Step… Step… Step…
I walk down the hall, people all around me. I follow the flow of the crowd, occasionally bumping into people. Today’s quite important, it’s the last day of finals. I’m so close to being fully free from high school, and going into college.
It’s in between the 2nd and 3rd final, and my class being on the other side of the school means I can’t stop to talk to anyone.

A few hours later
I sit on my bed exhausted, my gaze focused on the white popcorn ceiling of my room. I grab my phone from my pocket to check the time, then I put in my headphones. I put loud music on because I wish to avoid any unnecessary conversations.
My efforts to avoid people continue when I’m outside, the bustling streets of the city are full of people on their way home from work. Then it becomes eerily quiet, something I don’t notice until I see it.
There’s a small, strange cat a few feet away from me. The cat has a cute dark purple nose, white tufts coming from its ears, and shifting purple fur covering its body. The most strange thing about the cat is its eyes, which are every color at once. The eyes seem to contain the wisdom, love, and agony of a thousand souls.
I’m unprepared as the cat jumps directly at me, and then the world goes dark.
