Regis froze on the spot.
“What is that?” asked Jeong-Hwa cautiously, not stopping the Captain from aiming his weapon at Regis.
“T-this is a c-communication tool that w-would allow this great one to contact the team that followed this great one here…” he responded with fear, his eyes wide as he looked at the muzzle of the rifle being pointed at him.
“So like a radio of sorts,” followed up General Hull while looking closer at the tool.
The tool itself did indeed look like some sort of old radio, as it had a few squares in the middle of the device that looked like buttons, while a bigger rounded hole was engraved somewhere at the top of the device.
“This great one does not know what that is…” Regis responded, still frozen in place and his eyes focused on the weapon.
Jeong-Hwa contemplated the device for a second. “Stand down Captain, let us see if it works, ‘cus God knows we need a communication tool that actually works in this place.”
“But, Commander, it could be a weapon! A bomb!” the Captain argued, slightly turning his head to look at Jeong-Hwa while keeping his weapon aimed at Regis.
“It’s fine, I’ll take responsibility for anything that happens here,” she responded as she turned her head to look at General Hull, “Would you agree with this as well?”
General Hull hummed for a moment. “Very well, let's see if this… ‘goblin’ is as friendly as he seems to be.”
Jeong-Hwa did a quick sharp nod and looked at the Captain. “Stand down Captain, but keep an eye on him,” then she looked at Regis, doing a small nod as she said, “Go ahead and contact your team.”
The captain stopped aiming his weapon at Regis by pointing the weapon down, but he didn’t drop his guard as he kept his firing stance ready in case he had to quickly lift up the weapon. Regis also seemed to calm down once the weapon was withdrawn from his face, and he started shakily pressing a few of the buttons on the communication tool.
A static sound came out of the device, sounding similar to a radio, which then suddenly cut off, filling the room with complete silence. It didn’t last long as a clicking sound came out of it, which repeated for a couple of times, and the hole at the top of the device suddenly started glowing blue.
Regis quickly started talking to the glowing part of the device. “This great one is now reporting to—”
“Regis et al!” a voice, coming out of the device, responded with enthusiasm. It sounded like a younger man, somewhere around his mid twenties with what seemed to be a friendly attitude. “Where are you? Do you need to be rescued?”
“No… this great one wouldn’t find himself in trouble, especially more so when this great one—”
“Then is everything alright? We’ve been getting worried about you since you didn’t say anything by the time you were supposed to report,” the voice from the device continued before Regis could say anything more.
“This great one has been in the middle of a most important business! This great one has been using his highest and most complex ways of—”
“Just get to the point!” the voice interrupted.
“Yes… you will see now that this great one through sheer willpower and using great means brought forth by his great intellect that—”
A heavy sigh came out of the device, interrupting Regis again. “If nothing important has happened, then I’ll take it that you’re still in travel, so I’ll hang up now and wait until you reach your destination.”
“No! Wait!” Regis quickly said, pulling the device closer to his face, “This great one has reached the Earth people, and by using his superior skills of—”
“What?!” the voice from the device exclaimed with great surprise, “Why didn’t you start with that?!”
“Well, you shall see now that this great one has been using his—”
“Are they listening to us right now?!” hastily asked the voice from the device.
“Yes… I’m afraid that we are,” said Jeong-Hwa, feeling somewhat awkward about the situation.
There was silence in the room again for a moment as people looked at the device in Regis’ hands. “Well… this is somewhat embarrassing…” the voice said with a lower tone of voice.
“Um… Da’Nuhl? This great one has been working tirelessly, using all the proper and greatest—”
“Please, people of Earth, allow me to introduce myself,” the voice from the device interrupted Regis, pausing for a second as the person from the other side seemed to accommodate himself, “Supreme Commander of the Special Armed Forces of Drokan, Da’Nuhl Dominaris.”
There was a pause for a moment as people took in the name, but it was quickly cut off by Regis. “Allow this great one to introduce the very bright and most beautiful people from Earth by—”

“Let them speak for themselves, I would like to hear it from their voices,” Da’Nuhl interrupted again.
Regis grunted slightly while he murmured to himself, but didn’t say anything out loud as he quickly looked up at both Jeong-Hwa and General Hull, lifting the device so it would be closer to them.
“You would be speaking with the Knight-Commander and First Rank Duchess, Jeong-Hwa and…”
“Commanding General of the Global Alliance Army, David Hull.”
Da’Nuhl hummed for a second from the other side of the device. “It’s a pleasure to meet you, and it’s good to be talking with people of such status.”
“So why did you send this… envoy… alone on a first contact mission, Commander?” Jeong-Hwa asked, trying to get past the pleasantries.
Da’Nuhl stayed silent for a while as he contemplated for a moment. “We would’ve rather instead send a team of support for this mission, but from what we know about humans—and about you—such a group of beings would’ve likely prompted you to open fire upon them on sight, so to avoid such a thing from happening, Regis et al volunteered himself as the most likely one to get to you alive and establish relations.”
Hearing that statement, Regis stood up straight and puffed out his chest as he carried a proud expression. “And this great one has achieved such a—”
“Yes, yes, we’re actually quite impressed with your performance,” Da’Nuhl interrupted Regis, who didn’t seem to lose his proud expression even when cut short.
“So what do you hope to get by getting in contact with us?” General Hull asked, ignoring Regis and looking straight at the device in his hands.
“It’s simple really,” Da’Nuhl said with a serious tone, “You are new to this world, and we would rather avoid any conflict between our people, since it seems like such a thing would be quite… devastating…”
“Devastating you say…” responded Jeong-Hwa with a thoughtful expression on her face. “Do you know about what happened on this site a while ago?”
There was silence from the device as Da’Nuhl took a couple of seconds to think. “Yes, we’ve had several survivors retell the events of that battle, with all of them claiming a very powerful magic detonated, destroying all armies nearby in the process.”
“Oh yes! This great one had heard about how many of our most powerful and greatest soldiers were completely decimated! This great one even heard that the explosion of that magic was so powerful, even the people from the closest towns were able to see its blinding light covering the horizon!” Regis excitedly followed up, nodding his head several times in the process.
“We suspect that such a thing was done by your people, and we would rather avoid having to face such a powerful thing again,” Da’Nuhl continued.
“I would agree with you, Commander,” General Hull said, placing one hand over the table that he and Jeong-Hwa had been standing next to. “We would rather get to know this world better as well.”
“How about a trade?” Da’Nuhl said, pausing for a second in case someone wanted to speak before he continued. “As a show of good will, we aid you in the exploration of our world and you allow Regis et al to get to know your people better as well.”
“Oh that would be great! That goddamn communication tower doesn’t work and we can’t contact the people we sent out to explore,” Jeong-Hwa said with frustration.
“A communication tower?” Da’Nuhl asked, his curiosity picket.
“It’s a supposed ‘high tech, top of the line’ tower specifically designed to work on desolate environments, but so far, not a peep from the thing,” Jeong-Hwa continued, seemingly venting her frustration on this conversation.
“Commander Han, I don’t think this is the right moment to be talking about this…” General Hull with an awkward expression as he looked at Regis, who seemed to be confused about what they were talking about.
“I think we can help with that,” Da’Nuhl suddenly said, making both Jeong-Hwa and General Hull look at the device on Regis’ hand. “We can’t be absolutely sure, but we can send a few of our comms team to have a look, they might be able to figure it out for you.”
General Hull shook his head. “I appreciate the gesture, however, allowing a foreign power—an unknown one—to tamper with our equipment would be a breach of the Corporation’s policies, and more importantly, a security risk that we can’t take in this place.”
“I agree with Commander Da'Nuhl's terms,” Jeong-Hwa said, making General Hull open his eyes wide as he turned to look at her.
“Commander! We can’t take that risk!” he exclaimed, taken aback.
Jeong-Hwa slammed the table, “Well I can! ‘cus those engineers sure haven’t gotten it done and I’m sure that the ‘Great’ Doctor Hobbs isn’t going to bother with walking his prideful ass over to fix it! So if these guys can get our communications with the Imperators up and running then I’ll take it!”
General Hull looked seriously at Jeong-Hwa, “Commander…”
“I’ll take full responsibility for whatever happens, and if anything wrong happens, we know who to aim our guns at,” she said as she glared over at Regis, who took a wary step back.
“It’s settled then!” Da’Nuhl joyfully said from the device, “I’ll be sending the team over and by tomorrow they should be there.”
“Very well, but I’m warning you, any funny business and I have no qualms in shooting you all down,” Jeong-Hwa said, shifting her glare over at the device.
A laugh escaped from the device, “Don’t you worry Knight-Commander, I’ll go over personally and make sure that everything goes perfect.”
“We shall see…” General Hull responded as he looked seriously at Jeong-Hwa, who only looked at the device.
“Should we expect more of… these goblins?” Jeong-Hwa asked, her anger subdued by now as her posture eased.
“Goblins? Oh, more that look like Regis et al. No, our team looks different, so I’d ask you not to fire on anything walking on two legs in your base’s direction,” Da’Nuhl said with a carefree tone.
“I’ll be looking forward to it,” Jeong-Hwa responded with a half smile towards the device.
“Likewise,” Da’Nuhl said amiably, not seeing the expression from the people in the room.
“Then this great one shall prepare the grandest and most incredible of—”
“I’ll see you later Regis et al,” Da’Nuhl said, interrupting Regis in the middle of his speech and quickly hanging up on the device, which had the blue light from the hole dim down.
Regis grumbled and murmured things to himself as he looked at the device with a disappointed expression, pouting slightly and then putting the device away in one his pant’s pockets, finally turning his attention back up to the group of people in the room.
“I hope you know what you’re doing, Commander,” General Hull said as he looked seriously at Jeong-Hwa.
Jeong-Hwa looked back at the General for a couple of seconds before turning to look at Regis, who looked expectantly at her as well. “I guess I have to make preparations for some guests,” she said as she turned to leave the room, stopping only at the entrance to look at the Knight Captain standing next to Regis. “Keep an eye out on… Regis.”
“Should I place him under arrest?” the captain asked as he looked at Regis as well.
Jeong-Hwa hummed, looking down at Regis for a second as his eyes went round. “Just keep him somewhere secure and make sure his basic needs are met.”
“Aye, aye, Commander,” the Captain responded with a Knight salute, turning then to Regis as Jeong-Hwa left the building and started shouting at people again.
General Hull sighed heavily before turning to look down at Regis. “I hope this goes well…”
