A Futile Effort

I locked the door behind me, hoping it would restrain her. My heart pounded as the footsteps slapping against the floor grew louder. Shit, I hadn’t even made it halfway out the window. The door creaked as she tried to gain access. Her tentacles grabbed me, decimating my illusion of freedom. “Nnngaah”, I moaned throwing my head backward, her tentacles wrapping further up my leg. In another lifetime this would have been a fantasy of mine; however, her squeezes increasingly became more threatening, thrusting me back into reality. If I didn’t make it out of this house, she was going to kill me.

She began to pull me towards her, I anchored myself against the window and flipped backward, when I was in just the right position I pushed the window down, causing the creature to shriek in pain and withdraw her tentacles from me. Though I also experienced discomfort, I pulled myself outside. Beyond the last cobblestone house lay a forest. I would lure her there, where Lucky and I could launch a joint attack. I jolted forward ignoring the pain, yelping Lucky’s name, hoping that he would hear my cries and rush towards the forest with me.

Trudging deeper into the forest, and realizing Lucky wasn’t coming I devised a plan of my own. I had been an avid camper in my homeworld, and was familiar with how to lure away wild animals with limited resources. I grabbed a few rocks and twigs, concealed myself in a root cave, and waited for the monster to launch her attack. Though I had been reborn in this ungodly world, my determination to survive was unwavering.
