Although he had set the fur out to dry, the foliage of the trees was not helping it at all. Anselm didn't even know if it was gonna work or not.
'Sigh..It's time to move out. I gotta find a place, preferably a cave. So that I can get shelter and protect my belongings and the fire in case it rains.'
And on went Anselm on his search. He took his satchel with him, emptying it out except for the kitchen knife. He hoped to find some edible fruits. Exploring the forest and mountains, Anselm gathered his thoughts.
'The terrain is thankfully not rainforest-like but more so like a normal forest with occasional hills and rock cave systems. The new site should be close to a water source, offer protection from the weather and should be roomy. It should help in hiding things and have a protected entrance. I probably can't find one that matches everything. But just having 3 or 4 attributes is more than enough.'
On the way, Anselm saw many wild animals. He saw a wild bear which was acting really weird, until he realised it was a mere cub and the brown thing that he assumed was a tree trunk was in fact the mother bear's legs. With that, Anselm spotted his first insanely giant animal that is one of the defining features of this world. He also caught glimpses of wolf packs occasionally. Rhinos, crocodiles, etc, he saw it. He also heard a terrifying roar that sounded like a tiger .At the first sight of anything noticing him or even looking at his direction, he ran. He knew he didn't stand a chance at his current combat power.
He also collected some fruits that he found while running from a couple of rhinos. They looked suspiciously like apples but with a deep shade of purple. He was nearly convinced they were poisonous, until he saw a group of monkeys eating them.
It was just before Afternoon, that Anselm found his new home. It was a rather large but airy cave. But its entrance was rather small. It was hidden beside a waterfall. The entrance was covered by overgrown weeds and vines covering it. It looked straight out of a secret boss room. The cave was situated in a small rocky mountain that jutted out of the landscape. It was one among many small mountains in the forested landscape.
What was different with this mountain was the river running through it, making a small but delightful waterfall which emptied into a pond that gave way to small streams throughout the forest.
Anselm checked for animal marks and tracks to determine if the pond was a watering hole or not. It would be a problem if his home was constantly surrounded by great beasts. After finding no traces of animals aside from some fish in the pond, Anselm got to work. Dropping the fruits in the cave, he immediately ran back to his former campsite. On the way he marked trees with the kitchen knife to ensure he didn't lose his way. The journey back this time took half the time. He only had to stop for carving marks into the trees. Anselm quickly stuffed the spare pants, copper pot, bandages, wooden stirrer, kitchen knife, and the wolf skin down the satchel. He wore the now dried shirt and decided to extinguish the campfire.
'I'm pretty sure I can make a new campfire much easier if I get an ember or glowing stick from the previous fire. Or is it a tinder? Man, for a village kid, this kid has basically zero survival skills…. Ok, I'll stuff the glowing stones in the wolf skin. It won't matter if it's damaged or not. It's not worth much aside from a sentimental 'first kill' value. Alright, we're done here.'
Anselm got up and immediately felt the weight of the satchel on him. 'Oh man, I forgot about the sling. It's digging into my chest and shoulders. This is such a pain in the ass…' Anselm shrugged and decided to just run for his new home.
On the way, Anselm ended up collecting some more purple apples and a few berries that tasted like..... well berries. He also gathered some dry grass, twigs, tinder and other flammable materials. He stopped after he felt the collective weight of the luggage straining the sling. Anselm continued sprinting. He examined his physique.

'Running through a forest in the daytime feels great. I don't know if it's this world's biophysical laws but my body feels surprisingly lithe and strong for such a skinny physique'. Anselm picked up his pace and sprinted to the cave. He had a much easier time navigating thanks to his knife marks. Once he reached the waterfall site, he took a quick survey of the site.
'Objectives to be done today. Fix the damn sling, Hide the entrance with some branches, foliage and vines or construct a fence for an extra layer of protection, make a new campsite fire, collect materials to maintain said fire, and finally train. A long term objective is to increase physical power, sense Haki, and learn how to make clothing out of animal fur or skin.I've decided not to head for the city until i rule this forest. A low level player doesn't run to a high level area. He stays in it, until he's strong enough to move on. If I can't protect myself from some no name guards or police force, what kind of transmigrator am i?'
Anselm took a deep breath and started his tasks for the day. Gathering stones inside the cave, to make a larger campfire area this time, Anselm was able to finish the layout in less than 10 minutes or so. Then, using the collected embers and glowing sticks, Anselm quickly caught the tinder and dry twigs on fire. He covered the now reborn chibi flame with a bunch of firewood and watched it grow in size.
'Ahhhh, the warmth of the fire washing over you is a feeling I can never get tired of. I should get myself a housewarming gift' Anselm chuckled.
Getting back to his tasks, Anselm spent the entire morning till afternoon creating an artificial foliage to mask the cave entrance. He also found that he did something wrong with the tanning. He decided to reduce the moisture for now and stretched the wolf fur over a wooden frame. Stretching and working the wolf fur was easy. It was making the wooden frame that took some time. He bound a couple of vines and fashioned it into a circular frame. He then stretched the fur over the frame tying it with more vines.
'I should consider collecting more vines. They're more useful than I thought. Wait… what if i used it to mitigate the sling for now…
It could be possible.' Anselm pondered for half an hour before he decided to proceed with it. Setting out, he began collecting vines.
On the way, he ended up encountering a python that was disguised as a vine. 'Well maybe not disguised…. more like i got careless and it almost cost me my life. That little shit almost strangled me. If it weren't for me finding his head open and snarling, and taking the opportunity to grab it, snapping it clean from the rest of this limbless bastard's body, I would have died.'
'Welp, there's my new housewarming present. At least I got a new vessel to practice skinning on.'
With the unexpected harvest and a multitude of vines, Anselm made his way back to the cave. He proceeded to carefully skin the snake, getting rid of its organs. Or so he thought to carry out the dumping, before he got an idea. 'These organs can be used. I'll dump everything except the brain and skin. For now, we can use these as bait. Hmph! To think in my previous life, I had Ophidiophobia and now I'm gutting a snake and handling its organs with my bare hands is wild.' Anselm crushed the internal organs together and placed it in a corner of the cave alongside the bones. He didn't have anything to store the bait in.
'I need to think of something quick. I should create containers, chests or buckets. It might be helpful. I should probably build a chamber pot. I don't want to be on guard while pooping. Maybe I'll dig a hole outside and use it to dump waste via a chamber pot. Damn Primal Life isn't full of shit like survival and roasting the meat of the animals you've hunted… It's more full of shit like literal shit…'
'Another thing is SALT. I need Sodium. My body's craving for it. Sure I can probably kill a deer and just drink the blood but that's impractical. Godamnit, i knew i should've collected some salt from the sea. It's too far away and risky now. The only solution is to substitute it with plant ash. I got to create a small fire and burn solely plants with high mineral content. The only reason I remember this is because it's from a comic where a character pranked another one by adding ashes from a banana tree to his food, which made it salty. So I gotta create another site to burn things. Great. I might need to create a bed or something soft for me to sleep on in this rather hard cave. Well at least, i'll sleep by the fire tonight'
Anselm took the longest breath he's ever taken since coming into this world….
He muttered "So many goddamn things to do.. I can't even imagine I'm in the same colorful world of Giant sea monsters, adventure romance, wanderlust and powerful, awe inspiring figures. You have a long day ahead of you, let's get to it."
Anselm deciding to skip his training today, focusing all his energy into completing his new home.
