Chapter 2: Welcome to the AMSB High School—the school of dreams.

September, the school start date, as me and Dan wait idly for the train to arrive at the train station in the autumn wind, which is colder than usual, Dan was shivering and shaking violently. There were also a lot of people my age wearing the same high school uniform as me as well as frustrated salary workers, who looked like the type to be mistakenly accused of groping someone if they were on a train. There was also an unsteady elderly woman in front of me who looked like she was going to fall over and break like Lego from these icy winds. In my opinion, the weather was fine today—not a single cloud in sight, and the warm sun caressing my skin felt nice. It was slightly refreshing that I nearly fell asleep standing straight up.

However, my minute respite was promptly halted.

“Sir, please, can you stop staring at me?”

My eyes, which were initially shut, shot right open. What? Could this person be angry at me? But my eyes were shut, but I realised that it was someone behind me being scolded at.

A slender, androgynous young man of similar height to me, with pale skin and large expressive eyes so blue that they can be compared to the colour of copper sulphate. Long black hair with both of his ears pierced, one simple stud worn on his right ear, while on his left ear is a pierced golden hourglass-shaped earring with a capsule within it. With also a dwarf next to him, he is short and stocky, with a long white beard and piercing emerald, green eyes.

The boy stared back at him. “Where is the rest of you?” in a harsh tone as if he were a grumpy old man, which caused the dwarf to get angry, as that was a sign of the worst disrespect in their culture, and he just did it without any comprehension of what he just said. The dwarf stood up from the bench and kicked his leg so hard that he fell instantly to the floor, wailing in pain and questioning why the dwarves kicked him in the first place all while the train arrived and me and Dan got on to it.

As me and Dan got into our seats, the train violently shook side to side and gave a loud horn, indicating the train had started again. While I looked idly out my window, watching the city’s scenery slowly changing while the train picked up more and more passengers.

The train rumbled to a stop, its doors hissing open. A pregnant woman, her face etched with fatigue, boarded with her young child. As she struggled to find a seat, a small argument erupted between her and the child. The woman's discomfort was evident, and the tension in the air was palpable.

A young girl, noticing the woman's plight, turned to a young man seated nearby. "Excuse me," she asked politely, "would you mind giving your seat to the lady? She looks quite tired."

The young man smirked. "Why should I?" he replied. "There's no law that says I have to give up my seat. Besides, it's all just a bit of pregnantist nonsense."

The young girl was taken aback by his response. She couldn't believe that he would be so selfish and dismissive. She turned back to the pregnant woman, feeling a sense of disappointment.

The woman sighed and thanked the young girl for her offer. She stood for the rest of the bus ride, her discomfort growing with each passing moment.

A few other passengers on the train also began to murmur their disapproval of the young man's behaviour. "Why don't you give up your seat?" one woman said. "She's pregnant, for goodness’s sake!" Another passenger added, "It's the least you could do."

The young girl, feeling a sense of responsibility, turned to the other passengers on the train. "Excuse me," she said. "I know this is a lot to ask, but would anyone be willing to give up their seat to the pregnant woman? She's clearly uncomfortable, and it would be a kind gesture."

The train continued its journey, the tension in the air palpable. No one dared to offer their seat to the pregnant woman, each lost in their own thoughts. The woman stood, her discomfort growing with each passing moment.

Even though me and Dan are not in a priority seat like him, I was near the pregnant woman. I wondered if I raised my hand a little and gave up my seat, then this whole issue would be over. However, like everyone else who is hesitating, I didn’t want to move, as even though everyone here is disagreeing with him outright deep within, they agree themselves as they don’t want to be seen as a selfish person.

Just as the train was about to reach its stop, two high school students sitting at the back of the train stood up. "Here, you can have my seat," one of them said, offering his seat to the pregnant woman. The other student nodded in agreement.

The woman was overwhelmed with gratitude. She thanked the students profusely and sat down, relieved to finally be able to rest.

Dan and Luck watched all of this unfold and looked at the twin girls in front of them, who looked unfazed by what had just unfolded and carried on reading their book that was in their hands.

As the train pulled up to our stop, Dan and I shuffled off, with all the other students on board. The crisp autumn air hit us as we stepped onto the sidewalk, a stark contrast to the stuffy atmosphere inside the train.

"Do you think he made a good point?" Dan muttered, shaking his head. "I don't think so."

I shrugged, my mind elsewhere. "People are complicated," I replied, my voice flat. "Who knows what his story is?"

Dan shot me a sideways glance. "Are you a philospher?"

“Same can be said about you, you know.”

My eyes fixed on the looming structure ahead of us. AMSE High School, the supposed "school of dreams." Its imposing facade seemed to mock that very notion.

A long time ago, the heroes who locked away the sinful witches created a school called the Advanced Magic, Sword, and Education School with the main purpose of creating future leaders and top-tier swordsmen and magicians that will go down in history. This would be the school I was forced into by that man.

As we approached the gates with our suitcases, I noticed the twin girls from the bus walking a few paces ahead of us. They stop and turn around.

“You two, why were you looking at us?”

Dan exclaimed, “We were just interested in you all; well, I mean, you two didn't even consider giving up your seat to the pregnant woman, were you?”

The girl on the left with 2 red ribbons in her hair narrowed her eyes on Dan while he spoke.

"That's right, I didn’t consider giving it up; is there something wrong with that?”

“Oh no, not at all; we didn't intend on giving up our seat as well.” I spoke.

The girl on the right with one white ribbon in her hair replied, “Don't make it sound like we have something in common; we stayed silent because it was a matter of principle.”

Both at the same time, Luck and Dan thought in their heads, Right, that makes them ever worse than us.

“If that's all, then goodbye,” then the two turn around and walk away in the same direction as Dan and Luck.
