Chapter 21: The Bite Where Everything Changed

As these abominations crashed towards their group, Lyshisha’s hands sent glittering matter arrows piercing their way to their foes with a grin reaching her ears.

She couldn’t wait to see how these scientists faces would look like when their guinea pigs wind up skewered like a shish kebab under her might!

But as the arrows hit their target, it barely punctured them—it only stopped their momentum for a while!

What the hell was that?

Has her prodigious mental abilities failed her, or what?

Naw, how could these monsters skin be so tough?

If that’s the case, then even attempting mental attacks wouldn’t yield a thing, since there wouldn’t even be much of -or any—mind to disorient or scramble!

“Shit! Guys, be careful, letter energy doesn’t work on them!” she cried, urging them to create more distance from their tougher-than-expected enemies.

Her tigers attempted to smash them with their paws to little effect, since they apparently possessed an incredible physical strength allowing them to punch away the young queen’s pets who yelped in fear and pain.

“Let’s see if they can wash away my spear!” said the mermen as his mana-fused blade chopped its way towards an assailant bound for Dibano’s Queen, leaving a deep gash across its abdomen gushing with ocher blood.

Lyshisha was relieved by this turn of events, while the now hissing creature started towards the merman for revenge.

These assholes could be wounded, therefore they could be killed! “Mamad, Bibi, get back, I don’t want you babies to be wounded by them! Kame, be wary of close combat, we don’t know what kinds of infections they could carry!” she said.

“Got it, Your Royal Highness,” he replied as he used some intricate spear play to engage two foes at the same time.

The young monarch summoned her Impundulu again…

… hoping to end this fight as quickly as possible, while her two pets fled out of her way.

“Girl, mop the way out of these trash, now!” she ordered.

The legendary bird shone, while electrical coils spun around it, its peal the crack of natural thunder.

Its beak spat out a few mouthfuls of lightning bolts, which zapped the surrounding foes.

You lost some breath! You lost 10% Stamina.

However, Lyshisha’s face sank.

Your breath recovers!

These creatures didn’t crumble to pieces as she hoped, only stunned for a few seconds, before they lumbered in their direction once again.

What kind of defense was that?

Alright, they had to bounce out of this shack, since they’ll be whacked -or worse—if they get caught by these sickos!

She said so to her allies who immediately agreed.

The merman was struggling to keep two foes at bay, and if his royal ally couldn’t deal with them with that wide-ranged attack, he most certainly would exhaust his mana supply before he’ll barely kill two of them!

And that was very conservative on his part!

They quickly fled the room while her impundulu slowed their enemies with a stronger lightning blast.

You lost some breath! You lost 18% Stamina.

While they ran, Kame couldn’t help but ask, “Your Royal Highness, why is your Impundulu strength so weak compared to before?”

“Because we’re indoors, and she has to use the energy stored inside her instead of borrowing and channeling the energy from the clouds! Worse, it cost me more stamina overall since it directly comes from her reserves, so I can’t keep stalling them like that for long if I wanna have any juice to run away with you guys!” she said with a labored breath.

And this was despite the fact that her cultivation increased, giving her a bit more stamina to spend!

The bipedal creatures’ snarls and growls drew closer to them despite her summons efforts.

She couldn’t help but marvel at her enemy’s creations.

If she had any less scruples like five years ago, she might’ve been tempted to invest in these ventures, ’cause seriously, a warrior that gives her so much hassle to dispatch would be worthy of her money and attention!

A minute barely elapsed when she ordered her bird to stop attacking and summoned her back to save some precious breath for herself. ‘Guys, we’re on … our own now … so get a move on!’ she said while she increased her pace without hearing their reply.

She recognized the grand hall they trod before.

They’ll soon be out of this godforsaken place and use her Impundulu to fly away!

But as they reached the double door leading to the antechamber, the young woman heard a shrieking growl and felt coarse hands grabbing her waist while two sets of serrated teeth bit the right side of her neck!

A harrowing scream nearly rattled the stonewalls.

You are injured! You lost 33% Vitality and 15% Stamina.

Remaining Vitality: 100%—> 67% Remaining Stamina: %—> %

Holy shit!

She stumbled, but managed to steady herself while the double door caved open under her tiger’s large paws. ‘Aaargh! Get … off me!’ she cried, shaking her body while her hands tried to push the biter away.

Then a cold feeling coursed from the bite all across her chest.

You are afflicted with an unknown substance!

Since the Ignorant Server cannot ascertain its origin, please proceed with caution!

What the hell?

Her heartbeat skipped, and her throat hiccupped over a halting breath.

A wave of dizziness affected her senses, the world a picture of an earthquake over her unsteady steps.

Trying to get her bearings, a buzzing sound rang fitfully across her ears, while her surroundings became distorted and wobbly.

What’s goin’ on?

What was happening to her?

For God only knew how long, she lost the taste in her mouth, then her sense of smell…

Even the buzzing stopped.

She almost panicked.

She couldn’t hear anymore!

What the fuck?

Then her eyes colored everything red, then blue, then yellow…

Then, she felt as if her flesh hovered above the floor, like a ghost unfettered by the mortal coil, even though her feet were rooted on the ground.

She’d lost her sense of touch!

Then she panicked, because everything went black!

Ah lòbà eeehhh!

Was she going to die today?

And a split second later, when everything suddenly—and mysteriously— went back to normal, she heard Kame’s war cry…

Why?
