Chapter 1: Visions of the Past

“YOU BASTARD!”

The screams of one man echoed across the sacred island, followed by several explosions that rocked it. Two well-known mages had been fighting on this island for five whole days without rest. Both refusing to back down in this battle of ideals. The island containing them has all but lost its once populated wildlife and beautiful greenery to the destruction of battle.

“Why are you doing this? You had the perfect opportunity to take her away from here and settle down in a quiet village where you wouldn’t have been bothered.”

“Me and her both agreed that we wouldn’t rest until we brought you back to sense, until we freed you from your own shackles.”

“BAH don’t make me laugh you bi-”

The mage’s words had been caught off as a wall of fire swept across the island, scorching the very earth and melting the rock. An equally powerful wall of flame met it had on, causing yet another explosion that rocked the island, creating a deep crack running down the middle of it where the two walls had clashed.

“Please… Just fucking give up on trying to rescue me. I don’t need rescuing and I sure as hell don’t want you doing it. The only option for you right now is to kill me or walk away before I kill you.”

“You can’t be seri-”

“I am.”

Instead of replying steam erupted across the island as one of the mages flew straight up into the air, looking like a small dot by the time he came to a stop.

“From the heavens high, with fire and might

Allow a blaze to illuminate this sky

Ancient calamity deep within the cosmos

Heed my call and descend to us

May thy trails of celestial grace and divine flames

Mar the benevolent ground

Take from us this sacred island and spread it across the seas

Ancient calamity of the deep cosmos

Bring down thine meteor

I offer up a spirit in my stead

Descend and claim thy reward.”

Upon the chant being finished the sky began to shake violently as a low, deep rumble echoed across it. Within moments the sun was blocked out by an object speeding towards the two mages.

“You crazy son of a bitch, to go this far instead of leaving…”

“If you die, I plan on trying to die with you my dear friend.”

The mass of the frozen rock crashed through the atmosphere, creating a thundering roar that deafened all on the island. The surface of the meteor ignited into bright white flames, which left a deep scar against the blue of the sky.

“May we meet in another life.”

The object, a meteor of a small size, slammed into the middle of the island causing it to explode in all directions. Massive waves swept across the sea as if trying to escape the destruction coming from the meteor.

“If there is a hell I will see you there.”

Just as a bright light appeared, and began expanding, in the center of the sea where the island used to be the vision melted. Everything turned as dark as the night sky before shifting into a different reality, the present day.

Pyria slowly sat up and rubbed her temples, trying to soothe her headache as her gaze shifted around the room. With a small groan she stood up and stretched her tired body as she trodden over to the mirror she had tucked away in the corner of the room.

She placed a small and pale hand against the glass for a few moments before gently picking up the blindfold that hung off of one corner of it., trying it around her head to cover her white eyes. Pyria didn’t really know why she kept the mirror around since she had become blind decades ago… Maybe it was for the simple act of gazing into it.

The elven woman turned around towards the middle of the room and bowed deeply before speaking up in a quiet tone, so as to not disturb anyone in neighboring rooms.

“Master… Why did you decide to show me such a vision from the distant past?”

A deep yet airy voice not belonging to a body chuckled within her mind before responding to her.

‘That is for you to decide my dear student. I will tell you that it is related to the prophecy I gave to you days ago… You haven’t forgotten about it have you?’

A chill crept down Pyria’s spine as she shook her head.

“I haven’t master, I have been trying to arrange a meeting between the royal members to discuss it with them but they have been quite busy until today.”

Her master didn’t respond but she felt as if he nodded in approval before withdrawing his consciousness from her mind.

Breathing out a soft sigh the Visionary left her room to begin the preparations for the meeting with the royal figures. A part of her mind was nervous due to the recent tensions rising between the nations yet again.
