Day one into the void was pure chaos, and day as we know it did not exist yet, so this whole timeframe I’m establishing is nothing more than a contrivance for story telling purposes. But reality as we know it did start to exist, a bounded reality within our human concept of space-time. The bounds of this newfound space are the outer perimeter of the singularity, ever expanding as it sucks in more of the consciousness. The time existed in the present, pushing towards the future, and inevitably becoming the past; Moreover, the progression of time differed depending on the relative position within the singularity, moving at a near infinite rate at the outer perimeter, and coming to a near standstill at its exact center. Now this was the universe of space-time, and if this is a hard concept for you to grasp, ellipses, look up from your computer, and slap yourself in the face, for this is our actuality.
The pieces of consciousness that entered the singularity began experiencing something for the first time, something that wasn’t nothing, and something that mattered. Being pulled from a universe of nothingness into one of space-time is a very traumatic experience. For the consciousness would see everything from its previous universe as a dream. A dream with no beginning or end, where nothing happened (which was also everything), and taking place nowhere (which is also everywhere). The various pieces of consciousness could not conceive of where they came from, and did not know where they were going, simply understanding the nature of this new reality took the entirety of their mental power. Or was it mental powers? If an unknown number of new beings were brought into existence at the same time through the same means, experienced the same things, and faced the same obstacles, isn’t it likely that they would have identical thought processes? But these beings were not identical, and even with identical thoughts running though their minds, the proceeding actions of these various beings would not be the same. Some pieces of consciousness would decide to stay put and contemplate existence in the random part of the universe they ended up. Others would choose an arbitrary direction, wander for an arbitrary amount of time, and see what happens. And of course like with any gathering of individuals, there were those incapable of thinking for themselves and tagged along with whomever and did whatever.
This novel's true home is a different platform. Support the author by finding it there.
As time progressed consciousness spread throughout the universe, evolved into a variety of forms, being that of matter; and as a matter of fact, the various forms taken mattered, and the differences between these matters mattered. Eventually becoming true individuals with independent thoughts and actions. As time progressed further these conscious forms went through cycles of both existence and non-existence, as well as inadvertently reshaping themselves into new beings. Eventually this led to a hodgepodge of things, some containing consciousness and some not, until the chaos of the universe began to stabilize into one of formation.
The more matter something had, the more it mattered, with the greatest of matter acting like a magnet which pulled lesser matter towards it. Consciousness no longer existed in such massive quantities, but it did not exist completely independent of the massive matter either. In fact the minuscule consciousnesses were in many ways dependent on the massive matter for its continual existence. The various beings that came into and out of existence had an infinity of names and means of describing not only themselves, but the universe of matter that they existed in. For now we will focus on one particular group of individuals within this universe of matter, a society, a society stemming from a planet which is orbiting a star on the edge of some galaxy somewhere within this universe.
From far away this galaxy would seem to be nothing more than a dim light, but as you get closer this light becomes a collection of lights. As you move closer this collection of lights begins to surround you until one of these lights becomes so close that it outshines everything else becoming the only thing of notice. At this point you are within this lights domain, the edge of a solar system where this light takes center stage. But our story is not about some luminescent celestial body, it is about a pale blue dot. A pale blue dot orbiting the star which is the center of this solar system. On this pale blue dot is an advanced civilization, one with technologies and ideologies far surpassing our own, existing in a universe of matter and space-time, that exist inside a singularity within a universe of nothingness.
