Chapter 41 - Homeroom

Chapter 41 - Homeroom

With everyone's sights trained on the group when they walked in, Fina quickly became timid and shrunk behind Lucia. Ainz, however, held his head high and arrogantly sauntered into the class, heading towards the back of the classroom and quickly taking his seat.

Cecil followed after Ainz and took the seat beside him. He could actually sit anywhere he wanted in the class because there were no assigned seats, but since Ainz was the only person he knew in the class, Cecil decided to just sit next to him since Lucia looked like she wanted to sit next to Fina.

For whatever reason, no one approached them which made Cecil a little disappointed since he wanted to talk with the other students. The blame fell to Ainz because he was exuding an unapproachable aura that scared the other students in class away. It also didn't help that everyone in class knew him as the noble Bernstein Duke family's troublemaker son.

It was a different case for Lucia and Fina. The moment Cecil and Ainz left the two, the other students in class, particularly the girls and a few of the more outgoing-looking boys, quickly approached them and started introducing themselves.

Since Lucia was really sociable, she happily received their greetings and made friends with all the ones who approached her. After politely returning everyone's greetings, she pulled Fina along and started walking towards the seats they chose which were in front of Cecil and Ainz, but before they could take their seats, a lizardkin girl with golden locks and black horns approached them and introduced herself.

"Hello, Lucia. My name is Elizabeth, it's nice to meet you," The lizardkin girl greeted. There was an elegant air surrounding this girl and Lucia looked at her up and down after seeing that she was a really cute girl.

Lucia didn't want to appear rude, so she quickly returned the greeting with a smile and also introduced Fina who was next to her, "Hello, Elizabeth, as you may already know, my name's Lucia, and this is Fina!"

"I'm Aquafina Oceania..." Fina introduced herself and then she added hesitantly, "...nice to meet you Elizabeth...Arks, I presume?"

"Oyah? Well, I guess you would know since you're a Neftersea."

Elizabeth wasn't all that surprised when Fina exposed her last name. She already knew who Fina was at a glance.

"...yes," Fina said, her eyes darkening a little.

The rest of the class other than Lucia and Cecil exclaimed when they listened to the two girls' exchange. Lucia saw Fina's reaction and furrowed her brows a bit before asking worriedly, "What's up Fina?"

"Eh? Lulu, you don't know?"

Lucia tilted her head in confusion. She stared back at her before cluelessly asking, "Hm? Know what?"

Elizabeth looked at her incredulously and asked, "That means you don't know about me either?"

Lucia thought hard for a bit then replied, "I don't think I've ever met you before~ so should I know you?"

Elizabeth was a bit dumbfounded. In Angla City, everyone knew of what the name 'Arks' represented, so it puzzled her since Lucia, who was the first ranked student, didn't know who she actually was. Somehow, however, she found it to be quite refreshing and when she saw the urgent and meaningful gaze Fina was directing at her, Elizabeth smiled and said, "Never mind, it's nothing. Well, if you don't mind me asking, is it alright if we become friends?"

Lucia smiled brightly when she heard her, "Of course! Hehe~ the more friends the merrier! Come, I'll introduce you to Ainz and Cel~"

Lucia was in high spirits and she grabbed both Fina and Elizabeth's hands and walked towards where Ainz and Cecil were sitting at, which was just behind them. The rest of the class was surprised at seeing Lucia brazenly grab and drag the princess of the Anglaria Kingdom with her. Lucia was about to introduce the two boys to her new friend, but Ainz had abruptly stood up when he saw Elizabeth.

"Ah, prin–" Before Ainz could continue talking, he immediately stopped when he sensed the urgent glare that Elizabeth shot him. She then made a slight gesture towards him and then Ainz continued talking, "Elizabeth... long time no see."

His tone was incredibly forced as he knew Elizabeth's true identity. He was a noble of the Anglaria Kingdom after all, so his family was a vassal of the Arks Royal Family. He was also from the Bernstein Duke house, so he had frequent contact with Elizabeth, the kingdom's princess, and could be said to be her childhood friend of sorts. Since he knew her for so long, he was quick to catch onto the meaning behind her glare and proceeded to act 'normally' like everyone else though it was incredibly forced.

"Yes, it's been a long time indeed Ainz," Elizabeth replied

"Oh! So you already know each other?"

Elizabeth smiled and replied to Lucia, "Yes, you could say we were... childhood playmates, right Ainz?"

Seeing the meaningful glare she directed at him for a split second, Ainz nervously replied, "Yes, yes. We are indeed childhood friends."

Ainz carefully chose his words when replying. Although he felt that he chose his words correctly, he was still sweating nervously inside. He was smart, so he knew that the princess didn't want her identity exposed to Lucia who was treating her casually like she would any other person. It was a bit meaningless though since the rest of the class knew, so it would only be a matter of time before Lucia picked up on it.

Still, Ainz was a little puzzled as to why Lucia didn't know who Elizabeth was. She was smart and currently the academy's number 1 prospect in the freshman year. It made no sense that she wouldn't know anything about the kingdom's royal family unless she lived under a rock all these years which Ainz doubted.

Even though it seemed unbelievable to most people in the classroom, Lucia truly didn't know Elizabeth's identity. After all, she only introduced herself as Elizabeth Arks and didn't say anything about coming from the royal family. Since they lived so far away from the capital city, Lucia's mother never deemed it necessary to teach her about the names of the important people of the Anglaria Kingdom and only taught her about magic and mana.

Anna only planned on teaching her a little bit once she was ready to go enroll in the Royal Academy, but unfortunately, that planned was scrapped since Lucia left with Cecil to go on an adventure.

Lucia smiled when she saw that Ainz and Elizbeth were already acquainted, so she proceeded to introduce the latter to the boy next to Ainz, Cecil.

"This is Cecil–Eh, wait... Cel, what're you doing?" Lucia eyed the seemingly preoccupied Cecil.

Cecil was currently fiddling with his MID and didn't pay attention to anything that was going on around him. He was pretty focused on it, so he didn't see Elizabeth and Ainz's previous exchange even though it all happened right in front of him. He looked up when he heard Lucia call him and smiled foolishly at her before replying, "I'm looking at what other things we could do with the MID! Also, I wanna see how it work, so I'm seeing if it's possible to take it apart or not!"

"Idiot, you're just going to break it! Take it apart and let's see what I'll do to you! That thing's important, so don't you dare mess around with it! Also, all the functions were clearly explained in the manual, just read it and don't do anything stupid!"

"But, Lulu–"

"But what? Do you want my foot up your butt?"

Lucia raised her fist and was about to make it descend on his head, but then she remembered that Elizabeth was next to her, so she stopped and started to awkwardly laugh, "Ehehe, s-sorry you had to see that, Elizabeth. This guy, he acts like an idiot most of the time, but I can guarantee you that he's a good person!"

"I appreciate the compliment, but don't you think what you said before was a little harsh?!"

"Shut it, Cel."

Lucia huffed before finally introducing him to Elizabeth, "Cel, this is Elizabeth Arks, she wanted to become our new friend!" She then turned towards Elizabeth and said, "Eli, uhm, is it okay if I call you that? Elizabeth is a bit long ehehe~ Anyway, this idiot here is Cecil!"

Elizabeth first replied to Lucia's question, "I don't mind Lucia. I'd prefer it if you called me that since you're my friend now." Before turning towards Cecil and formally introducing herself, "My name is Elizabeth Arks. Like Lucia, you can call me Eli. It's nice to meet you, Cecil."

"Likewise, Eli," Cecil said with a smile, but before the group could continue talking, a middle-aged male beastkin walked into the classroom.

"Alright class, quiet down and take your seats so we can begin homeroom already!" the man said with his gruff voice.

Everyone in class S quickly quieted down and quickly took their seats. The class's interior was designed so that the farther you are from the front of the class, the more elevated was your seat. It was designed like this so that even if you sat at the back of the class, you could still have a clear view of the teacher and the writing board that were in the front of the class.

Cecil and Ainz were seated at the back and topmost level of the class and a level below them, in order from left to right, sat Fina, Lucia, and Eli. Lucia was sandwiched in between the two girls, but she sat directly in front of Cecil. Their area was pretty spacious so it could definitely hold at least one more person, but no one approached to sit down beside them. Even the ones who had previously approached Lucia and made friends with her didn't seem like they wanted to go over and sit in her area.

This was largely due to the fact that Lucia was also sitting besides two rather prominent figures, the princesses of two nations, Elizabeth and Fina. This was pretty intimidating, so the other students just stayed clear from them. The same went for Ainz and Cecil. It was only the two of them seated on their row at the back.

It wasn't like the group didn't want others to approach them, but their atmosphere and aura made them a little unapproachable. 2 of them were important characters of two different nations, 1 of them was a well-known troublemaker, Lucia herself was the freshman year's first ranker and Cecil was the second ranker. It wasn't any wonder why others would feel a little intimidated to approach them, especially since they seemed to have already made a group for themselves.

When everyone took their seats the classroom felt a bit empty since it was too spacious for just 25 students. With the classroom's capacity, it could easily hold 40 to 50 students. Seeing as everyone had taken their seats, the instructor opened his mouth to introduce himself, "Name's Gonfu Jin, you can all call me Instructor Jin and I'll be this year's S-class homeroom teacher! I hope we all get along!"

Instructor Jin had a smile on his face as he inspected everyone in his class one by one.

"Without further ado, let's begin with today's fist activity. Introductions! So! Who wants to go first?"

Everyone was a bit hesitant, so the instructor took the liberty of choosing one of the students himself.

"Why don't we have our first year's representative go first?" He said while eyeing Lucia.

Lucia smiled before quickly standing up and introducing herself cheerfully, "Hello, everyone, my name is Lucia Yukihime. It's a pleasure to meet all of you! I'll be in everyone's care throughout this year, so I hope we can all get along!"

She bowed towards the class and was about to sit down before the instructor said dully, "Is that it? Just your name? Come on, Lucia! You could do better than that! Give us a splendid introduction!"

Lucia was a bit taken aback. She didn't think the instructor would want something more from just a mere introduction. She thought for a while before continuing, "Despite what most people know about my exam results, I'm actually an Intermediate Mana Sea Stage spellcaster though the amount of mana that I possess can rival those within the Mana Core Stage! Also, I'm a B-rank warrior!"

Then, Lucia wordlessly lifted both her hands. 3 balls of water with streaks of ice and steam rotated on her left hand while on her right hand floated a globe of fire with lava circling around it.

"As a spell caster, my main attributes are fire and water," She flicked her hands and the balls of water and fire blinked out of existence. She then grabbed both her weapons and continued, "As a fighter, I fight using my katana and kodachi... that's all. Thank you."

She then kept her weapons and bowed once again before taking her seat. Instructor Jin enthusiastically clapped his hands and it prompted everyone else in class to give Lucia an applause.

"Now that's more like it! Alright everyone, remember to put in as much flare as Lucia did with your intros!"

The instructor was really spirited. He then called out to the second ranked student in the class, but after calling out for a while, no one in class stood up, so Lucia took a glance back at Cecil and saw that he was still preoccupied with his MID. He had completely ignored her words and was still fiddling around with it!

"Oe, Cel. Cel! Cel! Cel!!!" Lucia roared and got up to smack his head after seeing him unresponsive despite her having called out to him a few times.

"O-Ow! Hey, what the heck, Lulu?"

"Instructor Jin called for you to introduce yourself to the class!"

Cecil looked up and saw that the instructor was indeed looking at him. He was also smiling while waiting patiently. Cecil realized his blunder and stood up ramrod straight and stiffly introduced himself, "I'm Cecil Silvaria! I'm an Intermediate Mana Sea Stage spellcaster! As a warrior, I'm A-rank! Please treat me well!"

Instructor Jin chuckled seeing how awkward Cecil was acting. The way he acted was pretty amusing and the tension in the class quickly faded away as everyone found him quite funny. Instructor Jin wasn't angry at him in the least and just jokingly warned, "It's alright there Cecil. I'm a patient person, but it would do you well if you paid attention, alright? Not every instructor is as patient as I! HAHAHAHA!"

"Yes, Instructor, sir!"

"Haha, alright take your seat now. Next! Third rank!"

Cecil sighed and immediately took his seat. Despite her being violent as usual, Cecil quickly thanked Lucia for earlier.

"You owe me~"

"Yes, yes, but would it kill you to not hit me on the head? It hurts, y'know?"

"I'm sorry, Cel~ but my fist just really likes your head~"

"Ugh..."
