Mia led Lily onwards, and the girls soon arrived at the small square which stood at the center of Lundin's small culture district. The theater building was there, along with the museum and the old concert hall. Mia explained that the whole district had to be rebuilt due to a fire some fifty years earlier, and Lily could definitely see the difference.
The buildings looked much simpler than the ones in the old quarter or the temple district, lacking the grandeur and monumentality of the pre-Deluge architecture.
They crossed the small square, and found themselves face to face with the doorman of the theater.
"I have two reservations for the VIP section, for me and my girlfriend here," Mia said, taking great joy in using the title in public. "Should be listed under the name Mia Dawnheart"
"Of course, my Lady," the man replied after checking his list, and handed Mia two tickets. "Take the stairs to the left and show these to the guard and he will lead you to your private booth."
They did as instructed, and a short, bearded man led them into a booth overlooking the stage. "Everything is prepared according to the instructions you sent, my Lady," he said before leaving.
As she sat down into the incredibly comfortable sofa, Lily could see the audience settling into their own seats below. Meanwhile, Mia opened the wine bottle sitting on the small table in front, pouring out a glass for both of them.
"So, what's the play about, or is that a surprise," Lily asked as Mia sat down beside her.
"It's a retelling of the legend about how the first human kingdom was founded. An ordinary girl becomes a hero and saves her tribe from a monster invasion, with some romance sprinkled in," Mia replied.
"I remember you mentioning that you used to read those kinds of stories on Earth, so I thought you'd like this one."
"It does seem like something I'll enjoy," Lily admitted. Now that she was living in one, those kinds of stories appealed to her even more.
"The main actress is very good, I had the pleasure of getting to see her perform a few years ago, when I was still studying in the capital," Mia explained as the crowd went silent and the curtains rose. "Her company is on a tour, and we are fortunate to get to see her while she's in Lundin."
The play opened with a narrator giving the background of the setting, which Lily found very helpful, although Mia made sure to chip in with details of her own. Then the main character took to the stage. She was Eliza, a hunter in a human tribe, and the play opened with her returning from a hunt to find her people under attack by some monsters.

A truly spectacular battle scene followed, with performers using the full extent of magic to bring it to life. The monsters were played by actors using illusions, and they roared in pain as they were struck down by shards of ice and rock. On the other side, the human defenders fought bravely against the odds, but more and more of them fell before the monsters onslaught, until Eliza managed to strike down the giant leading them, causing them to scatter.
Lily was awestruck by seeing the widespread use of magic for the first time, as the whole building shook around her. Talk about special effects, she thought as the scene ended. Certainly much more believable than any play or movie I saw back on Earth. Some of those injuries looked very real though.
Seeing the look of awe and worry on Lily's face, Mia just chuckled.
"Don't worry, they have great healers backstage to take care of the damage," she said to her bewildered girlfriend.
"You're telling me that all those injuries and damage were real?" Lily asked, a little shocked and Mia nodded.
"They are practiced professionals, all of them. They know exactly how many spells and skills they can safely tank, and the healers are truly excellent," she explained. "I've seen them at work, and those extras will be ready to do it again by tomorrow. It does help that ever since the Deluge, healing magic has been the strongest of all the different attunements."
"Even if that was all true, getting hit by actual fire and lightning must not be easy," Lily said, and Mia nodded.
"That's why it pays so well," she said as she took a sip of wine.
The rest of the play wasn't as spectacular, but Lily still found it very enjoyable. Eliza led her surviving tribespeople to join another tribe, where they were accepted after helping stop a raid. She earned everyone's respect by saving the chief's daughter from the evil advisor who killed the chief and tried to take over. Their marriage united the tribes, and they were crowned as the first Queens of any human Kingdom on Teras.
I can definitely see why Mia wanted to see this play with me, Lily thought as the spectacle drew to a close. There's definitely some parallels between me and the main character, and she wasn't lying when she said the actress was excellent. Her monologue when she rallied everyone against the corrupt advisor was amazing.
"Did you like it?" Mia asked as the actors took their bow on stage.
"It's a little different than what I am used to, but I enjoyed it a lot," Lily replied honestly. "Hopefully, we can do it again sometime." Mia was overjoyed to hear that, and she promised to find another opportunity, although there was no regular schedule for performances since the theater companies traveled a lot.
After the curtains closed, the girls got up to leave. Mia immediately placed a hand around Lily's waist, holding her tightly as they walked. Her touch was gentle but firm, like she was trying to make sure Lily wouldn't run away. They were directed to a separate exit, to avoid the crowd at the main door, and soon found themselves outside, in what passed for a parking lot.
It was late, to cool evening wind sending shivers down the spine, which only made Mia hugg Lily tighter. She placed her head on the taller girl's shoulder, and Lily put her own arm around her girlfriend. The carriage was not far away, but the walk seemed to take an eternity to both of them, as they fought their burning desire.
Finally when they got there, Lily swung the door open, but before she could enter, Mia pulled her in for a deep kiss. She must be even hornier than me, a small corner of Lilly's mind still capable of rational thought noted. Makes sense too, I was absolutely absorbed in the play while my girlfriend sat there right next to me, and all I did was ask her questions about how things worked. How inconsiderate of me. Well only one way to fix that.
She grabbed the smaller girl in her arms, and carried her inside the carriage without breaking their kiss. Mia closed the door behind them, and as the carriage got moving, Lily knew that this was going to be a ride she would never forget.
