Chapter 3: Acting and Improvising

Chapter 3: Acting and Improvising

Maya awoken by a sharp pain in her stomach. She shot open her eyes wide and abruptly sat herself up from the cushion that she had slept on. She instinctively pressed the stomach part that felt hurts with her hands, even though she knew it wouldn't lessen the pain.

"My god. I almost hit you! you are like a corpse who suddenly rose from death! Don't do it again!" A young woman gave her a yell as a first thing in her morning.

Maya turned around to look at the young woman and found her unfamiliar. Realizing she was no longer under the wreckage of the carriage where she had put herself into, she judged her plan was a success. She threw her gaze around, scanning the rest of the room and found three other unfamiliar figures.

"How do you feel?" a woman who looked like in her early thirty asked. She had a black hair and her eyes were dark green, her skin was fair and her body build was lean.

"Not so well, Lady..." Maya left her words hanging, as she didn't know what nobility title she had and what was her house name.

"Vhientia, I am Marchioness Vhientia." Clarissa supplied.

Maya nodded to her, "My apologized, Marchioness Vhientia." She bowed her head a little, then she looked at her again. "Umm, I am sorry Marchioness, but where is my fami--"

"They are dead." A man who stood behind the Marchioness cut in.

Maya looked up at him, no words came out of her mouth. She stared at him for awhile because a thought just crossed her mind that she might had seen him somewhere before.

The man misunderstood her staring and silent as a shock, "Sorry to be so blunt, but I don't think telling you about it any other way would do you any better."

Maya was brought back from her thought, and pressed herself to act the role. You are sad and traumatized, you are sad and traumatized. She kept reminding herself to play it out.

Maya broke her gaze with the man and hanged her head low. She put her hands to cover her entire face and stayed like that for awhile. She then looked up at the man again and put a sorrowful smile, "Thank you, Marquess Vhientia. For saving me." She said weakly and threw her gaze on the floor.

"Umm, I am sorry to ask when you are like this. But do you remember what happened?" a young man who sat on a chair not far from the Marquess spoke.

Maya looked up again and stare at him, "...Not much. It... happened so fast." She formulated her words carefully. She didn't like explaining things all over again.

The Marquess and Marchioness looked at each other and sighed.

"Be that as it may. We still need you to present yourself to His Majesty The King."

Maya turned her head sharply to look at The Marquess, "What?" she asked, surprised.

"We are in the waiting room outside the royal hall. A servant will come and tell us it is our turn of entrance. You may stay here for a little bit and not attend the princess birthday party, but when we tell His Majesty that someone dared to spill blood of nobles and nearly wiped their entire family out, he will definitely demand your present. So when he do, and he will, you tell him all that you know."

"...We are already in the castle." Maya caught on.

Just when Maya was about to inquire more, a knock was heard on the door. Vandar who was the nearest get off of his seat and opened it a little. He conversed for awhile with someone outside and the turned back to the room. "That's our cue." He informed.

"We have to go." Marchioness said and all her family member stood up and walked out of the room. The Marquess, being the last one to stepped outside, gave her one last look, "Remember what I said." Then he exited and closed the door.

Maya was frustrated. When she formulated the plan to save herself from being sold, she had arranged a scheme to kill her entire family and put herself as the survived victim. She injured herself and hid inside the toppled, half-destroyed carriage. She was very uncomfortable stabbing herself, but as she could see her HP she felt a bit safer. She stopped self-producing her wounds when her HP was at half the maximum. The HP Natural regeneration also convinced her she wouldn't bleed to death.

After successfully setting up herself as survivor, she waited and expected that someone would pass by, and found her, then saved her. It was a nearly perfect plan to get herself a witness that could backed her position as a survivor rather than a culprit. Because if she ran away or disappeared instead, people would definitely speculate her as a suspect.

Reinforced by her logic that today was princess birthday party, and some nobles would travel the same road her family had taken to get to the castle, she concluded that she had a high possibility that she could get a person of power as her witness, which in turn will strengthened her safety if such person would claim her as the victim, rendering her innocent.

So far everything went according to her plan. What she didn't expect however, was that her plan ended while the problem not.

The Marquess Vheintia who found her kept pressing the issue and informed her that he would brought it up to The King of Antara.

Why would he do that?! Why would anyone do that?! Who in their right mind would bring up a murder case to their boss in his daughter party?! Is he stupid?! Maya screamed internally. The situation urged her to devise a follow up plan.

Is there any information from Ormeth Armaments that I can use? Ugh, I can only remember the king will die, then his daughter will rise as the queen because she was the only children he have. Maya rummaged her brain, trying to find the scattered memories of the game she played.

After quite awhile, she gave up. She only remembered the game's detail when it came to big bosses, build tips, money-making tricks, important places, useful items, and the big part of the storyline. She didn't know anything about the inconsequential NPCs who didn't give players quests or didn't even have any dialogs.

Maya pinched the bridge of her nose as she sat herself on a white couch in the room. I missed Earth, She reminisced. As shitty as it was, at least I don't have to worry about being sold or killed all the time. She leaned back on the couch.

How could I end up here anyway, and how could I get back? Could I even come back?

Maya-- no, Tamara had woken up as Maya Mereworth in the game of Ormeth Armament. She didn't know how, only that she did. She couldn't even remember what was the last thing she did on Earth, did she die? Did she fell asleep? Was she run over by a truck? Did the Ormeth Armament shut down their server for good when she was playing it? She didn't know.

All she knew was she woke up as an inconsequential NPC in the game she played. Heck, she didn't even know there was NPC named Maya before. She knew this world was Ormeth Armaments only because the Baron mentioned the familiar name of the kingdom, its ruler, and his daughter, when he was briefing the whole family on the plan to attend the princess birthday party.

It took her three days to come to term with the fact that now she was in the game. She had hoped to wake up in Earth when she slept at night, rendering all these just as a dream, but she didn't, and she kept waking up as Maya Mereworth in the morning.

What now? I really can't come up with a plan to deal with the king's summon. I don't even know any etiquette for addressing royalty. Will I be executed for being rude? Will they severe my limbs as punishment? Ugh there so much I don't know about this game-turned reality. Tamara bemoaned. If her head was an engine, it sure would put out a shitload of smoke.

Whatever. I am done. I give up. I'll just improvise when the times come. If I die, I die. Maybe I can even come back to Earth when I die. Tamara leaned back on the couch and relaxed. She emptied her mind and enjoying this moment of peace.

Few minutes later she fell asleep, and was awoken by a servant. Apparently he had knocked the door for few times. Getting no response from her, the servant entered the room and found her laying on the couch. He woke her up and informed her that she had been summoned by His Majesty The King.

Here it comes. Tamara thought as she was led to the royal hall.
