The astute among you may have noticed the lack of chapters lately.

The reason is simple: I felt disatisfied with the story and knew I could do better. Ever since I posted the first chapters, I knew they were in need of improvement, but could never spare the time to rewrite them.

Until one day, I attempted to do so, and ended up changing so much I realised I could not plug these rewritted versions back into the start of the story.

So, I was left with a dilemma and I realised there was so much missed potential with my story. I could do far, far better than what I'd already written and posted online, so I knuckled down and worked on rewriting the entire first 'book' of Ortus.

The story has been illicitly taken; should you find it on Amazon, report the infringement.

And then I rewrote 35% of that. And then I rewrote 10% again and massively cleaned up the prose. And the end result was a book with much more polish than Ortus, featuring a smarter, more coherent, more interesting protagonist, more coherent and logical world, overall better prose, a deeper exploration of a more consistent magic system that emphasises the parts I found most interesting, as well as a heap of balance adjustments.

You may have also noticed that Ortus isn't stubbed, even though it's on Kindle Unlimited. That's because the rewritten version is so substantially different there's no need to do so. Nothing has been copy-pasted from Ortus, so you can still read this version if you want, or you can read the one that is improved in every conceivable fashion.
