Chapter 10: Mourning Statue

Chapter 10: Mourning Statue

After William had learnt the Origins of the God of Ghouls, El-Sharudth, a spark of interest had filled his mind. Fascination and intriguement flooded his thoughts as if a wave had just sunk his mind in it's endless depths of interest.

Though this time, he had questions as well. Questions regarding what the book said to be the 'Remnant of the mother creator of Evernight".

As old questions disappear, new ones appear in his mind.

'what are these Remnants? How did it ascend the God of Ghouls from a Demi-God to an Omnipotent?'

His mind which was once filled with intriguement, now had it's fair share of questions.

Though, those questions Vanished instantly as his head was now filled with worry and anxiousness on the day he Will face the "Three Doors".

William and Henry, along with other operator's and their students sat across the wooden door—the door that once entered, an individual shall proceed to face the "Three Doors"—and William, had his body stiffened from anxiousnes and worry knowing he was next in line.

These feelings appeared, not because he didn't want to mess it up, rather, it was because he had seen the mortified faces and expressions of many students that had came out of the test, barely alive.

Though, it somehow seemed right for William.

"To seek greater things, one must embrace a greater sacrifice"

Ofcourse, he had Made up this line himself, but that doesn't mean it's not true. Infact, the very people that had either failed or completed the "Three Doors" would have realised this, and they did.

'They must have realised' he thought; that this world along with fate itself would be against teh ones who seek greater things then they were supossed to. For William, well... He sees the world as an "unfair" game, just Like the world he used to live in.

And just like he did in his past life, well... He could only see it to the end by desperately hanging from the string of fate and prays of hope.

It felt pitiful, nonetheless, though it was only because of himself, no one else.

The enclosed wooden door had finally swung open with escaping mist as an operator, embracing his traumatised student in his arms walked out of the mist filled room.

"It's okay... It's over now" the operator whispered in a calming tone to the shaking student that held his Coat as if never letting it go.

The student's hands were shaking, as if it he had seen a ghost. Though— In this case, it wouldn't be weird of he did.

Then, a man—wearing a fedora shaped hat with a buttoned suit, who was holding a chipboard in his right hand, suddenly shouted in a calling tone:

"Claude Merrick?"

William turned his head facing Henry as he himself had already looked at him.

Henry gave a slight nod before the two of them walked towards the simple yet frightning door.

Beyond the wooden door, an enormous dome being held up by towering stone pillars that held up it's space, even from Underground. In the middle, was a drawn circular pattern Made from a mysterious red substance.

Even without the man's instruction, he had already knew that what he had to do was to go within the drawn patterns that was before him, and so he did.

As soon as William had stopped on the center of the circular red colored pattern, he had noticed something had changed.

The once Crimson red painted patterns that only had random lines along it's design, now seemed to have reformed itself to represent teh high mountains with bright stars.

Then, the man that held the clipboard in his dominant hand now had lifted both his hands towards him and shouted "Claude Merrick! Can you hear me?" His voiced echoed through the enclosed dome.

"Yes!" William replied, reassuring the man.

He then proceeded to shout:

"Claude Merrick! Soon, a grey mist Will appear before you! And when you see a figure, don't move, just stand still!"

Though William had understood his instructions regarding the grey mist, he did not understand the matter regarding the "figure" that he had just spoken.

'a figure?' he pondered.

He had not Heard of this "figure", even from Henry himself who seemed to have more knowledge than him.

This led to William's worry becoming worse than before.

Then, before he was able to think, grey mist emenated the dome, hiding his presence amidst it's dustfull grey mist. It's dustfull appearence had blinded not only William's field of vision to see outside the grey fog, but also blinded teh vision of teh ones who were beyond the grey fog to see the things that are happening within the circle.

At this point, the circle itself had became a jar, a transparent—no, an invisible jar that had trapped the grey fog inside it.

Henry, though standing in a calming demeanor with his hands crossed and straight face, had grasp his suit, hiding his worry. Because he himself had never entered, nor even challenged the grey fog, he had no idea what was within, and that's what Made him worry, not for himself, but for "Claude Merrick".

William, who was still holding the feeling of anxiousness and worry, now had entangled with another emotion, Nervousness. Ofcourse, because of the sudden appearence of the grey fog itself, his nervousness had significantly sky rocketed. Thankfully, By now, William had calmed down and processed the situation in his head.

'the grey fog finally appeared' he wasn't reminding himself regarding the grey fog, rather, he reminded himself of the "figure" that the man had spoken of.

'figure? Is it a Ghoul? A monster? What is it?' he pondered even more.

Suddenly, he Heard footsteps.

Thud thud

It's sound, getting closer, closer, and closer, until something was visible.

First, a silhouette of a grey feet, then knees, and eventually revealed it's whole body.

William's eyes widened as he gazed upon the Ten foot tall statue with it's uncanny wings that were uneven. It's eyes, covered by a golden ring, and wearing a tunic-like garmet, holding a moon-like necklace that were tied around it's praying hands.

William, remembering the man's word, stood still, doing nothing but standing as he watches the moving statue.

Then, as the statue tilted it's head up, gazing up the filling gray fog that eventually reached the surface of the enormous dome.

Then, as if the statue itself was mourning, it chanted solemn encantations. The encantations that were only coming from teh statue, now came from other place's at the same time, following it's rhythm to match eachother. After the voice had match eachother's rhythm, it's melody became beautiful, to say the less. Though what had caught William's attention was the statue's desperate mourns. It was as if... It was begging for something.

Little-by-little, it became louder until William's ears couldn't whistand it. Because of that, William covered his ears, in pain from the it's screeching voice. Though what seemed strange was.... Even though it's voice was far too loud for teh human ears, William's ears didn't, infact, it was his mind that had been in pain.

Then, because of screeching the mournfull cries, William had sub-conciously screamed from teh pain he experienced while closing his eyes, trying to ease teh pain.

Louder, louder, and louder, until....

Thud

"..."

Sudden silence filled the room.

The mournfull cries had disappeared, as if it was never there in teh first place.

'is it over...?'

He slowly opened his eyes.

A Graveyard, not too big nro too small. Surrounded by withered trees that stretched around the Graveyard, as if encaging it under the night sky that shone blood red with the moon's illumination. The graveyard gave of an eerie feeling that sent goosebumps all throughout his body.

His eyes finally widened as he observes his sudden change of surroundings.

He had many mixed emotion along with questions. But one had stuck out especially:

'where am i?'
