The last thing I remember is running away from something with my mom in the middle of a desert, I must have been about 4 years old.
To try to protect me, my mother hid me inside a hole and was scared I tried to get out of there to be near her but a door appeared in front of me and I ended up going inside it.
A magical door that led to a sacred library that appears only to those who are very keen to obtain something.
Once inside this library, I had access to a plethora of knowledge. The door behind me had closed and there was only a stark white landscape left, it was like I was stepping into a stark white void.
That emptiness began to take shape and color and when I realized a library had materialized in front of me, it was identical to the library that existed in the city I was born.
I looked around for someone but didn't find anyone but inside me, I had the intuition to go to a shelf and get a book. Interestingly enough, I could read the book, I found out later that there are many ways for you to absorb the knowledge of that place.
I read book after book without getting tired or hungry and sometimes holograms would pop up to teach me something complexes like mana control and flow.
There are a total of seven rooms within the library each representing the knowledge of each sage and each race, after acquiring all the knowledge of one room you could move to the next and acquire a mark on your right arm that identified you as an apprentice.
For a long time I tried to enter the seventh room which was spiritual knowledge but every time I entered it I was faced with a totally white and empty environment as if there was nothing there.
I spent approximately 16 years inside that place getting to know the world and how it works and in the end, I received some artifacts.
The most curious artifact I received was a cube-shaped artificial intelligence that reacted to my mana and obeyed only me, answering all the doubts I might have and helping me to survive.
When I finally left that place I could already be considered a sage and I was very curious to venture into the world but my first challenge was already facing me, a huge desert.
"Starting, calculating...the current temperature is...low air humidity...will you just stand there staring at me?"
Surprisingly that cube started talking to me I was surprised and started asking him questions. As expected, that cube really answered all my questions from the simplest to the most complex.
Apparently, he is an invention of the sage Lucifer who tried to create a perfect artificial life form.
"I'm not alive, I'm just programmed to understand and do whatever you say"
The cube insisted on saying it wasn't alive but its behavior said otherwise. How does a thing that is not alive have feelings?
I started to go deeper into the desert using the huge abyss that cut across the desert as a guide. That chasm was the aftermath of a catastrophic event hundreds of years ago and spanned the entire continent.
If you stumble upon this narrative on Amazon, it's taken without the author's consent. Report it.
A warm breeze hit my face and small particles of sand came with it, I had to create a hood to keep walking. My throat was dry all the time, it hadn't been a day since I left the library and I was already considering going back.
Luckily it was my knowledge that that chasm led north where there was a beastly city that I could stay in for a while.
I didn't know exactly where in the desert I was so I just started walking north using the abyss as a reference.
Hours walking, I had a magic backpack with practically infinite space and a lot of water stored in it that I got inside the library.
"Careful... underground tremors have been detected"
The cube began to move as if it were scanning the environment, warning me of tremors.
"Life form detected underground..."
As the cube spoke, a desert worm aggressively emerged from the ground. I took a step back but was not alert as desert worms avoid consuming meat, their diet is based on small fragments of condensed mana that rises deep in the sands.
I was calm and thought about just going my way, but that worm seemed to be staring at me... even though it didn't have eyes.
The worm was big... much bigger than me, it had an orange coloration and decided to attack me. I didn't know why that creature was attacking me, it was my knowledge that it doesn't attack other living beings.
"Error... It doesn't make sense this worm is attacking us"
Even the cube knew it didn't make any sense, and for a moment I thought maybe it was his presence that was making the creature try to eat us.
The creature made several advances on us, going in and out of the ground, digging many holes, I just dodged jumping through the air without doing anything trying to think of a reason for that.
"You're going to be dodging this thing for how long?"
The cube looked impatient so I decided to finish it.
The cube was very useful, made of a highly malleable magical material, I molded its shape into that of a short black sword with a core of energy at the beginning of its blade.
The blade's hardness and cutting edge depended directly on the amount of mana imbued in it and how efficiently you used it.
In one of the worm's advances, I jumped into its mouth among its thousands of spinning teeth and entered its interior unharmed. This type of worm can't close its mouth due to its cylindrical shape so it was easy to get inside.
The worm's skin was not very resistant, but I decided to cut it from the inside out due to the ease of killing it this way. It is difficult to kill a desert worm from the outside as it has a thin shell around its body that helps it glide through the sand.
There aren't a lot of fluids inside a desert worm as it only consumes sand so I just opened it from the inside and it came out of its body with dust on its clothes.
With the worm dead on the ground, I could only think about eating it. I was hungry, had forgotten the fact that I had to eat.
Inside the library, you don't need to feed or drink water, as there are numerous spells that supply your energy needs, so after several years without eating I ended up forgetting this detail.
The feeling of eating something after such a long time is very weird, the meat of that worm was tough and salty, probably because he lived consuming minerals in the desert underground.
It shouldn't be an option to eat that but as I was very hungry I ate it anyway. I didn't know what good flavor was so for me it was reasonably good.
The night in this desert is difficult especially when you are on the side of a huge abyss releasing huge amounts of mana that attracts strange and dangerous creatures. The temperature can drop a lot, what used to be a hot place during the day becomes an extremely cold and dry place at night
To protect me from harm I used the surrounding sand to build a dome around myself. If you're smart enough you can use mana to do all sorts of things, from commanding the environment to "creating" matter, in the latter case you would need to be an absurd wizard.
"The cold doesn't come in, the heat comes out"
