50 | Survivor

50 | Survivor

“They’re gone.” Daisy sobbed.

All Sebastian could do was hold her at this point. That vision, Daisy’s memories, revealed so much and yet left him with more questions. Questions he’d probably never have the answers to. He doubted Daisy would ever want to talk about what exactly happened in that house.

What he could gather from the visions and guess work was that Daisy’s father had been a magic user. Her mother and her aunt – or a woman closely related to Daisy’s mother – were both werewolves. Her mother being a delta while her aunt was an alpha – or an omega? She had blue eyes, so it was one of the two. Somehow, the two had gotten into a fight during a house fire. Though Seb wasn’t sure that a fire alone could have caused the house to also have so much blood everywhere. Whatever had happened though, Daisy was the sole survivor.

There was a tentative knock at the door which caused Daisy to tense up. She looked towards the door and took a sniff. “Wolf.”

Sebastian nodded. “That will be Luke, I think. Is it okay if he comes in?”

Daisy looked confused by the question but nodded.

“Great. Come in!”

Luke opened the door slowly and stepped inside with a tray of breakfast. “I got some toast and-”

“Bacon,” Daisy interrupted excitedly.

Luke smiled. “Yeah. There’s also a glass of orange juice and another glass of water. I wasn’t sure which you’d prefer.” He explained as he slowly approached the bed and put the try down in front of her.

“This is all for me?” Daisy asked.

Seb nodded. “You can have more if you’re still hungry afterwards. Just eat slowly, okay. Or you’ll make yourself sick.”

He wasn’t sure if she’d heard anything he said, but she seemed very happy to dig into her meal, so he just smiled. He looked up at Luke, who was already staring at him with a soft concerned expression.

‘You okay?’ He mouthed.

Sebastian nodded and smiled reassuringly. Emotionally, he was feeling a bit overwhelmed right now. But nothing he couldn’t push through. Especially when there were other things to focus on.

“How are things downstairs?”

“Your parents, Miss Persephone and Miss Hayden are downstairs. Edmund is explaining everything to them all. They seemed to be... accepting.”

Seb raised an eyebrow and Luke shrugged.

“Resigned might be a better word, honestly. At this point, the unexpected is just an eventuality.”

Sebastian snorted a laugh. “True. We’re basically living in a supernatural drama.”

“At least it isn’t boring.”

“Yeah, but if this keeps up, we’re going to need some kind of supernatural group chat to keep everyone in the loop. ‘Cause, I don’t know about you, but I don’t want to sit through a long ass meeting every time something happens to us.”

“Who is Edmund?” Daisy asked.

Luke answered, “Our alpha.”

“Oh. I need to greet him, right?”

“Uh, I think it can wait.”

“No. Mama always said the first thing you do in a new territory is respectfully greet the alpha.”

“What do you mean by greeting him?” Seb asked.

Daisy looked at him with as much confusion as was feeling, so Luke stepped in and explained. “When you enter a different pack’s territory, you’re expected to present yourself to the alpha as a show of non-aggression.”

“Oh. Well, I don’t think you have to worry about that. Eddie knows you’re here and don’t mean any harm.”

Daisy shook her head. “It’s mandarin.”

“Do you mean mandatory?”

“Yes, man-date-ory. Mama said so.”

Sebastian shrugged, clearly, this was a losing battle. “Alright. But first, we should get you some proper clothes. Okay?”

“Okay.”

Seb knew his and Ed’s clothes were all going to be too big on Daisy, but Luke was able to find some suitable stuff amongst his things. They were still a bit big on her though, so Sebastian made a mental note to take her clothes shopping once they had a chance.

As they walked down the stairs, Daisy tilted her head to the side like she was listening to something. “There are a lot of people.”

Seb nodded. “Do you want to wait upstairs instead? I can fetch Edmund for you so that you don’t have to be around too many folks at once.”

Daisy shook her head. “I’m okay.”

The determined expression on her face was amusing, but Sebastian managed not to laugh as he led the way to the living room. Once he was able to hear the voices inside though, he paused.

“You’re putting them in danger like this.” Obsidian claimed.

“I’m protecting all of them.” Edmund replied in a frustrated tone.

Seb could practically see the blue glow of his eyes when he heard him speak. The argument must have been building up for a while. He wasn’t sure whether to proceed and break it up or retreat with Daisy first, so she wasn’t witness to whatever happened next. But then,

“You think a child like you can protect them? You’re nothing against that other pack.”

Sebastian never moved so fast in his life. In the blink of an eye, he was face to face with Sid, glaring daggers at the dragon. “What the fuck is your problem?”

Obsidian faltered at the sudden accusation, but Seb didn’t give them time to reply.

“We’re safest here because we’re together. It doesn’t matter how young we are because we can take care of ourselves. Eddie has literally fought for us before and won.”

“He can’t face a pack of military trained wolves.” Sid argued.

“And are you going to leave us to face them on our own? We’ve welcomed you into this house, despite how unpleasant you’ve been, and what? You’re going to just fuck off if trouble comes knocking?”

“I–” Obsidian was quiet for a moment, absorbing everything that had just happened, before he nodded slightly. “I apologise.”

It was Sebastian’s turn to act stunned now. He wasn’t sure exactly what kind of reaction he’d been expecting, but it wasn’t that.

“You are a lot like your father.” Sid said quietly.

He definitely wasn’t expecting that.

Before anyone could react, Obsidian left the room. No one moved for half a beat. Sebastian looked at the others in the room, almost wanting to ask if that had really just happened. Persephone and Emily were beaming with pride, Hayden was too, but in a more subdued manner, while Nick was smilingly in a soft sentimental way. Garret was impressed, Victoria and company were shocked, and Edmund... For once, Seb couldn’t tell what Edmund was feeling.

Before he could figure it out though, Luke was clearing his throat from the doorway, and Sebastian felt quite embarrassed at the realisation he’d abruptly abandoned him and Daisy in the hallway.

“Uh, right. Everyone, this is Daisy.” She wanted to greet Eddie.

Edmund looked over to the girl beside Luke and seemed to freeze. It seemed that much like Seb, he had no idea how to proceed in interacting with her. And just like with Sebastian, Daisy took charge of things and walked over to Ed before making her eyes glow gold.

Edmund’s eyes flashed blue in response and Daisy smiled.

“That went smoother than I thought it would.”

“Gah!”
