Ark found no difference in the speech of Coscos. In his previous life too, it had said the same thing. It was a fact that Coscos couldn’t lie. What they could do was omit some truth here and there. Who would question it anyway? Despite its condescending tone, most people would think that getting their hands on a guardian card was the answer to all their problems. There were two problems with that. The first was that they were not wholly in the Tower anyway, so getting guardian cards would be a big deal.
The second thing was that the Coscos forgot to mention the fact that getting Dungeon cards from the Gods personally was next to impossible. There were two ways of gaining guardian cards. The first, a God takes a certain liking to you and gives you one. The second way was a bit more complicated. There were hidden dungeons in the tower where the legacy of the guardians was stored away. Getting to them was the easy part. The tough part was coming out alive.
Most people in the scenario would probably choose combat card slots over any other slot. After all, the more combat cards they had, the better their chances of survival. Ark in his past life was the same. He had selected 4 utility card slots, 11 combat card slots, 3 story cards, and 3 Guardian cards. In this life too, Ark had the same kind of planning. This was going to be the most important decision of his life.
Gathering the supplies for the first scenario had not taken a lot of time. But the planning portion had. It was inevitable that the status page would open up before the second scenario. Ark thought long and hard about the consequences of each of his choices. He had fared better with his cards in his previous life too, perhaps it would be prudent of him to choose anything else. If he did not like his cards, then he could discard them or remake them in the forge but the card slots were permanent. Once you got them, there was no way you could change it.
Ark had finally come to a decision. In his past life, Ark was a splendid swordsman, one who had fought with Gods and came out on top. It was all because of his combat cards. His many slots allowed him the versatility which perfected his sword style. He had different options for different types of opponents. His choices were obvious from the get-go.
[You have selected your Card Deck]
[10 Utility] [5 Combat] [5 Story] [1 Guardian]
Ark looked at his choices one more time before confirming them with nary a thought. It was true that he had a lot of slots in combat in his previous life but Ark had also realized that as time went on and he climbed up the tower, his skills became more specialized. His swordsmanship style revolved around only a few cards while he neglected the use of his other ones. This was his ideal choice. 5 cards for Combat was more than enough for him.
When Ark was planning for this possibility, he was only going to select three but five seemed like the better choice to him. He would rather be safe than be sorry for the rest of his life. He didn’t know what he might need in a pinch whenever he was in trouble. Even though Coscos said that Utility cards were for ease of life, Ark knew their potential. It was going to help him a lot when he went up to the first floor and could buy some decent cards. He had more than enough coins for them after all.
Ark had no choice but to select 5 story cards. For the future he was planning, he would need every single of them. He already had one story card, which was exciting in itself. He would probably see it after the Coscos opened up the interface. Ark somewhat felt nostalgic about his three guardian cards though. He had used one of them the most. It was left by the Sword Saint who had died protecting the civilians. This time, Ark would make sure that he did not have to get his legacy. Ark vowed to himself. No matter, what he did, he would save the Sword Saint.
“Humans! You are fast learners, aren’t you! That is fantastic. Now that all the pesky explanations are done, I can open up your status page. Now I am free. Finally! And now you humans can focus on surviving! Hah Hah Hah”
The tale has been stolen; if detected on Amazon, report the violation.
“Well, then you humans! For the last time, open your status screen”
“Status” Ark muttered softly
[You have opened up your status]
[Calculations ongoing…]
[You are now level 15]
[Calculating Card slots…]
[You have one Story card]
[Your Strength has increased by 13]
[Your Agility has increased by 7]
[Your Constitution has been increased by 4]
[Your Perception has increased by 5]
[Your Arkana has increased by 1]
[You have 10 unallocated stat points]
Ark had leveled up 15 times and his attributes had increased by a total of 30. Ark even had 10 unallocated stat points. He decided to dump all of them into Arkana. As a warrior, his four stats would naturally increase at random when he leveled up. It was possible for Arkana to level up as well but it had a very low chance of triggering.
Unallocated stat points were like a luxury in that regard. It was only possible to obtain them through level ups or achievements. Speaking of which, his unallocated stat points from the achievements should come up right now.
[For your Legendary Feat: You obtain 10 unallocated stat points]
[For your Impossible Feat: You obtain 5 unallocated stat points]
[For your Fabled Feat: You obtain 15 unallocated stat points]
The number of unallocated stat points Ark had received was mind-boggling. Common achievements gave out 1, uncommon 3, rare 5, epic 7, legendary 10, fabled 15, narrative 20, and mythical 30. Ark was slightly disappointed that his impossible feat had only given him as much as a rare feat would give him but he also knew that for impossible feats, it was a luck of the draw. The impossible feat was more akin to an epic feat but Ark was satisfied with what he had.
With his unallocated stat points combined, Ark had the stat points of a level 35 despite being a level 15. Ark decided to put all his stat points into Arkana. This way, he would have a chance to clear the Second scenario. The second scenario would not be as tougher as the first scenario but still, Ark did not want to clear it the conventional way. For saving humanity, he needed all the buffs he could get. Ark’s overall stat distribution after everything was done looked something like a broken clock. His Arkana was way overpowered. Ark opened up his full status page for the first time to see what had changed.
[Strength] [Agility] [Constitution] [Perception] [Arkana] 24 21 16 17 55
[Utility] [10 Slots] [Combat] [5 Slots] [Story] [5 Slots] [Guardian] [1 Slot] NO CARDS NO CARDS 1 CARD NO CARDS
Ark was just about to click on his story card to check what it was but just as he was about to do so, Coscos spoke up again. This time, its baritone voice had a hint of mischief.
“Hoh Hoh Humans! The Time has come. The second Scenario is about to begin in 5 minutes. Survive if you can!”
