Part #016: A Whispering Deaf

Though there was to be a sort of idle silence in the room, Filius could feel the mounting pressure build.

He began to fidget in place as he stood there before a mahogany desk where a sharply dressed old man sat, eyeing him with serious tension.

"Filius Agni." The old man spoke with a slow, bass-boosted, tone. "We've been watching you since you first made planetfall. We were wondering when a Methuselah was going to grace our world, and lo and behold here you stand before me. A black flame on a dark night."

Filius was confused. What was this man even going on about? Black flame? Planetfall? And that damned noun again, Methuselah. What does that even mean!?

"That aside, you might be wondering why you're here. To put it simply, you're a danger to this world.. A force that cannot be quelled through any ordinary means.. I'm sure you've witnessed it.."

Stolen novel; please report.

Filius thinks back to the magic test in the guild, and how the mirrors cracked and the orb almost exploded due to an immense surge of power that came from him or when he killed those kids or that runewolf. But upon returning to reality, he looked at his hands. He knew he was a danger to this world, but he just couldn't fathom the scope at which his danger covered.

"A Methuselah," he pauses for a moment seeing the boy contemplating his power, "Is a being of necromantic origins. You see, they are not like your traditional Lich. Unlike a Lich they do not need to rely a phylactery. They absorb the souls into themselves, and gain power from that. And since these...overliches...are so powerful only one can be created in any given era.. Which is where you come in.. I do not know who brought you here, or why they did so, but your existence means that this era is ending and a new one is just beginning."

"So...I...am...a...monster?"

The old man nods, "You're more than a lowly monster.. You're a mortal god.."
