{Fire, water, air, earth.}
“So this is how they’re doing the superpowers.” Neil commented. “I guess that most of the others will go with health or defensive based powers so that they can survive longer, but that wouldn’t be as fun as using spells. Hmmm.” After spending about five minutes thinking about his choices, Neil ended up choosing {casting time} and {air}.
[Thank you for making your choices. You may now enter the world of Wakana]
As the message disappeared Neil found himself transported outside of a village. Without wasting any time he headed into the village. He had decided to try and find someone who could teach him magic so that he could use his ‘superpower’.
Once he entered the gate to the village a message appeared in front of him causing him to stop and read it.
[You have entered Hugo Village. As this is your first time entering a village, it is advised that you look at your user guide before adventuring into the world.]
Wondering what would’ve happened if he had just headed into the forest instead, but having no way to test it, he started to look for someone that might know magic. Looking around he saw that the game seemed to be based in the medieval era. He saw dirt roads and pictures instead of words outside of shops and other buildings. Seeing a building with a picture of a book but not knowing if it was a library or a spell shop, he decided to ask some of the NPC’s.
“Excuse me sir. Could you tell me how I can learn spells?” Neil asks the first NPC that he passes.
“What do you need me for? All you fancy adventurers have that spell book to tell you basic stuff like that.” The man points at Neil’s waist as he answers in a tone implying that he was annoyed by being disturbed over something so obvious.
Looking to where the man was pointing Neil saw that he did in fact have a book. Noticing it for the first time Neil saw that it was attached to him by a rope that went around his waist as if to also act as a belt. Thanking the man Neil headed back outside the village so that he might read the book in peace and quiet.
After sitting against a tree Neil started to observe the book. The cover of the book was bounded in green colored leather and had the name Neil written on it. The book was latched closed with belt like fastener, it was through this fastener that the rope had attached the book to him. By undoing the fastener, Neil detached the book and began to read.
‘Phase 1: Acquire the four elements.
This phase will end when all the remaining players have the four elements. Each player has chosen a starting element and is to try and obtain the other three. The methods to obtain other elements is to either find cores or steal elemental nuclei from other players.
To find element cores you must look for crystals shaped as perfect spheres and about the size of golf balls. The color of the core will tell you the element it represents, red for fire, blue for water, brown for earth, and green for air. These cores will start out in random places outside of villages. As time progresses you may be able to find these cores in villages or in monsters as the game characters start to interact. If a monster is able to use magic then this in an indicator that the monster has swallowed a core and can be obtained with the drop loot.
To steal elemental nuclei from other players you must kill them. Elements taken this way only give the killer the killed player’s elemental nuclei. Therefore if the person killed had two cores and a single elemental nucleus, then the killer would only get one element. Also note that stolen nuclei become part of your elemental nucleus. Therefore if the person killed had one core and two elemental nuclei, then the killer would get two elements. Note that you must kill the person and can’t take their elemental nucleus if something else kills them. The element in a person’s nucleus is indicated by the color of the leather on their user guide. The color coding for the leather is the same as that for the cores.
Each player may only have one of each element in there nucleus, extra elements may be stored as items. After all players have completed this phase they will move onto Phase 2.
Phase 2: Not available.’
After reading about Phase 1, Neil looked though the rest of the book. The book told what pictures were used for each shop, his current spells, how to use the spells, and even contained information on the current player status.
Currently the only spell he knows is [Air Bullet]. This spell fired off a pocket of air the size of a large marble. The book stated that he’d have to stand still while feeling his mana to cast the spell. But because of his super power, Neil found out that he could cast instantaneously, and while moving. This caused him to wonder why the book didn’t mention anything about the superpowers. He also wondered why he couldn’t access his stats. He tried different commands but nothing worked. Thankfully there was a health and mana bar in the top left corner of his vision. The health bar read 100 and was full. The mana bar read 21 and was partially empty.
After 15 minutes of experimentation, Neil concluded that each mana bullet cost 1 mana. He also regenerates 2 mana every minute and had a max amount of 25 mana. But what he found most shocking is that he didn’t have any health regeneration. Neil had wanted to test the damage of the [Air Bullets] and decided to test it on himself. After hitting himself with 3 bullets he lost 9 health and waited for his health to regenerate, but it didn’t. Not knowing how to increase his health and not wanting to waste any more time Neil decided to start searching for the elemental cores.
From the info page, Neil learned that of all the players 19% chose Air, 21% chose Earth, 27% chose Fire, and 33% chose Water (these stats are based off of a wonder pole result). Since 33% wouldn’t need to look for Water cores, Neil decided to look for those first. Neil’s plan was to look for a body of water and hope that there’d be some cores around it. Having decided what to do, Neil headed back towards the village to ask where the nearest body of water was.
But before he could enter the village, he was stopped by a girl. The girl was standing at the entrance to the village with her hands on her hips laughing “Hahaha, my first victim has appeared. [Earth Bullet]” With her palm pointed towards Neil she sent her spell at him.
Neil was still trying to understand what was happening when he got hit by the spell. He got blown back about 25 feet and rolled around before he could sit up again. “Fear my power, hahaha.” As the girl was laughing Neil took a look at his health and saw that it had dropped to 61. Not wasting another second Neil sprinted towards the forest.

“Hey! Get back here and fight!” As he was running through the trees, he looked over his shoulder and saw that the girl was chasing after him. When he turned back to the front, he heard her cast her spell again “[Earth Bullet]”. Not taking any chances he immediately turned 90 degrees to the left. As he continued running he heard a loud crash behind him, followed by the girl screaming that she missed, and the tree falling to the ground.
Knowing that he could only take 2 more of those before he only had 1 hp left, caused Neil to run even faster. Unfortunately, this also caused him to run blindly. Having no idea where he was or where to go, Neil kept running.
After a 10 minute chase and a lucky shot, Neil found himself panting facing a river alone, with 31 hp left. “Looks like… my stamina… is similar… to real life.” Being light headed, Neil was talking to no one in particular. “Did she give up?”
As if in answer to his question, Neil heard a loud noises. Something that sounded very much like a spell hitting trees and trees falling. “Now… I’ve… got…you.” Looking around, Neil noticed that the girl had used her spell to make the trees on either side of him fall, blocking a clear path to escape.
Taking quick notice that she seemed tired and he had just caught his breath, he decided to take a chance. “You seem winded, let me help you out.” After saying that, he used up all his mana and hit her with as many [Air Bullets] as he could. Since she hadn’t seen him retaliate the whole time he was being chased, she didn’t expect him to put up a fight. As a result, she got hit by all 25 of the [Air Bullets]. But because his bullets did less damage, rather than knocking her in the air and rolling on the ground, she just stumbled backwards.
Knowing that she would still have 25 health left, Neil had 2 choices if he wanted to finish her off. He could either wait 5 minutes so that he would have enough mana to cast 9 more bullets. Or, he could try and finish her with his fists.
Of course Neil knew all of this beforehand and didn’t waste a second to charge her. While she was still stumbling, Neil hit her with a hard right hook. His punch sent her sailing straight into a tree. But unfortunately, it didn’t knock her out. And to make matters worse, she was in a sitting position staring right at him.
Deciding to continue his charge, Neil rushed straight towards her. But before he could reach her, she pointed her palm at him and said “[Earth Bullet]”. The spell hit Neil square in the chess and sent him flying straight into the river.
Once he hit the water, Neil had given up. He knew that he would only have 1 hp and he had no idea how to regenerate health. Succumbing to his fate, Neil didn’t even try to swim. He just closed his eyes as the river swept him away. But a strange thing happened, his end didn’t come. With curiosity getting the best of him, he opened his eyes and saw that he was still underwater and still only had 1 hp. He also saw rocks, big rocks.
Having already opened his eyes, Neil decided to see his death to the end. But it still never came. He keep getting bashed by rocks when he was in the rapids and couldn’t find the strength to swim out of the current when it was calm. He never drowned but was under the water long enough that it should’ve happened at least 10 times. But right when he was getting bored and was about to take a nap, he saw it. A Water Core, it was just rolling along the bottom of the river.
Finally having something to do, Neil did his best to get the core. But the current was making him travel faster than the core and he didn’t reach it in time. After passing the core he continued to swim towards the bottom. He tried to grab something to slow himself but everything at the bottom of the river was too slippery for him to get any holds.
Hoping that there might be more cores further in the stream Neil looked further ahead in the stream. What he saw from under the water didn’t make sense to him so he decided to surface and take a look above water. That is when Neil saw the waterfall. It’s also when he fell over the waterfall. But this didn’t worry Neil cause he knew he be okay.
And he was right, after falling from the waterfall he still had his 1 hp. But instead of floating, he sank. Which turned out to be fortunate for him. At the bottom of the waterfall there were lots of water cores. Apparently the river caused them to gather at the end of the waterfall.
Picking up one of the cores, Neil noticed that it was about the size of a baseball. He then got his first message sense entering the village.
[You have found a water core.]
After pumping his fist and trying to shout “Alright!” but failing cause he’s underwater, Neil got a second message.
[The game has not officially started, therefore you can’t equip or store any items yet.]
“That explains so much.” Neil mumbled into the water.
After spending about 2 hours going in and out of the water collecting the cores, Neil had gathered only 8 cores.
He could only carry 4 at a time because the system counted lifting his shirt up as trying to unequip so he couldn’t use his shirt to carry them. This lead to him carrying 2 in his hands and 2 in his arms. After which he spent 25 minutes trying to find a way he could walk out. All the nearby shores had sharp drops and Neil couldn’t use his hands to swim so he had to look further downstream. He would’ve made better time but he could only go so fast underwater.
After reaching shore, he spent 45 minutes digging a hole with his bare hands. Sense the system said that he couldn’t store items yet, he decided that he’d keep the cores in a hole until the game started.
Once he had completed digging the hole he spent another 20 minutes gathering sticks and leaves to cover the top. It would’ve been shorter but Neil had decided to keep the hole closer to the water rather than the forest. He’d figured that once the game started there’d be monsters in the forest.
Because he had his hands free on the way back he was able to swim there. He noticed that he felt weighted as he swam and figured that it was the same reason that he sank. After taking 5 minutes to get there and 25 to get back to shore, Neil decided to rest.
By the time the sun was setting on his first day in Wakana, Neil had gathered 15 cores. He would’ve had 16 but he had dropped one into a crevice half way back to shore and was too tired to care. Having counted the cores and knowing that there were 43 cores left, including the one he dropped, Neil decided that he’d get them tomorrow. But he never got the chance.
