A few more error messages scrolled by, this was getting overwhelming. I tried to calm down and think rationally, but none of this made sense. The dark space felt like it was crushing me, the weight of thousands of gazes was making it hard to think clearly. One final error message caught my eye.

Error: introduction interrupted, minor admin tools granted.

As I woke back up after what felt like the fourth or fifth time in too short of a time period, a blue box appeared in front of me. I tried to walk around it, but the box moved with me, it took up too much of my vision to see the room I had woken up in.

Personal alert: You are the first person with a common tier class, you have been granted: 1 common pet token, 1 common pet care kit, 1 uncommon: pet evolution stone, 1 rare: pet evolution stone. Items have been deposited in your inventory.

Personal alert: you have used your inventory ahead of the tutorial sanctioned schedule. Your tutorial has been disabled.

All of the sudden the blue boxes disappeared and I could see the room I was in. It was an approximately 20 foot by 20 foot by 20 foot room made out of white marble with little specks of black and gold in it. there were two doors on either side of the room, both were identical.

“Where am I” now that I had my voice back I decided to talk out loud “hold on gilligan, you need to calm down, a lot of stuff happened. You got hit by a car, signed a contract you didn't read, got put into a torture machine” the thought of the torture I endured started a sharp pain in the back of my neck, which dropped me to my knees.

“You are in your starting room?” a gruff voice stated like it was a widely known fact. “It's the one you get to customize as you please”

“Who are you? Where are you? Where am I? What's going on?” I jumped at the voice and turned in circles but didn't see anyone.

“I'm your trainer, and I'm down here you giant” The reason I didn't see who had spoken was because they were really short and I had looked over them.

“What is going on, how am I here” I asked the little person again

“Didn't you go through the tutorial? that should explain everything” I used my questionable knowledge on fantasy races to figure out that he probably a dwarf

“No I didn't, I don't know what's happening” I had to take a few deep breaths. So much had happened in what felt like the last few hours, but it had probably been nearly a month since I got hit by that car.

“Hold on, let me look at your status… What, how do you have a tier two class? And enough resources to get a pet and evolve it to RARE? Nope, we have time, I'll explain the basics.” the dwarf took a deep breath “so, when you entered you should have had the option to choose between three basic classes, offense, defense, and support. But you have a common class, which should only happen when you get skills and abilities. Classes increase in rarity when you get skills and abilities that customize your class a little. That is the most I can tell you without you going through the first challenge, but I can help you get that pet of yours, just give me the pet token.

I didn't know if I should trust the dwarf, but I didn't know what was going on and he did, so I supposed he was my best bet in getting a grounding in my new temporary life, I recalled back to Dr. Brumus, he had said that this was like a game show, so I’d win, and then I could go back to my old life.

“Fine, what does this pet token do? what help would a pet be anyway?” I responded to his earlier request and gave him the token, which I pulled out of my inventory without even thinking about it. The knowledge of how to do it just popped into my head like it was muscle memory.

“Pets at basic tier are just normal animals, but at common tier, which is what your token will get you, pets start to get a little more unique as they get a little closer to their apex state which is the highest form of evolution an animal can reach. An uncommon tier and rare tier are stronger and more unique. Pets can evolve up to legendary tier but after rare tier they need to evolve on their own.”

The dwarf took the token in his hand and blew on it, when he did that it turned into a fine blue mist which recondensed into a comically large roulette-style wheel with 24 wedges most of the wedges were the same size and had normal pets on them like cat or dog or lizard, but then some of the wedges shrunk and their labels changed from normal pets to weirder ones like Cetus or Makara or Bugbear. With no extra fan fair he grabbed the wheel and spun it, after a few revolution it slowed down, it looked like it was going to stop on something called a Dungavenhooter but slowly slid past that and landed on something called a Salvator merianae

“Tough luck kid, that's still a common but it might as well be a basic with how little it can actually do” the dwarf pulled a small egg out of the back of the floating wheel and handed it to me “we can use the uncommon evolution stone on your pet right now if you want?”

“Why not, how much of an advantage will an uncommon pet give me?” I Handled the egg with the utmost care

“Right now, no one else will have a pet, so it will be a true tidal force on any battle field, just take the first evolution stone and touch it to the egg” it dwarf started to stare into space like he was looking at something only he could see

I took the uncommon evolution stone out of my inventory just like I had for the pet token, the stone was a bright forest green, it was about the size of a golf ball and it radiated heat like it had a life of its own. Time seemed to slow as I brought the egg and the stone together. As the stone hit the egg, it turned into a light green liquid and rippled across the surface of the egg. The egg grew and started to crack, a blinding light shown from the cracks.

Personal alert: you have used an uncommon evolution stone on a common pet egg. Choose the apex evolution path your pet will follow for future evolutions.

Option 1: Argentine giant tegu (prime).

Option 2: seven tailed crocodile.

Option 3: four winged sun snake.

Option 4: (hidden option) bind your pet to you by blood, and it will evolve in unpredictable ways that are influenced by your needs and wants.

As I looked over the list of options, time around me seemed to freeze. I immediately eliminated option one. snakes are cool, but I liked lizards better so I also eliminated option 3. I realized if I wanted to get a grounding in this new world, that I would need something that could conform with what I wanted. I took the leap of faith and picked option 4. As soon as I vocalized my choice, my entire body started to throb with intense pain.

Warning: low health, 5/100 HP

Personal alert: your pet is being blood bound, syncing evolution to your blood.

Personal alert: blood bound pets grant additional effects: +2 to all stats, Ability: blood bound companion.

ENTER PET NAME:

I had to name it, I wanted the name to be impressive, but realistic. I assumed it was still going to be a reptile based on all of the options, so something like the Titanoboa, or Megalania. But I wanted the name to be more fancy than that. That's when I got the idea to name it “Titania” after Uranus's biggest moon.

Pet name: “Titania” has been accepted

The egg started to vibrate as the light seemed to spill out of its entire surface. The green liquid got entirely absorbed by the egg as the vibrations reached a crescendo. With one final burst of light the egg shattered. The creature that had been in the egg fell out of my hands when the egg shattered and landed on the floor with a thump. Whatever had been in the egg was what was glowing, the entire room was still illuminated. As the light started to die out, I looked at the creature to make sure the drop hadn't hurt it. When I looked down I saw something that should not have been in an egg of that size. On the ground in front of me was a 5 foot long monitor lizard, with dorsal plates and a thagomizer like that from a stegosaurus, except the plates and the thagomizer were glowing a dim blue and had small Electric arcs jumping around like playful little children running around on a playground.

Personal alert: you have helped birth a new unique creature. +2 to skill: blood bound companion

Personal alert: 2 skill levels have granted you 2 free stat points

I kneeled down in front of it. No, I kneeled down in front of her. The blood bound companion skill gave me snippets of knowledge from titania and a vague sense of her emotions and very limited knowledge of her thoughts.

“You are so adorable” I reached out and scratched under her chin and she started making a noise that was somewhere between a cat purring and a volcano imploding on itself. The noise rose in volume until her dorsal plates were vibrating and the electric arcs were darting around faster then my eye could track.

“That's no uncommon pet, what did you do boy? No, That doesn't matter, the challenge is coming up soon and I have a few more things I can teach you." I had forgotten the dwarf was standing there until he spoke. “I have two things I can unlock for you, the ability to use the skill identify, and your status.”

Personal alert: the skill: “identify” has been unlocked.

Personal alert: you may now view your status by thinking “status”

The first thing I did was use identify on titania. Then I pulled up my own status.

Pet: titania (lvl:1) bound to Gilligan. HP:100, MP:300

Abilities: blood bound companion (lvl:3). force plates (lvl:1). Summon lighting spirit (lvl:1). Tail strike (lvl:1). Claw rake (lvl:1). imbue strike (lvl:1)

Status. Name: Gilligan Farris. HP: 120, MP: 60. Free stat points:2

Strength:10 (+2). dexterity:10 (+2).intelligence: 10 (+2) willpower:10 (+2).

Abilities: blood bound companion (lvl:3). Identify (lvl:1)

“All your stats should be at 10, that's where they should start. If you use identify more it will level up, once a skill levels up it will give you one free stat point which you can use to increase your stats permanently by one. Your class determines how effective your stats are, it also determines how many skills you can get and what type of skills you can attain.” the dwarf walked up behind me and stared at Titania with fascination “use identify on me, why don't you”

I did as he said and tried to use identify on him, but I felt like the skill was hitting a wall or something. I pushed harder on the skill until a blue box popped up in the corner of my vision.

Name: Girgrir Icehorn. HP: unknown. MP: unknown. Class: Frostcaller brute (unknown).

Personal alert: identity has gained 3 levels. +3 free stat points

“You managed to identify my class and name. Good job. Since your class is a fast attacker, dexterity would probably be the most effective stat, with strength and intelligence being tied in second. But let me warn you, don't forget to put any points in willpower, having imbalanced stats would be worse than not having the stats at all.” Girgrir had taken on a lecturing tone when another blue notification appeared

Game wide alert: the first of three mandatory challenges will start in 3 hours, the challenge will be a series of puzzle rooms and combat scenarios of increasing difficulty. You will be split into 16 groups of eight. You will have the opportunity to make an alliance and a party with the people you will be stuck with. The challenge will go on until half of the participants have been eliminated. The more rooms a participant clears the more leaderboard points they will earn. GOOD LUCK AND THANK YOU FOR PARTICIPATING.
