10th Grade English, High School Paper Proposal: Oscar Corvus – Hero or Villain?
Everyone knows who Oscar Corvus is. But, in case you don’t, and because we’re meant to write a “full introduction”, here’s a brief summary. Heir to the Corvus business empire, which mostly deals with energy, defense, medical and computing industries, six years ago Oscar became chairman, CEO and primary owner at age 20. Having started two years early at MIT, he graduated that same year with degrees in mechanical, electrical and chemical engineering, and then got married- pretty crazy, right? Needless to say, he’s a bit of a genius.
He started a whole bunch of programs, including the two that he’s most famous for: the PAC (Personal Armored Commander), and two years later, the PACs Corvii who first tested the armors. While the PAC system was really revolutionary for warfare, governments are just starting to buy a few suits, since governments are slow and the suits are expensive; Oscar still refuses to sell the most advanced models. The PACs Corvii is a mercenary company made up of an elite group of soldiers swearing loyalty to Oscar; these guys are called the Knights Corvii or Ravens by the media. Comparisons likening Oscar to King Arthur and the Ravens to his knights are still in the news almost every day.
The finest fighters to begin with, the Ravens were amped by experimental treatments developed by Corvus Medical Industries, and use personalized, prototype armors designed by Oscar himself. Oscar approves every major PACs deployment, and has done a lot “pro bono”, interceding in civil wars and genocides. Sometimes, “to get a break from the lab” he’ll go along in his personal armor. Many have called his actions “imperialistic, Christian biased, paternalistic interference”, his enemies have accused him of warcrimes and attempting to make himself a Roman Emperor (the whole “pax Romana”/ “pax Corvii” thing), and in eighteen countries (according to the NY Times, at least) he is either worshiped as a god or saint by budding cults. These were the golden years.

Unfortunately, a year ago, he made a mistake with his armor (at least that’s what we thought at the time), and on deployment it exploded, breaking Oscar’s back and costing him the use of his legs; this would become the greatest scandal of Oscar’s life. Six months ago he left rehab, still unable to walk, though the press releases from Corvus Medical Industries say that they have started a promising test treatment last week.
So why the whole scandal? It turns out Dulac Benwickson, one of Oscar’s best friends and one of five Raven Captains, called “the new Lancelot” in the press, decided he’d like to really copy Lancelot and have an affair with Jennifer Carmelide-Corvus, Oscar’s wife. Apparently, Dulac, full of love and wanting Oscar out of the way, sabotaged the armor. While recovering, Oscar put the pieces together. Two months ago, without warning Dulac he knew, Oscar had Dulac over to his house before shooting him half a dozen times; this, of course, made the situation very public. Oscar claims he “confronted Dulac about the infidelity, before Dulac attacked me. I had prepared for this by hiding a gun underneath the blanket covering my legs. After being knocked out of the chair, I opened fire killing Dulac.” Although Oscar was acquitted, he’s temporarily stopped all non-training activities of the Ravens and is “unavailable for comment while recuperating.”
Teacher’s Comments: Acceptable topic for a paper, though you need to find some books or scholarly articles as sources, not just the media. I want to see a timeline of events too, eg:
6 years ago: Graduates college, marries, becomes CEO and owner of Corvus Industries
4 years ago: Founds PACs Corvii
1 year ago: Injured by sabotaged armor
2 months ago: Shoots Dulac.
Now: Starting experimental treatment.
