Nave had gained the habit of reading at a very young age, and he loved it.

He had learned to speed read, especially when he was reading something he found boring, at a young age. He was happy that he did that because after the first book, the rest were pretty dull. They had a lot of interesting information, but Nave just couldn't sit through it without forcing himself to.

Over the next few days, nothing much happened.

Ciara had Nave read most of the bookshelf, excluding a few books.

She claimed that "you're not ready for it."

Nave didn't complain; it was less boring books for him to read.

He also renegotiated the security deal with Rahesh with some help from Ciara.

It was changed to include some of the details of their personal agreement and iron out details having to do with the employees. Through this, he gained some information on what was going down between the powerhouses of the town.

It seemed like the gangs were rearing up to fight something, something big. They were searching for manpower and were approaching people with various deals to gain more members, even if they were temporary.

The deal having to do with the employees related heavily to their consent and safety. Even though Nave pretty much owned these people and if he wanted to could just fire them, leaving them basically no choice but to look to the local gangs, he didn't want that for them.

He negotiated on their behalf to give them the choice to join the seemingly inevitable war.

The deal boiled down to alerting the workers of the mine a few days beforehand to an opportunity to make extra cash. They could join the gang as temporary members and participate in the battle for a considerable amount of money. Nave made sure that the money was good for them, and whatever health-related costs they would potentially have afterward were also covered. It was completely up to the workers to join, and they would have a few days to make up their minds.

Nave also realized that this was an opportunity to give the workers some more cash.

Ciara and Rahesh had hinted that the mayor would be involved in whatever was taking place, so he wouldn't be able to pressure Nave about certain things. So he used these days to randomly give bonuses to the employees.

Rahesh had also weirdly enough asked when the trucks usually arrived, and he seemed glad, but Nave just chalked it up to a weird question. Rahesh usually left the mine right before they arrived.

The mine made so much profit that it affected nothing, and it really helped the workers and would continue to help them in the future since the next few weeks would probably be pretty difficult with the huge gang war taking place.

Even if it wasn't the most businessmanly decision, it was worth it to see how positively it affected the workers.

He also delegated some responsibilities to Darnell and even a few to his boys to help them out.

He was having a very good time managing the mine, was learning a lot, and, as a result, was in a great mood.

Nave finished reading all the books that Ciara had assigned to him and went to her laboratory to alert her.

"Done."

Ciara raised a brow.

"That was quick."

"What can I say? I finish quickly."

Ciara snorted.

"Don't say that to ladies in the future."

Nave didn't know what she meant but decided to take note of it anyway.

Ciara looked at the stack and gathered an idea.

"Since you wanna learn magical craftsmanship, I'll give you a taste of academia."

She grabbed a few pieces of paper she had lying around and a pencil and put together a list of open-ended questions that he should be able to answer using information from the books.

Nave received the paper and pencil and went to a different table to answer the questions.

He read and finished them quickly.

Unauthorized duplication: this narrative has been taken without consent. Report sightings.

Ciara looked at the finished test.

"Not bad."

"How many did I get wrong?"

"You're answers are solid and detailed. You got none of them wrong. Well done. If you're able to process information that quickly, then you might do well in whichever school you choose to go to."

Nave was satisfied with this and somewhat looked forward to learning more, even if the books were boring.

"What's next?"

"We'll start with something simple."

Just as she was about to continue, a loud noise emanated from her pocket.

"Ugh."

She pulled out a device that looked like a more advanced version of the device Nave used to call Enforcer Thomas when he killed Harry.

Thinking about him killing someone made his heart hurt a little bit, but his mind was quickly taken off of it.

"Apparently Bartholomew has something to tell me, and it can't wait. Come on, let's go."

They reached an area where the three men were waiting for the both of them. Rahesh was standing with them.

"What's up?" Ciara asked.

Bartholomew stepped forward.

"Rahesh demanded to see the boy immediately. I couldn't find him, so I assumed you were with him."

"What's going on, Rahesh?" Nave inquired.

"Someone wants to meet you."

Nave was curious.

"They couldn't book an appointment." He said it jokingly.

Rahesh did not smile or laugh.

"This person is above appointments, and it is imperative that you come to the desired location at once."

Nave was upset that his lesson was interrupted before it even began, but if Rahesh was being even more serious than he usually was, then it had to be important.

"Lead the way."

Nave walked away as he heard Ciara complaining to Bartholomew about wasting time. They walked pretty far away from where they were.

'I'm tired of walking; I need a horse or one of those vehicle thingies.'

They arrived at an abandoned building with not a soul nearby. Rahesh walked inside and pointed down toward a dark staircase.

Nave wondered what type of person would sit in a building like this, but he wasn't too nervous. He tapped his pocket to make sure his trusty blade was with him just in case.

He went down the stairs and was met with a dark door with a brown handle. He twisted and walked into a dimly lit room with a man sitting at a desk, organizing papers.

He was sitting down, so Nave couldn't tell how tall he was, but he was sure the man was taller than him. He had short, pitch-black hair and skin even paler than Nave's. Striking black eyes and a sharp jaw.

Neither of them said a word, and Nave stood near the doorway for a second, receiving no instructions from the man who didn't even acknowledge his existence. After contemplating it for a second, he put on his big boy pants and took a seat across from the man on the other side of the desk.

As soon as his buttocks made contact with the chair, the man's neck snapped toward Nave. The immediate area around the man seemed to darken. It seemed as if light was afraid of him.

His eyes turned completely black as he analyzed all of the parts of Nave he could see.

"Interesting."

Nave sat and watched the man.

"Use your abilities." The man demanded.

Nave considered not listening, but the man's voice had an affect, as if no one in his life had ever told him no. He was a natural-born leader. Plus, he already knew Nave had magical abilities, so what harm could it bring?

Nave lifted his hand, and above it appeared a black, opaque box. He used a familiar image because it would take more effort to construct an unfamiliar one.

The man's head tilted curiously.

"So interesting."

He looked at the image in its small entirety. He grabbed a pencil off his desk and threw it through the illusion. It fazed through, causing a slight disturbance before it stabilized again with a little effort from Nave.

"Do you know what you have there, Nave?"

"No, sir," Nave responded.

He would usually just nod his head, but something told him he should show this man as much respect as possible.

"You have a very rare form of magic, even rarer than my rare magic."

Nave was curious as to what his magic was exactly, but withheld from asking the man such a question.

There was silence as the man kept staring at the image.

Nave could feel his pitiful pyr reserves draining and asked a question.

"Can I inquire about the purpose of this meeting..." He then added, "Sir."

The man answered without taking his eyes off the illusion.

"As you've probably been informed of, we need your help."

"Yes, sir, I'm aware."

"Good, but you probably haven't been informed of the fact that I need your help."

Nave was a little shocked. He was almost positive that this man had a lot of power. He had no idea what he personally could need from him.

The man finally looked away from the image and looked deeply into Nave's eyes.

"I need you to assassinate the mayor."
