When Jasmine wished for everyone's wishes to come true on her birthday, May 31st, that considerate wish would take effect and be fulfilled the following day. Unfortunately for her, her kind intentions did more harm than good because she was vague. She did specify only her friends' wishes, she bluntly stated everyone's wishes that day. The wishes that become effective today gradually destroyed most of civilization in the following months.
The wish-granting applied to everyone who happened to have made a wish that day, from disgruntled employees wishing for something better under their breath to criminals frustratingly wishing to escape their jail cell.
Wishes of all types spoken verbally or in their minds. People who prayed. People who dreamed of more. They all fit within the umbrella of a wish. There were too many wishes spoken in one day. Regardless of intent, they were all granted. Moments in people's lives changed in an instant.
A serial killer sitting in an electric chair, looking away from the uniformed man who stared directly at him as he pulled the switch. The murderer glances at his mother weeping in the observatory. He killer suddenly wishes he could have a second chance at life to make things right.
A man who lost his child wished in a poem for a world where no parent should have to lose their child to sickness.
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
A young girl whose father died from gun violence, weeping and angrily wishing all people with guns would just die.
A child wished to be a superhero. (several people around the globe did actually).
A teenager wished he could read minds.
One in a group of stoned teenagers wished that something interesting would finally happen in their middle-of-nowhere town “like a zombie outbreak or something”
There were some odd wishes fulfilled for sure,
but the most common wish fulfilled were people who were told to have a great day yesterday, suddenly just had a great day, today.
The wishes around the world sometimes contradicted each other, and some force in the universe determined the compromise to be made. The after-effects include several criminals escaping prison, magic is now a real elemental force, and A zombie outbreak spreading in Canada.
The world was trying to get accustomed to the appearance of dozens of superheroes, princesses, wealthy leaders, celebrities, and supernatural beings that appeared in one day.
The biggest shock was all the white people dying at once because of one individual's frustrated wish, but suddenly they were resurrected due to another individual's wish about people getting second chances at life (the conflicting wishes found the solution in being the resurrection of the recently deceased).
As a result, millions of harmless undead roamed the Earth (not to be confused with the radical hungry zombies). Eventually, within two years, the evil intentions of a few twisted people have ruined cities, countries, and even whole continents as the end result. War, poverty, famine, and those damned zombies wiped out more “normal” humans by the day.
It was looking grim for the human race.
Aliens watching from above laughed as they munched on some space popcorn.
