Ch 1-3
"[Ask]."
In my desperation, I muttered a keyword to the guard.
It's much easier if I didn't think of him as an actual person.
"What would you like to know about the Beginner's City?"
There goes by the long explanations when I asked him to explain basically everything. Did he actually have no one to talk to the entire time?
I might just be overthinking stuff again.
Based on the information I got, this place was called the Beginner's City due to its success on nurturing rookie adventurers. The enemies in here were relatively weak, thus made it a good stepping stone for most adventurers. It was said, that the legendary Hero himself once started out as an adventurer in here.
The city had its own Shopping District containing weapon, armor, and items shops etc; the Adventurer Guild was also nearby along with various Inns. The Residential District was divided for nobles and commoners. The Feudal Lord in charge was a noble by the name of Sir Theodore Gustav. His residence and office were at the border between commoner and noble district and he welcomed the visit of people in need regardless of social status.
Seems to be a decent person.
Other than that, there's the Temple District where the Church and Holy Order HQ were present and the Docks District, where the Commerce Guild lies. There used to be the Mercenary Guild in that district but due to the prolonged peace between the nations, it was disbanded.
As for the current affairs, the relationship between Adventurer's Guild and Holy Order weren't that amiable, but it wasn't as bad. They thought of each other as rivals, to say the least.
About the nation, the guard said: this nation belonged to the Holy Empire Dei Magnus, a religious nation headed by the Pope. The religion of Dei Magnus was about the worship of the Creator and His Son, who sacrificed his life for the salvation of humanity. The Son was said to be the Legendary Hero who defeated the Demon King at the cost of his own life and through his sacrifice, no matter what evil tried to erase the hero's lineage, the heritage shall never be stopped.
When the 'Holy Nation' thing came out, I reckon this was a nation of prudes so I refrain on asking any further. Well, the city itself wasn't that church-looking—but I could still restrain myself.
When push comes to shove, the power of my right hand shall follow!
Well, I've exhausted the list of questions I brought up with the ask menu.
"Hello! Welcome to---"
"Any ideas on what a newcomer like me should do?"
"If you are tired, sir, you can go to the Inn and rest. After that, the main deal was to register at the Adventurer's Guild, you see! They have lots of jobs with decent payments, but most importantly, it's where you could choose your class and they also help you choose based on your strengths."
"Got it, thank you very much."
"Hello! Welcome to--"
Gah, so annoying....what's the deal with this guard?
Just when I was about to walk inside the city, the guard stopped me in my tracks.
"New to the city? First of all, you need an ID to enter all cities, sir. The cost to make one ID is a silver coin!"
[Yes] [No]
I didn't know the value of one silver coin, but it should be lower than gold, I think. I choose [Yes].
[Acquired ID Card!]
"Thanks for your cooperation, please enjoy your stay at Beginner's City!"
I looked at my menu again and saw around 44,9 gold. So this also had the feature to instantly trade spare changes. One gold coin was equal to a ten of these silver coins huh.
Just as I thought, the [ID Card] was on the [Key Items] section. There were a few categories: Consumables, Equipment, Material and Key Items. Consumables refer to stuff like health potions, antidote, herb, and stuff. Equipment referring to things you equip, things I already got at hand without any spares were grayed out. Unlike in real life, the equips had no durability, meaning you didn't even need to maintain yours.
Materials refer to the list of monster drops and misc. Ingredients, as for Key Items, well, it's for important stuff.
When I asked the guard again, the ID was the base form for civilians, it was either upgraded into [Adventurer's Card] or [Holy Order Membership]. Since I needed to get my class straight away, I should go to the Adventurer's Guild first.
..
As for the city's scenery, how should I put it--I wasn't that good at describing things. The concrete roads were well maintained and its pretty spacious as well. There were buildings made out of bricks, cement, steel—generally modern materials, yet still retained a medieval look. There were gaslights all over the place, must be a magic tool. A lot of people doing their own stuff and there's also a lot of food stands and shops.
I tried to talk to as many random people I felt like talking to.
"Life in this city was so peaceful, I sometimes forgot there are monsters around until I go out!"
"Sir Kevin of Holy Order is so cool! His speech on becoming the town's shield was so dreamy....oh lord...I'm such a sinful woman."
"Mister, please give me candy, Mommy said never receive candy from strangers so it's fine if I'm the one asking it. Oh, you don't have any? Okay then."
I was curious what she'd do if I gave her candy, later on, maybe I should've brought some later.
That to be said, I ended up talking to a number of people who kept repeating the same thing. It was without me using [Ask] query. If I did so, I would spend days just to listen to so many trivial things. I gave up midway since there are so many people around. At the very least, they kept walking back and forth in the same place though.
Support creative writers by reading their stories on Royal Road, not stolen versions.
As for the information I learned, I knew most of them already from the guard, so I'd just move on the moment I thought it's boring enough.
There's also the Paladin people, the Holy Order members who patrolled the town. They generally gave the same information as the guards. After asking two members, who gave the exact same response, just with different voices—I'm out.s
I also tried to examine every box and pot I could find outside before entering some of the houses and did the same thing.
[Received small potion!]
[Received herb!]
[Received aurora pickle!]
{Received.....]
I gave up, this city was just too large.
I guess I couldn't treat this world similar to an RPG game, there's just something I had to leave away.
Well, it's good that people didn't seem to react at all when I was poking on their trash bins.
"[Go to]"
I tried muttering another query word. I really had no idea but this kinda stuff seemed like my second nature, this was probably one of my so-called 'cheat skills'.
The top-down map of this city filled my sight and there were lists of places that I could visit.
[Inn]
[Item Shop]
[Weapon / Armor Shop]
[Adventurer's Guild]
[Feudal Lord's Mansion]
[Church]
So the Holy Order Headquarters couldn't be visited at the moment huh.
I choose [Inn] since the day's gotten pretty dark from all the exploration earlier. The sunset was pretty beautiful, with red clouds obscuring the sun.
In a blink of an eye, I immediately found myself in a building with an interior made out of solid wood. Curtains draped all over the window, with warm light from the magic lamps; creating a comfy atmosphere to wine and dine all day. Various adventures could be seen sitting at their table, either with food, drinks at hand or simply chatting with their party; some even stood in the corner; It was quite lively.
I approached the counter, in which manned by a middle-aged guy with a thick beard; his clothing was pretty rough and he had well-toned muscles. He was probably an ex-adventurer.
"Welcome to Monkey Island Cymbals. One night is a silver, including breakfast and dinner. For lunch, you had to pay extra."
I paid in full for a few nights, which amounted to about three silvers. I received the key and ordered my dinner portion early; eating in front of the innkeeper cuz I also want to gather info from him. Since this might take long I would just eat while listening.
When I queried with him, it seemed this Inn was the popular pick amongst the adventurers. For rich merchants and nobles, they mainly stayed at the hotel near the Temple District. For those associated with the Holy Order, they could even stay at the church.
There were a lot of Inns in the city, but this man guaranteed me, this Inn would be the undisputed best either in cheap prices and service. Well, I couldn't argue with it, since when it came to [Inn] I was transported here.
Conversation, like always, went one way. It's good since my actions weren't questioned at all.
The food was pretty luxurious. It was a vegetable salad with steak, plus fruit juice and pudding. The salad had a dressing of sweet n' sour thousand island sauce and the steak was served in hot plate, with a bit of spicy chili, sweet sauce and a side of french fries plus sliced veggies. The fruit juice seems to be from pineapple, it had a vibrant taste accompanying its yellow color.
As for the pudding, it had a really thick, tough but creamy texture. It was more like a gelatinous mochi cake than a pudding if you ask me. When I asked the innkeeper, he said it was made from the slime skin. A slime farmer resided in the town's outskirts. He accepted orders from the whole country, even the Pope loves the dessert.
Finishing my conversation with the innkeeper, I received the key and moved to my room. It's the most spacious room on the second floor, at the end of the right corridor.
Entering the room, I took the sandals I worn all the way from my old world. The cool wooden floor felt nice on my feet.
This place was pretty dark due to it the blinds covering it; well it's around evening after all. I flipped the switch near the door. I glanced at the luminous glow from the ceiling, which gave a good illumination to read comfortably. The other switch was a dimmer light, which made me want to sleep somehow.
A spacious double bed in the room, with a bath and toilet, wardrobe, desk and lots of space to put and sort your equipment. There's also a mirror, in which when I gazed at myself, I was still wearing the same clothes from my old world.
Well, I guess that's a part of my cheat-skill on why Fiona didn't even question my attire.
After choosing my class at the Adventurer's Guild, I need to buy some weapons and armor. I might as well try to register there and party up with someone strong, telling them I was a pretty good Support.
I want to learn more about this world so I would explore more and uncover additional things I hadn't known before. I might have enough money to laze around for a while but it's boring if I did nothing.
Especially since this world was akin to games. If I didn't take action, things might as well never change at all.
In the meantime, I took a shit in the toilet plus some bath.
No change of clothes yet so I'll try to prioritize it.
The facilities were about the same high-tech as my previous world.
It's nice the toilet had a flush function. In the meantime, I also relieved myself with my right hand; my rod pointing straight at the toilet hole. The sensation of cumming for the first time in the other world was divine.
Feeling refreshed, well--it's time to gather my thoughts for a bit.
