[Chapter 9]

[Chapter 9]

The red tip drag against the igniter patch beside the matchbox, it burst out into a small flame. The small beautiful fire is hypnotizing to look at, and through that flaming red, I could see the fear on the woman's face. If I remember what fear feels like, it is the terrifying and painful thought that plagues your mind when you can predict the future of you getting harm by something.

Like a man standing at the edge of the cliff then he looks down at the sharp rocks that are waiting for him at the bottom, he can imagine the pain he would feel if his body were to be stabbed by sharp rocks and see the end of his life. For example, Arete right now is thinking about how her blood inside of her body is going to be boil by the heat while her skin would be lick by the fire that is going to sear her entire body like a steak on a sizzling pan.

My finger flicks the burning matchstick, it flies and lands on the woman's lap. I can hear her scream as the fire grow from a tiny flame, engulfing her entire lap. She pleads for me to put out the fire, but I merely stand where I am and watch as the fire consumes both of her legs.

Her body wiggle like a worm as she tries to get out of her bind.

Scream.

Scream.

Continuous screaming is all I hear.

She wouldn't stop screaming. Of course, she wouldn't stop, burning to death is one of the most painful death there is. Her clothing begins to turn into char as the fire engulfs her entire body and burns her hair into ash. The horrible smell of fat and hair being burn rise up to my nose causing me to take a couple of steps back to stop myself from breathing it in.

Even with the fire consuming her entire body, she still squirming like a worm.

The flame spread to her partner and the wooden crate behind her. I shouldn't splash that much gasoline at them because some of it lands behind them on the wooden box. The raging fire spread to the wall of the warehouse in a matter of seconds, it's my cue to leave this place, and head to Zatax tower.

In the midst of the crackling fire, my hearing catch a glimpse of a small plastic object falling to the floor, coming from the young girl. My head turns to look and see a Ran Mitake keychain is lying on the floor along with what's look like apartment keys. I stare at the keychain for a long time before I notice the hungry fire are heading toward me, I don't know why, but that single keychain just wouldn't let me go. I let out a sigh as both of my shoulders relax and walk to the young girl.

After pulling out my knife, I cut her restraint to release her, and lift her slender body with my arms then carry her with me toward the door. The bright night sky once again lays its gentle light on me, I walk to the passenger side of the SUV and opens its door. I gently set her back against the leather seat and make sure both her feet are in the car before shutting the door close. Then I run back into the warehouse to grab the keychain that was on the floor and grab the tire iron that I forget to bring it with me from the table along with one of the handgun.

I walk back to the car, enter the driver's side, placing the tire iron and the handgun at the back seat then take out the car keys I got from frisking the two of them while they were unconscious. With the car keys, I start the engine and turn on the headlights. The light shines across the dark street in front of the car, my eyes move to the car window beside me where I see the massive fire growing inside of the warehouse.

Arete is unmoving on her chair while the fire burns her body to cinders. Owen's body is the same, unmoving so do the large man laying on the floor, Orrin. Every single one that was involved in Daisie's murder is dead except for the last man, I will come for him, and there will be no place for him to run or hide.

The car engine let out a roar as it drives down the road.

*

Two loud firetrucks with the sirens on drive pass my vehicle and head toward the opposite direction to where I was earlier. I could still see the burning warehouse in the side-view mirror, my eyes set back at the road and drive calmly to avoid attention.

My eyes glance at the young girl sitting in the passenger seat beside me. I should have left her back in the warehouse because she will only cause me trouble, why did I save her? I don't know where to leaves her, maybe at the sidewalk or the alley somewhere?

No, I can't leave her behind like that. The Ran Mitake keychain dangle from my hand as I grab on the steering wheel, my eyes glance between it and the road. I can hear her voice again at the back of my mind because this keychain keeps reminding me of her.

A memory of us playing D&D together pops into my head, like a channel switch after someone press a button on the remote.

"I rolled 12."

"Your hatchet connect with the dragon neck, cutting it open and causing it to spew its fiery lava blood onto the ground below it." I move the dragon piece away, letting her rogue/barbarian character through it.

"Yass!!" She celebrates her victory with a small dance with her hands, and I remember letting out a smile.

"And now the path to the treasure chest is now free of any obstacle." I gesture at the straight path on the map.

"You think I would fall for that? Hydraninja will never fall for that, not twice, nor three times. So, I check for traps." She rolls the dice.

I remember grinning at her wariness since she knows that I always put a trap to mess with her, "You found nothing, the path is free of any traps."

"Check again!" She rolls the dice again.

"Still no traps."

"Again!" She rolls the dice yet again.

"Daisie, I mean Hydraninja, there is no trap on the path."

"Yeah right.. and I'm the queen of England." The sarcasm coming out from her lips amuse me.

"Don't you trust me?"

"Yeah, I do... I move Hydraninja to the treasure chest." She let out an annoyed smile.

"Will you open it?"

"No! I bring down my hatchet on it." She rolls the dices.

I let out a laugh, "You got me, you kill a mimic, and it melts into a puddle then revealing the real treasure hidden in the hole behind the fake one."

"I knew it, you sneaky bastard." A smug smirk appears on her face.

I remember her empty room, and only the two of us was in it, "Shouldn't we get more friend to play with us, two people playing D&D doesn't it get stale?"

"Like who? We have no other friends besides I like playing with just the two of us. It's like a date." She keeps smiling even with a reddened cheek, playing those sentences like a joke. That was one of the signs of Daisie showing her true feelings, and I didn't notice it.

The memory disappears into nothingness, and the dark empty road greets my eyes as I hear a moan coming from the young girl beside me. I take a good look at her and finally notice the Asian physical characteristic that she has, the slanted eyes, flatter face, and smaller nose alongside her European feature, brunette hair, and rosy pale skin.

Her eyes blink a couple of times, in her daze-like state she takes a look at me. "Who are you?"

"Nobody." I look back at the road.

"Are you...one of the bad guys?" She mumbles.

"No—I kill them... They won't come after you."

A single tear slide down her cheek, "Thank you..."

"I didn't do it for you, I didn't come to save you, and I don't need your thanks."

"Where are you taking me?"

"The hospital. Go back to sleep..."

She closes her eyes and sleeps away with no worry whatsoever. My eyes look at the rear-view mirror, and I see something horrible. Daisie is sitting in the back seat, her hair is cover in specks of dirt, her left pupil is dead white, her right eyes is only an empty socket with dirt falling out, half of her jaw hangs from her left cheek, her tongue is hanging from her throat and worms burrow into her cheek.

If anyone can see what she looks like in the mirror, they would scream in horror, but my emotions are gone, I didn't feel anything. The disfigured Daisie snarl at me with anger, but I focus on the road.

'What are you doing? She has seen your face. She will expose you, think about your mother, and how she will be shocked to see what her son has done!'

'Kill her! Leave her at an alley and end her life!'

'No.'

'What do you mean no?'

'I won't do it, Daisie wouldn't want me to do it.'

'Daisie!? Do you think, Daisie, want this? Does she want you to kill those people? Do I want anything? No!'

'I, no... Daisie is dead! She doesn't want anything!'

'Don't make this about her. You! Wanted this!'

'Now! Don't be a fool and kill her!'

'I don't want to do it.'

'Suddenly, you're growing a conscience? You were content to leave her behind in the burning warehouse just a moment ago.' She mocks me.

'Shut up,' and she is gone, she isn't in the rear-view mirror or anywhere in the vehicle.

My grip tightens around the steering wheel as I turn the wheel to take a right in the incoming junction. The red 'Hospital' sign shines brightly on top of a large rectangle building with many walkways connected to other smaller buildings around it. I steer the car into the parking lot and park far away from the emergency lobby.

My finger turns the key in the ignition causing the engine to quiet down, I reach for the glove compartment and open it. A bunch of items reveal inside of the slot, I grab all of them and inspect all of them.

I start listing every single thing on my lap, a chest leather strap with a handgun holster and a knife sheath, a pair of black leather gloves, a handgun magazine full of bullets, and a black baseball cap. My hands slip into the leather gloves and wear the chest holster then I take out the knife between my belt and slide it in the sheath.

Turning my body, I reach for the handgun in the back seat, looking at the pistol, I notice it has a rectangle-shaped slide, and it feels comfortable holding the grip with my hand. From what I remember, I've seen this particular gun from the counter-strike game. I believe it was called a Glock, I've seen it a lot in the police tv-show, and cop movies.

The handgun slide into the holster then I slide the extra gun magazine right next to it. I need to cover all these weapons that are strap onto my chest with something. My eyes dart to the leather jacket hanging on the passenger seat, behind the young girl, my hand reached it and put it on. It's a little big for me, but that is the purpose, it is so I can hide the gun underneath.

I zip up the jacket and put on the baseball cap. My eyes glance at the young girl beside me, she is still asleep, I take out the keys from the ignition and store them in my pocket. My hand reaches for the door handle beside me and gets out after the door is open. Closing the door behind me, I walk to the opposite side of the automobile from where I am and open the passenger door.

She moans as I slide my hands underneath her knees and her back before I slowly lift her up and out of the vehicle. After the girl is out of the passenger side, I bump the door with my hip to close it and start walking toward the emergency lobby.
