if he’s being watched. “...Watch out for The Director. Do not go to Elysium, and don’t take Abigail… don’t let him-” He’s cut off by debris falling in the distance. “Fuck… She’s here. Eris is here. Listen to me, I need you to listen closely!” Lucifer says. Rev slowly circles around him, checking the amount of bullets in his gun. One shot. He smirks, creeping up behind Lucifer. “Several years from now, after you lose many, many people, you’ll find the true mastermind. The puppetmaster… He’ll take something from you, but it won’t be permanent. He’s planning to do something evil.” He says. Lucy looks at him, listening intently. She nods. “How do you know this? You work for him?” She asks. Lucifer looks upwards, scanning for anyone watching him. “Because… how do I put this… I’m-” Rev fires his revolver, killing the Archangel. Lucifer falls limp, his body catching on fire as he slumps against the red dust. “WHY THE FUCK DID YOU DO THAT!?” Lucy screams at Rev, her eyes flaring up red again. Rev glares down at her. “I don’t like your tone, Ma’am,” he says. Lucy glares up at him, enraged. Rev smirks. “What? Gonna go full Demon mode on me? Rip me to shreds? I just killed LUCIFER! THE Demon! Someone like you can’t do anything to someone like ME!” Rev says, grinning smugly. Lucy just glares at him in silence. Her eyes glow brightly, and black wings materialize behind her, spreading wide. Rev smiles at them and looks her in the eyes. Silently, he loads another six shots into his revolver. “Let’s do this, then.” He says, and Lucy at him, her knife drawn.

Angel Of Death-

Azureth, 2016-

Lucy slashes at The Hellwalker, slicing part of his coat open. He smiles, kicking her in the chest. She flies into a wall, slamming her head into the stone bricks. Rev slowly strolls over and grabs her good horn, yanking her head back so she’s looking at him upside down. A piece of cold metal presses against Lucy’s neck, the cold contrasted by the warm breath on the top of her head. “Know what that is?” Rev asks. Lucy growls at him, her eyes almost blinding him. He snickers and backs away. “It’s Oblivion, for you. Limbo. Purgatory. Wherever you Demonic fucks go when you finally bite the dust…” He says, his eyes shining in the darkness. Lucy suddenly pushes against him, knocking him to the ground. She lunges into the air, and she flaps her ethereal wings. “Rev Finnegan. Enough of these fucking games!” She calls out, her teeth snarling against her lips. Rev looks up at her and laughs maniacally. “Get down from there before you hurt yourself!” he shouts, aiming his revolver at her. One of the bullets clips her arm, and she cries out in pain. She falls to the ground, and Rev quickly jogs over. He aims the revolver at her head, and smirks. “Do you yield?” He asks. Lucy looks up at him, the barrel blocking her partially. “Fuck yourself.” She replies. Rev smiles, but before he’s able to shoot, someone slams into his side. Lucy looks over, and a woman with long brown hair stands over Rev, an assault rifle aimed at his head. “Stand down, Rev. I don’t know what the fuck got into you, but you’re going to snap out of it. Or never wake up again.” She says. Lucy squints at her, but before she can figure out who it is, she passes out.

“Hey! You okay!?” A voice calls out to Lucy from the darkness. She opens her eyes to find Abigail staring down at her, a look of worry spread on her face. She groans and sits up. “Y-Yeah, I’m fine… Rev and I got into a little scuffle… that’s all.” She says, getting helped to her feet by Abigail. Lucy looks over at Rev, who’s standing nearby with his head looking down to the ground. Abigail sighs and looks around for any threats. Lucy walks over to him and holds her hand under his chin. The hair on his chin tickles, but she keeps her straight face. She looks into his eyes, her red meeting his green. “What the hell was that!?” She demands angrily. Rev takes a deep breath. “I…I don’t know. I killed Lucifer, and this feeling washed over me. It was as if I was entranced, forced to feel euphoria… I’m sorry I hurt you. I seriously didn’t mean to.” He says, looking into Lucy’s eyes. She scans his green eyes, peering into his soul to figure out whether he’s lying or not. She decides to hug him, and she can feel him physically relax. He meant it, even if he sucks at conveying it. “It’s fine, Rev. Just don’t try to kill me AGAIN, okay?” She asks. Rev nods. “Okay.” He responds. She smiles as the duo follows Abigail back to the small rift she made to find them, escaping Hell and returning to Saint Louis.

Invasion Of The Hayka-

Hayka Space Station, 2016-

The cold halls send a shiver down Jack’s spine, and the view of the darkness of space causes goosebumps to rise on his skin. Suddenly, a hand slaps his back. He turns to find Kane smirking at him. “Easy up, Jackie. We can handle this. This is nothing compared to North Reach… just a little space station.” Kane says, reassuring him. Liz brushes up against him too. “Yep. Just gotta sneak around and gather info on the Russians stealing our SW-01, or whatever.” She adds. Jack swallows his fear and presses on. He looks between the two walking beside him. “Liz, didn’t you go to Hell with Rev and Lucy?” Jack asks. Liz shrugs. “I got scared and ran. Nothing wrong with running.” She says. “So, this Hayka… What’s it mean?” Kane asks aloud, interrupting the two’s conversation. Jack shrugs, and Liz perks up. “I’m glad you brought me too, I can actually speak Russian.” She says. “Funny enough, Hayka means ‘Science’. Very on the nose of them.” She says matter-of-factly. Kane sighs, rolling his eyes. “Great. We’re dealing with some funny guys.” He moans. Jack chuckles. “It’s a little funny, actually. They name their space station ‘Science’ yet they have to steal our shit. Really doing their own science, huh?” He asks with a chuckle. “It is not so funny.” A deep voice says, speaking in a heavy Russian accent. “You take it from us. We take it back. Simple.” He says. A man with a long beard and a white lab coat emerges from the shadows. His dark red button-up and black pants complement his demeanor. He takes several methodical steps towards the trio. Liz holds a hand up to stop Jack and Kane and walks up to the man with her hand on her pistol. “Listen, Commie, you shouldn’t even be up here, the United Nations said only Division 18 can have orbital space stations, so if we were to go back and report you, you’d be fucked!” She says. “I am Doctor Vladimir Reznov. I am head of the Russian Research Unit. You do not speak to me that way on my station.” Reznov says. He looks Liz up and down. “Plus, you are not good subject.” He says. He snaps, and a gunshot erupts from the dark corner behind him. Liz falls to the floor, blood pooling from her chest. “LIZ, NO!” Jack screams, reaching for his gun. Kane grabs his arm. “Dude’s got hidden snipers, wait a second!” Kane whispers aggressively. “You do well to listen to your comrade,” Reznov says. He draws a pistol from behind his back. “You both make good subjects. Drop your firearms, kick them to me.” He instructs. Kane looks worriedly at Jack, dropping his pistol. Jack sighs but feels someone grab his gun from his holster. Kane fires at Reznov, hitting his shoulder. Reznov just stands up, holding the bleeding wound and shaking his head. “You are brave. I like it. You have one more chance to surrender.” He says sternly. Kane sighs and tosses Jack’s gun over to the Russian. “Very good. Knock them unconscious.” Reznov instructs the shadows around him, and Jack’s vision instantly blacks out. Liz, clinging to life, crawls across the floor toward one of the ejection pods she spotted earlier. “Gotta… let someone know… about this station…” She says weakly. She slaps the ejection button, and the pod in front of her ejects towards the Earth. She falls silent as the blood loss claims her.

The Russian Research Unit-

Moscow, 2016-

Jack wakes up in a dark, sterile room. “Kane?” He calls out weakly. “Huh?” A voice mutters back as if he just woke up. In the darkness, Jack and make out the shape of Kane’s hair and shoulders sitting up slowly. “J-Jack? That you?” he asks slowly. Jack smiles. “Uh huh, still kicking…” Jack stands up slowly, his head ringing and his vision fading in and out. “The fuck did they do to us…?” He asks aloud. Kane grunts and hops up, slowly shuffling towards Jack. “Something in my head… Feel like shit…” Kane mutters. In the dim light, Jack can see Kane has a massive scar on his forehead, almost like a zipper holding his head closed. The overhead lights power on, blinding both Jack and Kane. The door to the room opens, and Reznov steps inside slowly. “Good. Our guests have slept well and awoken without issue.” He says. Jack can see a sadistic smile form under his surgical mask. “9. 12. 20. 37.” The Russian says loudly. Jack’s ears begin ringing, and his vision goes red. The inhuman urge to spill blood overwhelms him, and He grabs Kane’s throat and squeezes as hard as he can. Kane starts slamming his elbow into Jack’s arms, eventually causing him to let go of Kane’s neck. He crawls away from Jack and is pinned against a wall. Jack towers over Kane, the ringing getting louder. He can feel warm blood protruding from the wound he has on his head as he slowly walks toward the cowering Kane. Reznov whistles, and tosses Jack a metal pipe. He catches it and turns towards Kane, raising the pipe high above his head. Right as he’s about to swing down, Reznov whistles again. Jack turns, looking at the Russian like a dog awaiting orders. “37. 20. 12. 9.” He says, and the ringing in Jack’s ears stops. He looks down at Kane and backs away slowly. He drops the pipe and falls to the floor, slowly contorting into the fetal position. “What did you fucking do to me…?” he demands shakily. Reznov laughs, turning towards the door. “You are now the proud owner of Russian Research Unit weapon. Enjoy it.” he says, exiting the room. The overhead light shuts off with a dull thud, and the darkness retakes them. Jack and Kane are left alone wondering when either of them will snap again.

Cold Blue Sea-

Cold Blue, 2017-

“So why the fuck are we here again?” Lucy whines, the waves crashing above them through the glass. Rev shakes his head in annoyance. “We’re here for Doctor Michael Atkins, he was the head of Abigail’s SW-01 research. Apparently, a pod bearing the Russian Research Unit emblem crashed somewhere in America, Wyoming I think. He’d know why they had OUR Suicide Water.” Rev explains. Lucy sighs, looking around at the dark and isolated prison. “Could be worse, ‘least it was just a town and not yer whole country,” Arthur says in an attempt to make her feel better. Lucy glares at him over her shoulder. “I’m sorry, but I REALLY don’t like how you talk.” Arthur frowns, looking towards the ground. “And I thought we had somethin’ nice here.” He mutters. Rev looks back at the other two. “Lucy, be nice to him. He’s new here, at least treat him like a rookie and not some third-world monster.” He scolds. Lucy looks back at Arthur, who’s now looking at her like a puppy after being scolded. “Alright, fine. I’m sorry fer talkin’ to yeh that whey.” She says, mocking him with a smirk. Arthur chuckles. “That’s a bit funny, actually.” He says smiling. Lucy shakes her head as they approach the cell block containing the doctor. “Alright, there he is. Doctor Michael Atkins, prisoner 17.” Rev says, looking at a long list of cell numbers on the wall. Lucy steps ahead, holding her arm out across Rev’s chest. “Relax, I got this.” She says. She slightly jogs down the row of cells, peeking inside each. “FOUND HIM!” She calls out. She turns back and sees that Arthur’s been knocked unconscious, and Rev’s missing. “REV!?” She cries out, attempting to turn to rush to the entrance of the cell clock. A hand grabs her arm, stopping her. “Adam. Adam did this.” Atkins mutters. Lucy turns to face him, smacking his arm away. “Adam? Who the fuck is Adam?” She demands. Atkins sighs. “Let me out, and I’ll tell you.” He bargains. Lucy looks back at Arthur, and back to Atkins. “Fine, make it quick and we’ll go.” She says, opening the cell door. Atkins dusts himself off, stepping out into the light. “Adam. Russell Adam, leader of this stupid doomsday cult out in Paradise, Arizona. I only know of his bullshit because he… bought me from the Russians. They nuked Santiago, not me! Those damn Russians took me, and Father Adam bought me like a slave! He turned me over to you guys, claiming I was a traitor!” Atkins explains. Lucy shakes her head. “No… I don’t care about that. Where the fuck did you say he took Rev?” She demands. Atkins looks over at Arthur, who’s slowly sitting up. “Paradise, Arizona. That’s where his stronghold is.” He says. Arthur walks over, rubbing the back of his neck. “Arizona, eh? Fock me… sounds hot as Hell out there…” He says. Lucy rolls her eyes. “Yeah, let’s go and find Rev before something bad happens to him.” She says, grabbing Arthur by the arm and running down the cell block with him. Atkins returns to his cell, but the door doesn’t close. He looks up at the water and smiles.

Unholy Leader-

Paradise, 2017-

“Awaken, awaken, eggs, and bacon.” A man says coyly, waking Rev from his deep sleep. He slowly opens his eyes to find a man with long, curly hair and a black and brown trench coat looking at him. He’s dressed like a preacher under the coat, with a radiation mask hanging from around his belt. “Good morning, sunshine. Sleep well?” He asks. Rev looks around, scanning his surroundings for Lucy or Arthur. “Relax, I didn’t take your Irish friend. Or that Demon, not that I’d want her anyways.” He says softly. Rev looks the man in the eyes, the deep emerald green staring back at him. “Who’re you? What do you want from me?” Rev asks. The man smiles softly. “What do I want? I want world peace, like all the others. I want this country to grow into a wonderful place, like a phoenix. A paragon of beauty and grace, capable of accepting the end for what it is: A new beginning.” He says. The man walks over and stands in front of Rev. “I am Father Russell Adam, proud leader of The Church of Phoenix, now reformed into The New Horizons.” Father Adam says proudly, bowing slightly as he introduces himself. Rev looks at him confused. “Phoenix rise from the ashes, right? The fuck do you mean, America as a phoenix?” He asks. Father Adam chuckles. “Foolish, insolent child. Roswell.” He says, gesturing towards a screen in front of the duo. The screen snaps on, and a map of the United States is shown. Roswell, New Mexico is marked with a star to signify its importance. Lines stretch across the map from Roswell to major cities across the United States. Wolfrun, Chicago, New York, Los Angeles, North Reach, Washington DC, Seattle. All are targets for whatever Father Adam plans to use Roswell for. “Like a phoenix, America will burn. A painful death, to be sure, but one that will make an impact. Rising from its ashes, a New America will be born. One that only knows peace, if only by being beaten with it. This world will see peace before I die, rest assured.” Father Adam says. Rev’s eyes go wide, realizing what Roswell holds. “You can’t use them! You’d kill millions! Those missiles are meant for outbreaks!” He screams. Father Adam paces around the room slowly, his fingers resting on his chin as he thinks. “I’ve atoned for my sins, I acknowledge I will be judged for murder, but was Eve judged for biting the apple? Was she tried for her sins? Why should I fear doing what will save the lives of billions down the road? Look at what Eve’s sin created! Humanity! What am I but another incarnation of Eve herself!?” Father Adam asks. He walks over to Rev, bending down slightly to get in his face. “What was the death toll for Wolfrun? Hmm? I know it. 174,823 people. Wiped out because of Division 18’s inability to stop Omega. How many innocent souls were lost in North Reach? 2,287,962 souls were taken prematurely, without warning. All because of Division 18. When I launch the Minerva Warheads, I will at least warn people as they launch. I will instruct my disciples to sound the sirens when the missiles launch, giving them ample time before the strike. They will have warning to reunite with loved ones. Time to pray for forgiveness for their sins. Time to accept. More time than in Wolfrun. North Reach. More time than Division 18 offered.” Father Adam says to a panicking Rev. “You’re fucking insane! BATSHIT INSANE!” Rev screams, attempting to pull himself out of his restraints. Father Adam chuckles, turning away from the Hellwalker. “Perhaps. Yet Jesus was seen as a traitor, and Noah a fool. I am no different.” He says, walking towards the door. “You’ll come around, Hellwalker. I know you will.” He says, closing the door behind him gently. Rev takes deep breaths, slowly twisting his hand to try and widen the gap between the leather strap and his flesh. He takes a deep breath and yanks his arm in a way to break his wrist. He gasps in pain and grits his teeth. He slips his broken hand through the leather strap, loosening the other strap that's binding his good hand. He reaches his watch up to his mouth, tuning the radio to Division 18’s frequency. “Lucy? Abigail? We have a situation… Trace my signal, please. Someone’s found out about the Minerva Warheads…” He says frantically, as his nerves are still shaken. Father Adam re-enters the room and claps his hands together. “Ah, of course. Do you plan to bring Doctor Abigail Bright and Lucy Daemon to my base?” He asks. He approaches and rips the watch off his Rev’s wrist. “Hello? Does anyone copy? This is Father Russell Adam, of The Church of New Horizons. I am waiting for you with Rev Finnegan in Paradise, New Mexico.” He says, dropping the watch on the floor. He stomps down on it, and it shatters with a crunch. Father Adam looks back at Rev. “there. I have no wish to keep you locked up here. When they come, I will release you to them. Consider what I said earlier, and when the time comes, you’ll decide.” He says, walking over to Rev with a needle and hammer. “Now, my dear Russian friend showed me a trick to ensure my disciples are loyal. Hold still, this will only hurt for a moment. Soon, you’ll be among the strongest shepherds of my flock. Just remember the phrase I say, and when I say it, you’ll turn into a devout Acolyte.” Rev rests his head against the chair, memorizing the cities on the screen before him. Father Adam inserts the needle into Rev’s eye, hammering down on it and saying prayers under his breath.

The Church Of New Horizons-

Paradise, 2017-

“Of course, why WOULDN’T the dumbfuck be locked away by a cult in the middle of the fucking desert…” Lucy whines. “Ya sure do whine a lot, dontcha?” Arthur says, and Lucy glares at him. Abigail giggles, and Lucy’s face grows red. “Shut the fuck up, Arthur.” She responds as her eyes glow red. The trio walks for a while, eventually emerging over a small hill to find a small, abandoned church sitting alone in the vast desert. “Huh, how nostalgic,” Abigail says with a grin. She takes a seat atop the dune and slides down. Arthur follows, and Lucy tries but gets her leg caught. She rolls down the dune, much to Abigail and Arthur’s enjoyment. Her face now a bright red, she storms off towards the church. “Shut the hell up, you two. Come on, let’s get this dweeb.” She mutters. Abigail and Arthur follow close behind. Once inside, they find the church derelict. “This really the place?” Abigail asks. Lucy checks her phone. “Yeah, says these are almost the exact coordinates he transmitted from…” She says. A loud bang is heard from the basement. “The fuck was that?” Lucy says, jumping. “No focking way, the Demon gets scared of loud noises?” Arthur asks, taking deep breaths as he laughs. Lucy looks at Abigail, exasperated. “Make him shut up!” She demands, pointing at Arthur. Abigail sighs. “I’m not your mommy, even though you may want me to act like it sometimes,” Abigail responds. Lucy’s face is a brighter red than ever before. “WHY WOULD YOU SAY THAT OUT LOUD!?” She shouts. Abigail rushes over and covers her mouth, looking her in her crimson eyes. Abigail’s blue eyes pierce Lucy’s gaze. “Shhhh, We don’t know if Rev’s alone in here.” She says. Lucy’s eyes shift from fear to arousal. “Do that more… make me shut up…” She whispers. Abigail rolls her eyes and looks at Arthur. “Yer lovers?” he asks. Abigail smiles. “Yeah, been that way since 2016.” She says. Arthur nods. “Well, congratulations an all. Happy for ya.” he says. He looks towards a door behind the preacher’s podium. “Maybe Rev’s behind door number 3?” He says, approaching. “Wait!” Lucy whispers aggressively. Arthur opens the door, and the stairs greet him. “Oh? He says, venturing down. Abigail and Lucy chase him and come face to face with Rev creeping towards them. He stops like a deer in headlights. “Rev?” Abigail asks. Rev’s eyebrows raise. “Yeah?” he responds, confused. “The fuck is happening?” Lucy asks. “Well, you’ve all accepted my invitation, of course.” Father Adam says, emerging from behind Rev’s chair. “Glad you all could make it, It’s an honor. Truly.” Father Adam says, bowing. Lucy charges at him, and Father Adam reveals a bowie knife. He plunges it deep into Lucy’s stomach once she reaches him, knocking her to the ground. She groans in pain as blood pours from her wound, and Abigail rushes over to tend to it. “Hang on, dear! I got you!” She exclaims, pressing down on the bleeding wound. Rev sneaks behind Father Adam, knocking him the the ground and disarming him. “Good job, Rev! Here, let me up.” Father Adam says. Surprisingly, Rev obeys and backs away from the priest. Father Adam stands up and dusts himself off with a smirk “Once again, I’m glad you all can witness my triumph as the New Horizon kicks off. Cheers!” Father Adam says. He quickly rushes up the stairs and slams the door closed. Once he’s outside, he activates a switch and a large bulkhead slams down over the cellar’s door, locking Abigail, Lucy, Arthur, and Rev under the abandoned church. “Well, fuck me.” Lucy groans. Arthur smiles. “Well that’s good, there’s that moaning and groaning yer known for.” He jokes. Lucy shoots him a death stare, and he stops smiling. “Fine, sorry,” he mutters. Rev snaps out of whatever trance Father Adam put him under, shaking his head back and forth. He’s dazed, looking around as if he was just hit in the head with a baseball. “GOD DAMN IT!” He shouts when he realizes what happened. Abigail stands up after making sure Lucy’s wound isn’t bleeding anymore. “Rev, what happened?” She demands. Rev looks down shamefully. “He said he was gonna nuke everyone unless I helped him capture you. I… I wasn’t myself. He did something to me… something in my brain. Like mind control.” He says. Abigail sighs and nods. “Fine, what’s done is done. We need to get out of here, as soon as fucking possible.” Abigail says. Arthur and Rev stand to attention, awaiting orders. “Just tell us whatcha need, boss!” Arthur says. Abigail looks at the chair Rev was strapped in before his release. “We need to throw that against the door, maybe it’ll break the door down.” She says.

Devils Amongst Men-

Los Angeles, 2017-

Reznov looks out over Los Angeles with a look of disgust spread across his face. “Why have we met here?” Reznov asks aloud. Father Adam smiles, looking out over the same city with a look of anticipation. “Because I want you to witness my cause. I want you to see I truly wish to help you.” He says. Reznov smiles. “Fair. Show me your strength.” Reznov commands. Father Adam nods and holds up a radio. “We’re ready. Launch the warhead.” He orders. “Yes, Father.” A voice on the radio says, and sirens begin sounding in the distance. A bright dot appears on the horizon, rapidly approaching the city. “Hold on, Doctor Reznov. Here it comes, the purifying flames of a new horizon.” Father Adam says, holding onto the guard rail. The missile strikes downtown Los Angeles, a large shockwave leveling the city around the mushroom cloud. The wind blows both Reznov and Father Adam’s hair back, knocking down trees and throwing cars in its wake. Reznov looks impressed. “And this nuclear weapon is NOT nuclear?” Reznov asks, intrigued. Father Adma laughs. “Of course not! How can America rise from the ash if it’s wiped out and the soil poisoned? A strong oak cannot grow in corrupt soil! He says, looking at Reznov. He turns back to the mushroom cloud forming where Los Angeles once was. “Oh, the city of Angels. May the 12 million souls rest easy amongst the Angels up in Heaven.” Father Adam says, his hands held to his chest in prayer. Reznov chuckles. “May they all rest in peace.” He says, a sinister grin spreading across his face.

Father Knows Best-

Paradise, 2017-

Rev and Arthur slam the heavy chair into the bulkhead, to no avail. “She’s not comin’ down!” Arthur exclaims, out of breath. Abigail looks around, worriedly. Her eyes fall on the map of America shown to Rev earlier. “What’s this?” She asks. Rev looks up at it and takes a deep breath. “That’s his plan to destroy America. Use Roswell to launch those bombs and wipe out the cities marked with an X.” He says. Abigail examines the cities closely. “Why is this X tilted to look like a cross?” She asks, examining Los Angeles. Rev looks a the embark, and a look of horror spreads across his face. “Purified…” he says in a low tone. Abigail’s heart sinks, and she starts to shake. Tears swell up in her eyes, and she looks away. “We… we failed… Los Angeles is…” She trails off, realizing what happened. Lucy walks over to her, resting her head on Abigail’s arm. The Doctor throws her off of her, rushing over to a nearby wall to support herself. “I.. No… No no no NO NO NO!” She screams, turning around and punching the wall with her left hand. Lucy and Rev rush over to stop her, but Abigail reaches for her gun. “Let me get this out!” She screams, slamming her fist into the wall. “12 MILLION FUCKING PEOPLE!” She shouts, the wall getting stained with blood. The sound of flesh on concrete is drowned out by the sound of bones snapping and breaking. Abigail punches and punches, her blood splattering on her face. She rips off her amulet, not allowing herself to regenerate this wound. “THIS IS MY FUCKING FAULT! I DIDN’T THINK THEY’D BE USED AGAINST US!” She shouts, resting her head against the wall. She slides down, sobbing. Lucy slowly approaches her, resting a hand on her back. Abigail sobs, nodding in permission. Lucy sits next to her, hugging her tightly. Abigail takes a shaky breath, wiping a tear from her face. “I-I didn’t… mean to hurt… anyone…” She says shakily. Arthur and Rev share a look and continue to try and open the bulkhead. Lucy sighs, holding Abigail’s shattered hand up so she can see. “You hurt yourself pretty good, dear.” She says. Abigail nods. “I know. I needed to remind myself that I’m not perfect…” She says while sniffling. Lucy smiles softly. “Let’s get you to a hospital then, dear. You’ll need to fix this to do any good around here…” She says. Abigail nods. “O-Okay…” She says quietly, the sound of her blood dripping from the shattered hand rhythmically syncing to the bashing of the chair against the metal bulkhead. Lucy nods, standing up. “Move it, boys.” She demands, her eyes glowing. She braces herself, and charges full speed a the door, slamming through it with her horns. “Holy fuck…” Rev says. Lucy chuckles and shakes her head. “Nah, try Unholy fuck. Demons are better at it than Angels, anyway.” She says. Rev chuckles, and the group helps Abigail to her feet. They rush up the stairs and out into the desert, scanning the horizon for a nearby town.

Director’s Note-

The Institute, 2017-

The Director watches from behind his desk, smiling. “A fucking non-nuclear nuke! Genius!” He exclaims. Death strolls over, her sword resting over her shoulder. “I think I’m owed something…” She says. The Director groans. “Fine. Sorry for saying this was a bad idea. This whole cult thing is fucking awesome!” He says. Death nods, bending over so she’s at eye level with him in his chair. “Never question me again. I was here long before you, and I’ll be here when you die, and even long after that.” She says coldly. The Director nods, rolling his eyes. “Yeah, yeah, I know. You should consider yourself lucky I like older women.” She says seductively, running his hand up Death’s stomach. She moans when he reaches her chest, and he squeezes. “Now, Sir, can we pick this up later? As much as I’d LOVE you to fill me up and all, I have a job to do.” She says, standing up. The Director sighs. “Yeah, yeah, I know. Los Angeles needs you. Get it done.” He orders. Death smiles. “Yes, Sir.” She says before vanishing. The Director turns back to his screen, looking out at the mushroom cloud. “Lucy, Lucy, Lucy… I don’t know what to do with you. Always the center of attention, aren't you?” he asks aloud. Eris appears in his office, her silver hair messy and her golden eyes glowing. “Sir.” She asks. The Director groans. “If this is about Michael I swear to GOD!” He shouts, turning around. She stands with another figure, one who The Director’s seen before. “You.” He says. Eris ducks out of the way, and a massive man approaches him. His silver and black hair is sharp and spiky, and the scar over his right eye unnerves The Director. His massive black and silver wings are spread wide, and his eyes glow gold. “I heard you've been mean to my lovely apprentice.” He says, his halo glowing. The Director swallows his fear. “No, Sir. Not at all.” He says. Eris looks away, and the Archangel leans over The Director’s desk. His hands rest on the surface of the desk, and they tighten in anger. “Treat her badly again, and I’ll ensure you’re not capable of forming another complete thought, let alone speaking a fucking word. Understood?” He demands. The Director nods. “Yes, Michael… sorry.” He says. Eris smiles softly, and Michael turns away. “I came here to give you something. I know you lost Metatron a while ago, and I’ve finally found you a suitable replacement.” He says over his shoulder. He snaps, and a woman appears beside him. She has shoulder-length blonde hair, and her mouth is covered by a black scarf. She wears a tight black jumpsuit, with her cleavage unzipped to lure in unsuspecting men. She has black boots on, with small spikes to ensure she never falls over. Her wings are folded neatly behind her, and her halo is glowing above her head. Her blue eyes pierce The Director, and she smiles. “Hello, Sir. I have been given to you by Michael to help you control the population.” The Angel says. Michael nods, vanishing. Eris approaches the new Angel, her wings spread wide in suspicion. “And you are…?” She asks. The Angel nods, turning to face Eris. “I am Azrael, the Angel of Temptation for Lust. And you are?” Azrael asks in return. Eris can’t help but look at her cleavage. “Eris, Michael’s apprentice and second in command to The Director.” She says, finally looking Azrael in the eyes. The Director smiles, turning back to his screen. “You two girls get to know each other and meet me back here when you’re done. I have a job for both of you to do.” He says, smirking.
