Authors Note: This chapter is long as hell. I was going to shorten it, but I couldn't be bothered to care. You should read this when you have time. Maybe get some food. Even I wouldn't read this crap all at once, and I wrote it. There's more than 5000 words here. I can't even count to 5000. Has any one here ever counted to 5000? Oh right. The story.
---------------------------------------------------------------
Null takes a deep breath and goes into the boss room. It's dark.
'Oh. This must be one of those scenes where it starts out dark, then when you walk in everything lights up, then the boss appears all dramatic like.'
Null walks further into the room. Parts of the ceiling collapse revealing sunlight. A huge level 74 Deathroll about 3 meters tall stomps out from a darkened corner of the room and roars. The name above it says Queen Deathroll.
“Called it.”
Since this Deathroll is just a huge version of the others Null fought, the librarian class gave an extra 6% damage. Since it's not 10%, there must be things that he doesn't know about her.
'Not like the 6% extra damage will really help against this thing.'
The queen slams her fists into the ground, rolls into a ball, and starts rolling in place faster and faster. She's not going anywhere.
'What is she doing?'
Null gets a bad feeling. Higher wisdom gives a person better intuition. Null jumps out the way even though the queen is still on the other side of the room. As he jumped, the queen, in the blink of an eye, slammed into the spot Null was just in. Null's mouth drops.
'I am so screwed. If that hits me even once I will die. I'm starting to regret not putting more points into dexterity.'
She starts to roll in place again.
“Dammit!”
Null starts running. The Deathroll once again slams into the place where Null was. She hits Null's hand and knocked out a quarter of his health.
'I need to think of something! My endurance is not going to last if this keeps up!'
The scene repeats a third time. The queen Deathroll unravels, tired.
Null thinks to himself. 'Okay. What I've learned so far. It seems it attacks the place I was at before it starts rolling up. It travels in a straight line. It takes approximately 2 seconds for it to charge up. It attacks 3 times continuously before it unravels because of fatigue. The next question is if that 3 time attack is consistent or if the number of times it attacks is random. Well while its resting I'll shoot some arrows at it.'
For figuring out Queen Deathroll's movements, extra 2% damage dealt to Queen Deathroll.
“Now is NOT THE TIME!”
He closes the window without reading it.
Null fires off multiple arrows in succession. As expected, the arrows didn't do much damage, especially with the 30% reduction thanks to his class, but the arrow damage wasn't what Null was aiming for. Attached to the arrows were the Night Crawlers. Because this place has patches of sunlight coming out, that only served to make the worms burrow in the Queen Deathroll faster.
Still she is far too powerful to be done in by a few measly night crawlers. The queen rested for about 6 seconds before she resumed her rolling skill. Null this time was prepared. Null climbed up a stalagmite further in the back of the room. The Queen might be powerful, but it can't bulldoze through tens of giant stalagmites at once. At the third rush, it smashed through the stalagmite Null was on and unraveled.
'So it is three times. Good.'
While Null was falling from the broken stalagmite, he fired off more night crawler arrows. He touched the ground and ran to another formation of stalagmites. This scene repeated itself. One night crawler the queen could ignore. Ten night crawlers? Hardly felt anything. Hundreds? Maybe she'll start getting uncomfortable. Thousands? Who knows? Null does not have that many arrows. All those night crawlers individually are nothing, but they kept gradually draining her health.
'Okay I'm doing good. I just have to keep this up.'
When the Queen Deathroll's health dropped to below half, it changed its tactic. Instead of charging, it bounced. It bounced high enough to slam into where Null was on a stalagmite.
'Oh damn.'
Null jumped down and the boss barely grazed him.
'Another close call.'
The queen wasn't done yet. Null looked up and saw that the queen was still bouncing toward him.
'Shit.'
Null jumped out of the way, but the queen still wasn't done. It bounced again. This time Null could do nothing. It bounced on him, then rolled to the side and unraveled. Null only had 27 health left.
'That hurt like hell. I'm glad this game only makes me feel 10% of the pain I would experience from real life.'
Null quickly took health potions to refill his health.
'Just one hit and it took off so much. Okay, I've learned something new. When a boss's health gets below half, it changes tactics. This boss's new tactic is to bounce instead of roll. I can handle that.'
Null had used the bosses' rest period to drink health potions instead of attack. He runs into a new stalagmite formation when he realizes something.
'I'm running out of stalagmites. I need to start conserving them. I thought that these would be enough at the beginning, but I underestimated this boss.'
Null takes out some food. He needs to keep his endurance up while running, and eating and drinking is the only way to do it. The boss bounces again. This time Null is out in the open. 'This bouncing ball is a lot easier to dodge than the rushing one. I just have to keep running as fast as I can.' Null then sees that the cool down for the bouncing technique is 4 seconds instead of 6.
'I have my work cut out for me.'
**************************************************
Null is almost out of arrows. Luckily, the night crawlers are doing their job. He just has to stay alive until the queen dies. After 10 minutes of running, Null is tired and decides to rest at the bottom of a stalagmite formation. It bounces through after about 9 bounces, but it got Null a little over a minute of rest.
Eventually, the Queen Deathroll's health hits less than 10% of health. It changes tactics again. It mixes and matches the rushing technique and bouncing technique.
'What a pain!'
Null has no choice but to use up the remaining stalagmite formations. After a while of this, Null uses up the last formation.
'Dammit, what do I do now?'
The Queen Deathroll is preparing to do a charging roll, just when it was about to charge, it bellows a dying roar. It falls over dead.
“Whew! Sometimes my luck isn't so bad.”
You have leveled up!
You have leveled up!
You have leveled up!
You have leveled up!
Null levels up four times, and puts his stat points equally into intelligence and wisdom. He slumps over and rests.
'Okay, whatever the hidden map was pointing to better be worth it.'
After a brief rest he sees what the boss had dropped.
'A fine sword, can't use it. 100 arrows, useful. 4 gold? Awesome. Is this all?'
Null gets dejected. 'Well, it is an E-ranked dungeon. I shouldn't be too surprised.'
He goes to find where the column is.
'Okay. Left column, left column, where could you be?'
He searches until he sees columns in the very back of the room.
'Okay, now I just need to get to the one on the left and... What the hell am I supposed to even do?'
He makes it to the left column, but there is nothing there.
'Wait. This has to do with the librarian class right? So why don't I try the information finder skill? Just have to think of the word librarian and use the skill.'
When he uses the skill, a pale blue glow is coming from a hole in the middle column. Null would have never noticed it if it wasn't for the skill. When he presses inside the hole, a compartment opens up. In there are 2 really old and moldy books.
'Eeeeew. Do I have to touch that with my hands?'
When he picks them up with his gloves on, he thinks they could break apart any second. Null can't even open the book without damaging it.
'Well I think its pretty obvious what I'm supposed to do here.'
“Book Repair.”
“Book Repair.”
....
He keeps using the skill until the book becomes as good as new. A vision then hits Null's senses.
Null gets teleported into a new place. He looks around. It looks like he's been transported into a log cabin. There is a person here, and it looks like he's metalworking something.
'He must be a blacksmith.'
Right now, Null is confused, so he goes to the man for answers.
“Excuse me.”
The person ignores him. Null realizes that he has to be difficult with this NPC.
“Hey. I'm talking to you.”
He tries to grab the man's collar, but his hand slips right through.
'Wait. Did I die? No, all I did was use the book repair skill. This must be a flashback. Well, might as well see what this is about. I hope he doesn't start doing anything too weird thinking that he's by himself.'
Null watches the man. After he was done metalworking, he started to mix different herbs together.
'Not only is this man a blacksmith, but he's also an alchemist? Interesting. That's a rare combination.'
He did things that amazed Null. By touching metal, he shape shifted it into many designs. He transmuted different minerals into other minerals. Null had never even heard of that. What astonished Null the most was when he was done. A flying robot rose from the table. It looked like a drone from Null's world.
Null gets an epiphany. “Wait! This might have something to do with the missing 2 centuries! This might complete the A rank mission I have, but I highly doubt it would be this easy.”
The man talks to the robot. “Deliver my message. This is of utmost importance!”
The robot nods, then the man makes a circle with weird designs and holds it towards the robot. It disappears.
Null is even more astonished. “Did he just use long ranged teleportation by himself, and so quickly? I thought you needed a group of people to perform that, and it takes a while to charge. Who is this guy?”
The man sighs. “Finally. It is done.”
Just when the man was about to slump on the floor, the door explodes. The debris heads towards Null, but it just phases through him as if he were a ghost. The man blocked the debris with a mana shield.
'Mana shield? So he's a mage as well? How many classes does this man have?'
A group of people that look like really high leveled knights and mages come in. They all make room for someone else. That person comes in intimidating and like a boss.
Null thinks, 'Huge red cloak with black skull on it, powerful red aura swirling around him, powerful henchmen who fear him. 50 bucks this guy is the final boss I might have to fight if I continue this.'
The cloaked man speaks. “Do you have any idea how hard it is to find you?”
“Heh. Thanks, I try. How do you like the present I gave you? Now you only have a fraction of your power.”
The cloaked man says,“The gods were clear. They want you and anyone who follows you dead, but I'll make your death quick and painless if you decide to cure me of the condition you set on me, and also tell me where the rest of your resistance is.”
The man spits on him. “Go the hell.”
“Blame your own folly for going against the gods.”
The cloaked man raises his hand, and his henchmen rushed to attack the man. The man did something. Null doesn't know what he did, but for some reason, everyone just exploded.
Null's eyes opened wide. 'Wha? What the hell was that!?'
The cloaked man then did something Null will never forget. With his aura, he blew apart the house into tiny splinters.
Null was thinking, 'Since when the hell did this turn into Dragonball Z?'
The man had teleported and had fired off energy balls in a Dragonball Z fashion at the cloaked man. He then guided it towards the cloaked man like a heat seeking missile.
'Someone's getting sued.' Null thought.
The man then threw out some high tech gizmos that locked on to the cloaked man.
Null thought, 'This is so amazing! Look at that tech! It's so beautiful!'
The red cloaked man destroyed the tech with a wave of his hand, then made a sword by gathering the debris and metal from the ground and compressing it.
Null who was spectating in his mind was thinking, 'Oh, and the cloaked man has some magneto in him too!'
He levitated into the air and then channeled fire energy through the sword. When he swung the sword, everything miles in front of him was incinerated. The man had teleported behind the cloaked man and made a spear energy construct and attempted to stab him with it. It looks like the man was standing on a circle with the weird design on it. The cloaked man grabs the spear with his hand.
The man smirks. “Hmph. It looks like you have weakened a lot more than I thought.”
Null was thinking, 'He's green lantern too? They can fly? I wish I had some popcorn. This is too awesome. And that power is when the cloaked man is weakened? I'm definitely not getting involved with him. I already vowed not to make waves. My name is Null, and I will leave everything as I found it, so if I ever get a mission to have to deal with that, I'll say fuck you to all the things.'
The cloaked man crushes the energy construct with his hand. The man attempts to punch the cloaked man. His arm from the elbow up starts glowing. The cloaked man blocks with his sword, but it makes a shock wave on the sides of the sword that causes a big blast around the cloaked man.
Null, again astonished, thinks, 'What the hell was that? He's also part monk? What the hell is his class!? I really want to know!'
The cloaked man raises his hand, and a torrent of wind blows the man away. He conjures up a thunderstorm and gathers the lightning in one place in the clouds striking it down at the man.
Null thinks, 'He also has wind and lightning? Is that cloaked man captain planet?'
He strikes the lightning at the man. The man instantly conjures up another one of his circles which absorbs the lightning. The circle disappears.
Null thinks, 'Can you pick up those circles at a store? They seem to do everything. I'll call them Macgyver circles. No one will get these references.'
The cloaked man then channeled a torrent of water through his sword. He swung it and a title wave surged towards the other man.
Null thought, 'How many elements does this guy have? Ptah. Please nerf.'
The man made one of those weird circles and it grew until it was 10 times bigger than him. The circle then glowed and sucked up all the water like a black hole.
Null thinks, 'My god. That thing sucks more than your mother. Why doesn't he just teleport behind the tidal wave?'
That last technique the man did looks like it shaved all the rest of his mana.
He collapsed on the ground and said, “I did my job.”
The flashback ends.
Null ended up back in the cave. He was so excited he started jumping up and down.
“Holy shit! I hope my pod recorded that, because I will be rewatching that scene for the next year! Oh yeah, so what's written in this book?”
Null reads through it. 'It's just some blacksmith and alchemy stuff. I can't use that. There's also a world map with a bunch of points on it. Oh well. I'll figure that out later.'
You have obtained the Blacksmith subclass and Alchemy subclass. You have now completed the librarian class. For completing it, +15 to all stats, +25 to intelligence, +25 to wisdom, +55 to knowledge.

“...What the hell just happened? I just got hit with a bunch of all these things. I don't know what's going on. What? Is this real life? Where am I?”
Null gets over his shock and then opens up his skill list.

'Well okay, now I have a buttload of skills to train. Well, that solves the mystery of what class that guy in the flashback had. Oh and there's one more book I need to get. I have to admit. If you told me the librarian class could shoot Kamehamehas and Hadokens, first I'd tell you to stop talking to me, then I would be surprised.'
Null gets the book and does multiple book repairs like the first book he got. It was then made good as new. Before he reads the other book, Null thinks to himself, 'The person who hid these books was really clever. First, he put it in a column and made sure that only those with the librarian class at level 5 mastery or above would be able to find it. Second, he made sure that even if someone found it by accident, the books would be too illegible for anyone to read. The only way to repair these books is with the Book Repair skill which is, to my knowledge, only available to librarians.'
Null opened the book. 'Hmm... No flashback this time I guess.'
He then read the cover.
'Essence of Mana. What? The second prize is such a worthless book?'
Aside from the camping skill, and Light Orb skill for seeing in dark places, Essence of Mana is one of the most common skills that a person can have. In fact, you can say everyone above level 120 definitely has the skill. It's also incredibly easy to get. All you do is pay 50 gold to a mage guild and they will automatically unlock the skill for you.
What it does is that it decreases the amount of mana that you spend on techniques by 1%. That's all it does. It's also notoriously difficult to level up. Some people at the start of the game tried leveling it up, but no matter what they did, it would fail.
A few people did manage to level it up. They spent every waking moment trying to level it up. All it did when it leveled up to beginner level 2 was add a percent of the decrease of what mana you could spend, and you could move mana inside your body somewhat. They tried pouring the mana into the fist to see if it would result in a super punch. It did nothing.
They then tried pouring it into weapons. It gave the same result, nothing. Those people spent every waking moment for a year trying to find ways to level up the skill. They even skipped hunting and gaining proficiency to do this, and could no longer keep up with their peers in leveling. After that, very few tried to level it up, and the few that did all showed the same results.
'Well I guess not having to spend 50 gold later on is fine I guess.'
He then read the rest of the book.
'Mana is the foundation of everything in this world. It permeates everywhere, in every rock, in every living thing, and even in empty space. In this world, there is no such thing as a place with no mana.
Mana is so versatile. It can convert to different elements, it can be used to strengthen warriors techniques, and can also be used to even make people invisible. How is mana able to do so many incredible things? I set out to see how mana interacts with everything. The first thing I did is to see how mana flows in everyone.
It may not seem like a big deal to see how mana flows in everyone, but it absolutely is. I looked at the different professions. First, the warriors. I noticed that mana flows more rapidly in them than in everyone else. The higher level the warrior, the faster the mana flowed through them. Of course, it wasn't universal, but it was consistent with my observations. Second, I observed the mages. Their mana doesn't flow as fast as the warriors, but the amount they contain is by far the most. Third, I observed the archers. Their mana flow is weird. It's like the mana is always vibrating in an energized state.
I had a hypothesis, so I set it up to see if I was right. I then looked at the production classes, classes who don't fit into a neat little box of strength and speed. What I observed confirmed my hypothesis. The way the mana flows doesn't depend on your class. It depends on which stats you put it into. The god most high, the creator of everything, Ptah, chose to put our capabilities into numbers. We can increase these numbers by defeating other opponents and putting it into which stat you want. I discovered that the stat point system directly controls the mana. I looked at various people and here are my findings:
Strength: The higher this stat, the more rapidly mana flows.
Dexterity: The higher this stat, the more mana vibrates inside the body.
Intelligence: The higher this stat, the more amount of mana your body can contain.
Wisdom: The higher this stat, the stronger your skills become at the same mana cost.
Vitality: The higher this stat, the more the mana fuses with your body and enhances it. This one is especially amazing as it appears this one requires by far more mana than the rest of them.
Charisma: The higher this stat, the more the mana given off by you gives a serene calming effect that makes one like you more and more.
Luck: The one that interested and frustrated me the most. It affects the laws of probability, and I'm still not sure how mana ties into it.
Of course, there are other stats which makes mana do other different things, but these base stats are what I focused on. I then looked at the different professions to find if there was a mechanism to how mana flows. I developed this Essence of Mana skill to the degree where I could see the intricacies of mana at work inside the human body. Mana flows like blood inside the human body. It even has an organ-like place in which mana is concentrated. It's not a physical thing what you can grab, but its there.
I call this thing the mana heart. It's located in the center of the chest. It appears all living things contain this mana heart, even plants. Another thing that interested me is that when I developed my essence of mana skill even further, I could see no difference between the living things and non living things. Living things are pretty much balls of mana compressed. I find this all so fascinating.
My final project was how mana was able to convert into elements, but I was unable to finish that research. I upset too many people. I hope you can continue my research in mana.'
Null had finished reading it.
He was pretty surprised. 'The way this world works is simply amazing. I used to think that the librarian class was useless because it was weak, but I changed my mind. I wouldn't have learned about this if I was a monk, and the amount of skills that I have will keep me from being bored when I'm alone.'
A message then pops up.
Would you like to learn Essence of Mana?
"Of course." Null learns the skill.
Essense of ManaSkill typePassiveSkill ProficiencyBeginner level 1Decrease mana cost of techniques by 1%.
'I should probably go to that librarian lady and tell her what I found.'
Null goes back to town. He heads for the librarian and tells her everything. “...and that concludes everything that I saw. The visuals were pretty amazing.”
The librarian was once again impressed with David. “Wow. You- You are the first foreigner to complete the librarian class!”
“Neat. Anyway I need a favor.”
“What?”
“The person who left the book on mana of essence told me about how mana works, but in order to work on it, I need to spend a lot of time on it. Time that I won't have unless I focus all my attention.”
“Right. Where are you going with this?”
“Can I mooch off you and you give me free food?”
“Normally I would say no, but since this is something left by our predecessor, I'll make an exception. You can eat in the cafeteria for free, but as soon as you learned Essence of Mana to a proficient level, we'll cut you off.”
“That's fine. It's the least you can do for throwing an A rank at me.”
“Uuuu.”
After the librarian gives him some food, Null goes deep into a forest and tries to finds a place where no one will disturb him. He goes to the top of a tall tree.
'Okay here no one will disturb me. I'm miles away from town and I don't see a single animal in the distance. I'm tired. I should log off.'
After David goes to sleep, it's time for school. A week has passed in real time while David was in the dungeon. Today is the day he'll be getting his tests back. He's in a good mood.
'That annoying girl will finally leave me alone.'
Advanced Chemistry was the first class that he had with her. The teacher passed out the tests. As soon as class was over, Cecile ran over to David before he could even start packing. She was shaking.
“Show me what you have! Tell me! Tell me! Tell me! Tell me!”
David tilted his head in confusion and handed her his test.
She looked at the score.
“Wha?”
She then looks at which questions David had wrong. At first she looked infuriated for some reason, but then she smiled and said, “Ha! I finally beat you! I won!”
“Yes, yes. You're the best. So now you can finally-”
“Ha! You suck and I won! Ha, stupid!”
“Right. So with this you can-”
“I won and you lost!”
She then sticks her tongue out and started pointing at David really close to his face without touching him.
“You lost to meeeeee!”
“Are you going to sto-”
“Loser who's dumber than me!”
David just decides to leave.
The next class they had together was Advanced Physics. The same scene repeated.
“Hey David, guess who's dumber than me. Well since you're not smart enough to figure it out on your own, I'll tell you. It's you! You're dumber than me!”
David just decides to ignore her. 'She's just excited right now. She'll get it out of her system.'
“So stupid! How could you be so stupid!?” she tells David.
In the Advanced Pre-Calculus class the same thing happened.
“Let's put this in a way you can understand. Yooooooou are duuuuuumbeeeeeer than meeeeeeeeee.”
David was pretty unhappy that day.
'She is so annoying. Well now that she knows that she's better than me, she has no reason to bother me anymore.'
The next day, he went to his Advanced Chemistry class. His desk was filled with notes telling him how dumb he is. In his Advanced Physics class, there was a huge drawing of dickbutt on his desk with the phrase “I R DUMB!” written under it.
'The drawing may be asinine, but it's still a pretty good drawing.' David admits.
His Pre-Calculus had a special needs helmet, elbow guards, and knee guards on his desk. This kept continuing and escalating each day. She even managed to get a special needs sign one day. From then on, David made a vow.
'Never again. You will never ever again beat me in a test. I hope you enjoyed your little festival, because you will never enjoy it again. My precious solitude. You ruined it you annoying bitch!'
--------------------------------------------------------
Author's Note: Congrats. You made through my unnecessarily long chapter. I have a new idea for a story and I want your opinion on it. It's about a boy who gets hit by a truck, and doesn't reincarnate. He stays dead. The End.
Or how about a truck that gets hit by a boy and gets destroyed?
