Chapter 3: interlude 1

Chapter 3: interlude 1

This day was wildly different from any Arnold had ever experienced. He had been given a glorious purpose, one that would help save this dying world. He had heard of the project that was to save everyone, but he never thought he would be part of it, even if was just being used as a work horse to carry out the labor.

“Snap back to reality arny, stop slacking and get to work” his superior yelled loud enough to snap Arnold out of his thoughts.“ Your slacking would disappoint the great one.”

“Yes sir, sorry Dr. Brumus ” Arnold made sure to put enough timidness into his voice to not get reprimanded again. He shuddered at the thought of when he had gone through reeducation.

Arnold was an acolyte, at the very bottom of the food chain. He did as he was told and today he was told to record everything he could see about the people of the future. The one in front of Arnold was a skinny man, his index card said he was someone called “Maximilian”. The man wasn't in the best shape, but if Gilligan had been here, he would have recognized the man. He had at least three cuts on each wrist and rope burns around his neck, he was skinny and his card said he was suffering from multiple different types of cancer. If Arnold had not seen him breath he would have assumed the man was dead. When Arnold put his observations of the man into the database he also saw that the man already had an entry in the database.

When the next sacrifice for the future was pushed into Arnold's station he saw that she had two of the holy hands holding her down and they were struggling to hold her from thrashing. Arnold was handed an index card with her information, he looked over it and he understood.

“Oh holy hands, do you need help subduing this one?” Arnold asked the two big brutes that were smaller than the massive woman. The woman looked like she had eaten a bodybuilder for breakfast and boxed a bear to work off the extra calories.

“We need this one to be incapacitated, she is resisting the future” they both spoke at the same time and in such a tone that it was hard to tell their voices apart.

Arnold grabbed a GECOIM standard incapacitation baton and jammed the taser end into her stomach, the yellow sparks making her twitch.

“By the might and the will of he who commands you. Submit to the future and you might be worthy of saving." Arnold yelled into the big woman's face. And she yelled what might have been curses in some other language.

“I won't submit. Back off and I won't kill all of you right here.” She had a Scottish or maybe a Welsh accent when she spoke.

Arnold bumped the taser up a level to hopefully knock her out quickly. With brute strength she pushed one of the holy hands off of her hand and she brought that hand around and hit Arnold like a truck which launched him back a few feet. with one of her hands free she grabbed the incapacitation baton and jammed it into the other holy hand before the one she had hit got up. Now unrestrained she grabbed the first holy hand and wrenched on his neck until it released a sickening snap. The second holy hand tried to grapple her from behind, but she dropped a hammer blow to his spine and he dropped off of her like a sack of wet sand.

“Your turn little man” her accent made it sound like two boulders were being rubbed together rather than any normal human speaking.

Arnold grabbed a GECOIM standard kill baton, and hoped that because of how well she resisted the incapacitation baton, that the kill baton didn't kill her. Right as she threw a punch that was sure to hit Arnold's face, he jabbed the baton into her thigh. The baton had done what Arnold hoped, it hadn't killed her. Her punch had also done what she hoped, it sprayed chunks of Arnold’s skull halfway to the back wall of his work station.
